Just because it's been incorrectly attributed several times now: John Byrne drew X-Men 135 and designed that particular Phoenix fire raptor, not Dave Cockrum. Dave designed the Phoenix costume and drew the fire effect maybe once or twice before leaving the book the first time. Both incredible legendary artists but the Dark Phoenix saga was Byrne, not Cockrum.
Sorry, OCD stickler rant over ha ha
The creation of Bonita/Firebird around the same time Jean/Phoenix "died" may just be coincidental. If it was intentional and Bonita's superpowers were somehow gained as an effect of the Phoenix force, I don't think that has ever been explored.
The only thing I know of is the messy telling and re-telling of her origin that she encountered a fragment of a radioactive meteorite that the very religious Bonita took as divine intervention, then much later was revealed to be alien trash, which I thought was totally disrespectful to her character. Having an accidental meteorite give her powers is one thing, but trash? Not cool for one of the few religious characters in comic books.
All this talk of the Phoenix Force fire bird effect makes me want Firebird even more to stand in front of it.
Gah, I want Firebird so bad! Keep after them Beamish, they're bound to get to her sooner or later.
You're implying that we spent multiple pages arguing about the Phoenix Force's anatomy?
Fwoosh, uh, finds a way.

I hope the big push of West Coast Avengers figures in recent years ups her profile with the Hasbro team and gets her made quicker.

For real. We're so close to having a complete (classic) lineup with Ankh'd-up Moon Knight on the way - Firebird, Jim Hammond Torch, Living Lightning. Optional (but I want him) black leotard Thing. Anyone else?
Before the panel at SDCC I pitched Firebird to Dwight, Ryan, Dan and other Dan pretty hard. After the panel I pointed out the newly revealed Crystal body in the case was just a new headsculpt and minor paint job away from creating Bonita, plus adding a removable cape if they go for her classic look. I snuck Spitfire in there as well.
I also pointed out:
-Firebird is one of the very few female characters of Hispanic ancestry Marvel has and that her representation in the line would mean a lot.
-Firebird, along with Jim Hammond and Living Lightning complete the WCA.
-She's a gateway to western-themed characters.
-The figure itself would be very economical.
-I would personally buy 2 Jean/Phoenix figures to get an additional firebird effect for Bonita.
One takeaway I can give everybody is that they all knew who Firebird was. None of them was like "who's that"?
I mean Shroud and Red Wolf weren't officially members but hung around for a minute - and I want them...
Totally agreed in both cases. Shroud is such an easy layup.

I REALLY want Red Wolf and Lobo. I'd happily take Shroud too, but Red Wolf/Lobo would be a cool figure set.

Great news that she's at least on their radar! You also just convinced me not to worry too much about already having the Marvel Select Phoenix effect and feeling like the new Phoenix raptor is redundant - I'll just hold on to both until Bonita comes. I have the Toy Biz wave 6 one too, but it's less impressive (see EC's pictures earlier).
Shroud, and Red Wolf /w/ Lobo 1 & 2 would be amazing to get. <3 Shroud is in my top 10. 😀
Speaking of anatomy - I have the Hulkbuster on my desk and just realized the gold below his waist joint is painted and doesn't match the swirly gold above the waist joint - yet it's the same chest piece. That's a horrible choice.
There are only a couple of WCA members who have never been made but I could also go for some Wonder Man costume variations. Red and black, red and green, mullet/no mullet, etc
Carol/Warbird is down to only $17.49 on Target but of course there's none in stock.

Really, another WCA multipack could finish the team:
Firebird
Hammond Torch
Living Lightning
Thing (black leotard)
Shroud
