Awesome. I'm still on the fence, but please let us know how it is when it comes.
Thanks for the recommendation, Ru!
Whiplash (armored)— Got this cool figure in time for Christmas from Aliexpress. It’s a beautiful figure in terms of the detailed armored sculpt and the paint work, which looks nice and metallic. The scale is perfect as well. The articulation is very limited—basically only the shoulders are very functional. Whiplash has limited elbows and even more limited hips, knees, and ankles due to the armor plating on the figure. Overall, it looks awesome in a vanilla pose and fills a major gap in the collection. I am very happy with this for the cheap price. But I it does leave me wanting a Hasbro version even more because I can see that a figure like this with functional articulation would be one of my favorite figures in the collection.
@akatsuki Awesome! I still haven't ordered one but your pics are REALLY swaying, thank you.
Anyone who wants that Whiplash but doesn't trust aliexpress yet feels like spending more money, I found it at Amazon:

That link may not be working, but search on Amazon for "

Another way they could fill the MCU void this year (if they'd planned ahead of course) is not just some D+ figures like Echo, but also some Netflix figures. Daredevil and the rest are now incorporated into the "MCU Timeline Order" list on D+, so I take that as pretty official. Most of them can be repaints of course, or even some kitbashes if need be. Use that Fist Ninja head and hood for the hooded and masked Iron Fist? Luke, Jessica, Punisher, and Colleen repaints, Daredevil with new head and limbs please? In mustard even? Then throw us a bone and kitbash-with-new-head a Misty Knight. Or a Purple Man with the beloved suit body. Do a BAF of Elektra with her final Defenders costume and, damnit.... I'll probably get the wave.
I turned S1 of Daredevil on this afternoon while figuring and remembered how I'd still like a figure of Daredevil's S1 black outfit. AoU Quicksilver is pretty close for the body, but I know the second I paint it they'll finally announce one.
Has anyone snipped off the NWH Matt's glasses to see how the Charlie Cox likeness is? I don't really want to potentially ruin the figure to try.
I sold my Defenders set a couple years back and wouldn't you know it, came to regret it later. I've since been able to get Jessica Jones and Netflix Punisher back, but I'd still love the rest. I'm sure a new Daredevil is a given, whether from She-Hulk, Echo, or Born Again, but that's a ways off yet. The others would be great too, and like Ru said, what better time to re-release a wave with updated paint/likenesses than now, when they're officially canon. As for the Murdock likeness from the NWH wave, I haven't taken his glasses off, but I wanna say I saw a video review where they did, and it was pretty okay. Not the best, and it depends on the face print, of course, but certainly not the worst we've gotten.
Haven't gotten around to watching What If or Echo yet; waiting to watch them together with the boo, but it's weird to think both have been out for at least a week and we haven't gotten to it. There was a time we'd both get up early to watch together. I'm still all-in on the MCU, but my excitement has waned a bit. That said, I'd still love an Echo figure, especially once (if) the Tracksuit Mafia figures ever actually come out. Only question is which outfit of hers? The leather jacket might be nice to go with the Hawkeye figures, and I'm sure she wears it in the show, but I saw the Funko Pop of her other outfit, which looks pretty cool too.
@joshsquash729 I also sold that set and sorta regretted it. Well, just Colleen really. I later sold all Netflix figures except a Daredevil custom I did and Elektra. I would definitely jump at updates to both and like I said, if they do a full wave of characters from the Netflix shows, I'd probably go all in.
And I get where you're coming from with the latest shows. I had something similar before what if came out and my wife wondered if I finally caught superhero fatigue, but I think it is more lackluster marvel releases fatigue. But, that second season of Loki was soooooo enjoyable to me (I'd still love a figure, hasbro!) and I did enjoy both what if and echo. I'll do spoilers but try to not spoil any plot stuff, just my feelings on them, which may be construed as spoilers by some.
I liked season one. Some episodes stood out and some felt tedious. I remember a point in the middle somewhere where I was feeling bored with the episodes and thought the concept was being explored in a more monotonous way than I expected. The last few episodes turned me around though and I felt the finale was the best and most enjoyable part.
Season two was sorta the opposite for me where I enjoyed the episodes consistently, and had a streak for a time where each felt better than the last. And my opinion but the finale was good not great, but I think it's more that it was as good as the rest rather than a big standout. So season one was saved by the ending while season two managed to be pretty damned solid throughout.
I said in the movie thread that Echo wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be but was better than I expected. Secret Invasion set a looooow bar for me and Loki set a very high one, but I'd rate Echo closer to Loki on that scale. It's a lot like Hawkeye to me where it's clunky with some weird creative choices and probably could have been shorter and more focused but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. The good far outweighed the bad to me. When I think about the show now, I'm stuck on the great parts rather than dwelling on how they could have done it better.
Io9 did an article called something like "7 things we liked about echo and 3 things we didnt" and i pretty much agreed with their list. Not a bad ratio though, especially since some of their likes are clearly 'loves' instead.
