Seeing those pics, I'm REALLY happy I didn't pass on Skaar.
@normdapito Fun shot, Norm! So close to finally completing the New Avengers!
Wolverine should be at least half a head shorter.
After reading what some people have been saying about AXM Wolverine, my expectations were tempered. I'm pretty pleased with the figure myself. It's certainly not perfect, but not as big a disappointment as he may have been to some.
Sculpt is outstanding. It nails all of the details of the costume, though I think I could have done without the raised yellow rectangles on the gloves and boots. That was an element JRjr added in his Enemy of the State arc, I don't think they were part of Cassaday's design. He is beefier than most other Wolvie figures, arms, legs, torso, all around. The mask seems a bit off, as the black part should not cover so much of his brow. In the art, the yellow nearly went all the way down to his eyes, which were also depicted bigger. The unmasked head is nice, though the ML12 version from Toy Biz does a better job nailing the Cassaday likeness. He's got all the costume piping necessary for the sculpt.
He is just a bit too tall, about 1/8 taller than other standard Wolvies, but because of his beefy sculpt, he seems bigger. He's short enough though. Next to Cyke and other 6'+ characters, he looks short enough.
Paints are hit and miss. I got three copies, and one of mine has a sloppy mask where it meets the exposed part of his face. The blue and yellow of the costume contrast each other well, and I don't see much slop there.
Articulation is not as great as it could be. The double torso (reverse ab hinge + pivoting diaphragm) are a good and effective combo. He's sculpted hunched, so the fact that he doesn't have a hinge neck doesn't help his crouch poses. He CAN look up, just not very high. He does not have boot swivels, which I don't mind, but they could have been included due to being hidden by the boots. His shoulder pads are looped into his shoulder sockets, around the shoulder pegs. Been waiting for this to become standard on all Wolverine figures.
I like the additional hands. Two clawed fists, two sheathed fists, one open right hand, one pointing left hand. Nice to add to the variety of poses and bodily expression he can achieve.
He is an excellent addition to this growing Astonishing X-Men team, and one step closer to completing the New Avengers and subsequent iterations of that team. I really do hope they plan to make AXM versions of Kitty Pride, Beast, and Colossus. Glad to see the Oughts era of comics getting some love in the form of figures.
The yellow rectangles on this sculpt kill my enthusiasm for this figure. NORM, you’re right about them appearing in the Enemy of the State arc, but it was a costume evolution not an artist’s interpretation. The belt is very different as are the boots. He uses this variation in New Avengers books. So this figure is kind of amalgam that doesn’t fit (for me) in either team. I already made customs for both suits so I don’t know if I’d replace my Astonishing Wolvie without grinding off the glove and boot details. The design team does this a lot. Makes a great figure 90% comic accurate. It could be 100% if they would look in a couple comic books and make it look like that. I don’t understand the reasoning except laziness or an “it’s not that important” mindset. 🤷
@akajomiha NICE. Where'd your set come from? I miiight be interested in that Luke Cage if you're looking to unload.
I'm excited as hell for this set. Obviously a classic 2-pack would have made the most sense, but I'm really stoked to get a good modern Luke Cage to go with my New Avengers.
Mine shipped from Deep Discount and should be here soon! Can't wait.

Thanks, Norm- I got it from CMDStore. My go to when I'm impatient haha. Sorry, I already sold the Cage on eBay.

Unless you snag one between now and when Amazon ships mine, you're welcome to my Cage. I have zero interest in this version. I just planned on chucking him into The Box of No Return™ anyway. I'm in this entirely for that Danny.
Got Astonishing Wolverine today. I doubt I'll ever display him with the Kevin James head. So he'll stay in his stubby little cowl despite the fact his head wont go back because of how short the neck is. No fastball special here folks! I put the Psylocke/Ninja Wolverine 2pk Wolverine heads on him and even though the skintone is different it looks like the figure should have come with one of those heads as it has a lot more personality after. The claws are an improvement but the paldrons have to be turned to get different poses to look right. I think the inlay will work with bigger paldrons, but the small ones end up gapping in a different way than the pin-in-the-shoulder ones from the past. Overall it's an okay figure. Limited on range, as the biceps are so big it doesn't matter that there are double elbows anymore, but it's worth having for an X-fan like myself. I only really would get Kitty and Colossus from the rest of this team. Never liked litterbox Beast. On to the next thing...
I would just like to know when this new venom goes on sale because the lack of information is driving me insane
Same! I was gonna post the same thing. I don't like when they reveal stuff so far out in advance from the actual pre-order date.
Same, I've been waiting on any pre-order information. I thought I saw somewhere someone said end of July, but that's probably pure speculation. If so that could coincide with SDCC weekend? That sounds rough.
I guess I see now why Amazon only ships orders that are 2-days distance from you. My 85th Wolverine shipped over the last weekend, from MN to CA. Why CA does not have these closer I don't know. Long story short he's delayed somewhere between MN and CA and estimated to arrive next week. I guess logistically they can't handle cross-country shipping or this is a fluke but considering the whole operation seems to be run by Otto the autopilot from Airplane! according to the reps, all automation, I guess I'd be inclined to say too many moving parts when your item is more than 2-days from you for the system to account for.
"I want my two-dollars...and Astonishing Wolverine!!"
GameStop emailed me to let me know my payment for Superior Spider-Man was declined. I logged in to update my payment method, and the only method listed was my current good card. I tried editing the payment within the order, and it now lists three CC numbers I did NOT input along with an outdated CC number. I usually don't PO from GameStop, and this experience joins the list of reasons not to. Maybe I'll just cancel if the order continues to give me problems.
