Marvel Select Crimson Dynamo!

Crimson Dynamo is one of my all-time favorite villains! Technically several people have worn the Dynamo armor, and there have been a lot of different armors over the years. My first exposure to the character was the 90’s Mark V Dynamo which was red and silver. But this classic version of the Crimson Dynamo is definitely one of my favorites and amongst the most iconic Dynamo armors.

Like the Marvel Select Titanium Man, this Marvel Select Crimson Dynamo is outstanding! Beautiful comic accurate sculpt with excellent proportions and metallic paint. The accessories are super nice, giving you multiple looks for the character. I preordered multiples of this figure! I love all of the wonderful energy effects!
Articulation is great in several respects and limited in others. The neck, torso, shoulders, waist, hips, and ankles are all very nice. I love the way the shoulders have been designed. The huge shoulder “cogs” don’t get in the way of articulation at all. The elbows are quite limited and the knees get less than 90 degrees of range. It surprises me that Dynamo has less range in the elbows and knees than Titanium Man, who is larger.

Marvel Select Crimson Dynamo is excellent scale for a Marvel Select figure, which of course is as it should be. But of course, some people will want to see if this MS figure works with Marvel Legends. I think that depends on which version of Dynamo you have in mind, the angles and posing you use, and how much of a stickler you are for comic accuracy. Crimson Dynamo wore this same armor in an issue of X-Factor, and he was actually even bigger than this figure. And Dynamo wore a very similar version of this armor in Heroes Reborn, and he was about this size as well. In terms of most comic appearances, the MS Dynamo is too large to go with Legends based on vanilla poses. He should be bigger than Iron Man, but not dwarf him like this. That said, if you play with angles or just want to make your hero look like he is going up against a physically more powerful opponent, the MS Dynamo can work for you.

Overall, this Marvel Select Crimson Dynamo is much like the Marvel Select Titanium Man for me—immediately jumps to one of my favorite figures in my collection!  But it does not obviate my desire for these favorite villains of mine to get Marvel Legends figures, too, because I would buy any and all figures of these characters.

Absolutely gorgeous pictures, @akatsuki That pic with the other Soviet Super-Soldiers/Winter Guard is exquisite. Just what I plan on doing as well.

I was going to say the same thing - that group shot is exactly what I wanted to see. Great pics Akat!

Just received my Dynamo today, and all I can say is he’s absolutely amazing. Congrats to both you and the Select team for this figure, @msword. Both he and Titanium Man have set the bar so high that I think Hasbro will be hard-pressed to offer better versions of these characters.

  1. From what I can see, he works well with Legends Iron Man,  even if he's slightly larger! Kind of doubt that Hasbro will ever make these versions of Dynamo and Titanium Man anyway!

That would be a serious shame if Marvel Legends didn't make these classic characters just b/c another company made some out of scale versions to their line. They should take it as a challenge like the Destroyer.

Maybe this is your punishment for always getting your figures earlier than everyone else in the thread. 😆

I'd prefer they concentrate on oversized charcters that can be displayed with my MLs.

Never gonna happen. 🙂

I totally get that, MSWord! You've got your own product line, scale and business model. I fully respect and appreciate that and I know that we appreciate your participation in the forum! There is certainly a market for what jroug mentioned, though of course.

The majority of the Diamond Marvel Select product that I've personally bought was because it was stuff Hasbro/ToyBiz hadn't made at the time that I could fudge into my collection: Mephisto, Chitauri, Brood/Skrull soldiers, Thanos w/ Death, Hawkeye w/ Lucky the Pizza Dog, Immortal Hulk, Illuminati Super Skrull, Titanium Man, all of the zombies, etc. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting. I even bought Ironheart and Squirrel Girl statues/dioramas as placeholders for a bit. Crimson Dynamo is a pre-order for me because Hasbro hasn't made that version yet. I probably would have bought the Weapon H statue if it wasn't a little too big and quite a bit too expensive for me. I've always bought something when it made sense to add to my existing collection. Hell even Mezco got me to buy Lockjaw and I've never, ever bought anything else from them!

Thanks again for participating in the forum and don't let us guys that primarily collect Hasbro stuff give you too much grief!

Destroyer is proof that Hasbro will still make figures even if Select made an excellent one. Each has their place.

Why would anyone doubt Hasbro getting around to these versions of Crimson Dynamo and Titanium Man.  Maybe they'll make other versions first.  Or maybe they'll make these versions next.  Either way, they'll certainly make them.  Especially now that Iron Man is popular.

Also why would MS only concentrate on supplementing ML via larger characters?  Doesn't make sense as a business model.  Especially as any A/B list characters they make certainly sell better than an oversized C/D list character which fits in with ML.

Really intrigued to see if/when MS finally gets around to a classic 70s Iron Man.   The way MS has been hitting it out of the park lately, it should make an outstanding figure.

It's really time MS gets around to Professor X and Scarlet Witch. Her to go with Vision (and the ML Giant-Man), him to go with... everyone. 🙂