As far as a figure goes, I went in wanting the leather jacket version, or something closer to her comics look, and came out wanting ONLY that final costume.
I finished Echo last night, and it was fine. I felt like the finale sputtered out after some worthwhile build up throughout the season. The fight scenes are where it's at. Episode one is practically a long recap, but a welcome one with a particularly awesome flashback. As usual, D'Onofrio as Fisk is chilling. I think Maya is too minor a character, and this show didn't do much to launch her into stardom besides giving more of a back story. But it does have me wanting more and more of Wilson Fisk.
There are some character beats I definitely felt were missing, especially between Maya and Fisk, which would have helped a lot.
I always appreciate when a hero defeats a villain without killing them, and even though I think the show did need to do more to earn that ending, her final moments with Fisk were just terrific to me. It really tied into the theme I think they were trying to express the entire series, but like I said... the show had some clunky parts for sure.
How are all my MCU only collectors doing these days?? Talk about DRY! I don't even visit this forum daily (which I've done since 2014) it really bums me out tbh. I have no doubt that we would have seen a wbn, echo, and anything Loki by now if Hasbro really cared. I know to some I'm probably being dramatic since the nwh figures just arrived last month but I speaking more to the lack of MCU reveals, pipe line, filled holes, missed shows, etc.
How bonkers would it be that we FINALLY have the X-Men and Fantastic Four all back under the Marvel proper roof on the screen but our shelves will remain forever without them if this line were to die for MCU figures. I know that's not the case due to the rumored DP3 and CA4 waves but let me waller in my sadness dang it!
Anyways, just checking in. I haven't complained in a while so I had the itch haha.
Hopefully with Echos decent reviews and the Marvels getting some defense, the MCU can begin its rise back to the top and thus the figures to follow.
Dry, and a bit salty too.
Yes the NWH figures arrived last month, but to be fair the movie wasn't last year. Or the year before.
But it definitely is great to have the mutants and FF joining them, and some this year! I won't hesitate to add Colossus to the shelf. Yeah I'm expecting to want only two figures from DP3, and I'll be pleasantly surprised if there are any in Cap 4 on my wishlist, but why not go back to the well for the glory days of the MCU during this drought? Fill some more missing spots. I've already suggested a mostly-repaint Netflix wave and that can be the next one for the mostly-repaint Infinity Saga collection. And so on.
I have a feeling Deadpool 3 is going to give us many toyetic characters. I've seen a few behind the scenes photos and leaks that suggest some folks we'll all want on our shelves, and hopefully it isn't too long before Hasbro gives them to us. At the very least, a Colossus feels way overdue, and now that they're shining up some of their shiny characters (Glavis Mando, Gobby, etc.), they can give Colossus the paint job he deserves.
I'm really hopeful that this year we'll be able to fill at least a few gaps in the collection. I'm keeping my hopes and expectations low, but the year is still young. Anything is possible! The lull in new properties can only be good for Hasbro- more chances to breathe and play catch-up like they want. They often say how they want to get to some of the older characters, they just don't often have the chance with all the new stuff coming out. Who knows the next time we'll have a lull like this, so definitely take advantage! At the VERY least, give us Lizard and Electro to round out the NWH line, and I'll be happy. Everything else is gravy.
In happier news, I did get shipping notification this morning from EE that my Tracksuit Mafia figures did indeed ship, so barring any in-transit headaches (which, let's be honest, are also quite possible), I'll finally have these bad boys in my hands soon.
@joshsquash729 Awesome about finally probably getting the TS Mafia guys! I follow leaks as well but maybe I missed some. Use the spoiler thingie but tell me which characters you've seen are coming please.
I used to be on it all the time but lately I've been not retaining as much because there's so much contradictory info, but I know there's at least a few DP variants, a TWA agent, Jennifer Garner and maybe Affleck, along with some of the X-Men. but Cable and Domino are apparently not coming back.
But yeah, at least finishing the NWH villains would be fantastic.
Hasbro can DEFINITELY make another wave just filling in gaps! MCU wants:
Darcy
Aunt May
Queen Ramonda
GOTG v3 Gamora
High Evolutionary
NWH Electro
NWH Lizard
S2 Jacket Loki (don't need end of season look)
Renslayer and Miss Minutes
TVA Temporal Suit BAF (it's a cool design - definitely not necessary)
Jennifer Walters
She-Hulk DD
Netflix S1 DD
Ones I'm sure are coming but don't really care about:
Maya (only for completion's sake and I'd be fine with a Hawkeye look)
Kahoori
Always happy to thump for Endgame Nebula and Rocket outfits again.
Avengers 1 Thor, Avengers Loki, Dark World Loki, Malekith, Dark Elves - so many figures! Wouldn't even hate a Civilian Thor if he came with DARCY or Jane or Selvig or make it a four-pack!
Wouldn't mind a What If? Widow, even though the Infinity Saga one pretty much works.
The only problem is if Hasbro can actually release all of these figures under one banner - but they worked it out once and I'm grateful, and I have faith they'll work it out again. 🙂
