Got my 2 Spider-Men. No paint or quality issues, that you'll see magnified on the socials. Poses like a dream and it's the ideal Peter I've waited for. A beyond worthy successor to Spider-Man Classics Series 12 Spidey.
It’s only “magnified” if it didn’t happen to your copy.
Or it's magnified because it's the same 3 images being posted across multiple platforms, by people who do not even own the figure, to rage farm engagement.
Do better.
Next one was leaked to supposedly be Deadpool. Honestly I don't know what that's gonna' look like since another Deadpool (the one that came with Bob from the SDCC pack) is supposed to release this year also. Honestly I don't think I need a bevy of Deadpool accessories, as I already have some of his more absurd ones from the 3-4 Deadpools I already own. I can't think of anything but dismembered body parts that would really make it stand out, as I keep my Deadpool mostly just 90s-X-Men specific and his usual look.
I might break for the Maximum Wolverine, or a Cyclops but honestly Cyclops has so many different outfits, it'd have to be either 90s or his Dark Phoenix era look. Honestly Spiderman seemed the better value than Hulk to me and I bought neither. Supposedly there's a deluxe Storm coming, it specifically said deluxe and not Maximum, so I doubt they'd double dip that soon after. Maybe Gambit or Captain America would sell alright enough to warrant a spot. I could be swayed for a really packed out Nightcrawler. But I think characters like Iron Man specifically might suffer from this line as he's got so many suits to choose from. Captain America and Wolverine would probably be my choices coming from a sales perspective.
I mean I think when it comes to the maximum Spidey you are being a little over critical. It doesn't just come with a web shield. It comes with like 22 accessories where the average spider-man comes with 5-7. Not to mention its the most articulated spidey they've ever done and can get into poses that other Spider-man figures like the RYV and the AF body can't even reachMaximum Spiderman is a good figure, but it’s not “worth the price”. This time last year, a basic ML was $22-26. Some of those even included build a figure pieces. This new Spiderman is not worth two and a half other figures just because it includes a web shield. Hell- there isn’t even a stand included.
One could make the argument that maybe Hulk is. MAYBE.
In other news, there should probably be at least two Smart Hulks. One with alt slippers instead of hands. One with boots and a big ole gun. They should have the same skin tone so parts can be used interchangeably.

Yeah but the difference in accessories is not worth the $35 extra dollars this figure costs. Further, the fact that it can move in the way Spiderman figures always should have doesnt justify the cost either. Just because they used a new body doesn’t make this one figure worth that extra money. All the reuse of Vulcan and Bucky before that are what is supposed to enable new bodies. Also, they should have made a standard Spiderman body like this years ago. The fact that it took this long and we really wanted it due to the wait doesn’t mean the price isn’t a rip off. If McF were to suddenly fix the height issues and the nearly non existent forward crunch on their abdomen joint on a new buck, that doesn’t mean they should charge me $20 more for it in their latest Batman. I might want it and pay the extra money, but they are still ripping me off.

My figure also has issues with the paint, I just don’t post online. So does my bro’s. Plus we’ve seen video reviews that have paint issues on their copies. Who are you trying to protect by denying that some of the figures have qc issues with the deco? Most figure lines do- why would this one figure be any different?

If your "paint issues" are only identifiable with a magnifying glass, as many of them are, I'm just not going to take you seriously at all. Especially when it's clear you have a pre-existing hate boner for the figure.
Naw. No hate boner for the figure from me. Just the price. The figure itself seems really good from the videos I’ve seen on both sides of the aisle. I really don’t want all those accessories that magically boost the price up to $50. I am hoping they release this figure later at normal price whatever that will be after tariffs. I will consider getting it then. Or if a good sale happens that knocks off about $20. Good chance Hasbro will rerelease the mold later too. I am not keeping up with ML as much nowadays but they have not said they will retire this mold for just this Maximum series right?
@leor I think the general expectation is that we will get more spidey variants on this body at least going forward in the maximum line. So other well known iconic costumes like the black suit, spider armor, battle damaged, classic romita sr, Amazing Fantasy, Scarlet Spider, Sensational, 2099, Six Arm...even several suit variations we haven't seen before are all up for grabs and could see Maximum treatment.
And as far as generalized accessories are concerned I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the ML team decided to take a page out of the Fortnite line and make an Accessories pack for street dios and other assembly pieces that would work for generalized characters.
Ah okay. I don’t even mind waiting a couple of years for this body to be reused on another classic red and blue Spidey. Maybe even if the blue is slightly lighter or even black. I really wouldn’t mind owning it. Just not at $50.
@leor Well you might have to wait a few years for that. For now Hasbro has said that the Maximum series is for collectors who want their Marvel Legends collectors to have more of a high end collector feel, but it can also work for introductory collectors who are not looking to buy into everything that hasbro has to offer and are looking for the quick "One and done" approach to the more popular members of the marvel pantheon. Does that prohibit costume variations or doppelgangers from making an appearance or two? Time will tell. But I think the consensus is for now to keep Maximum where it is and when this brand has shown that it is just as evergreen as the rest of the Legends line that we are used to, these bodies could proliferate if not dominate what is on the shelf in the next several years. Just give it time and see how people respond.
In my estimation, Maximum is trying to set itself up to be the new era of Marvel Legends long term. This is where its trying to go for the next decade if not two decades and the best way to see stuff like this in the future is to support it when its still in its infancy. This is when the line is the most vulnerable. If Hasbro doesn't see enough sales on the Maximum line to continue funding it, those budgets will get cut and redirected into other projects. That's how corporate America works.
Fine with me. I really am patient when it comes to ML since I don’t collect as much of them nowadays. I really don’t care for paying $50 on a figure that looks like 24.99 to me without all the excess accessories. I’ll just wait for sales if there are restocks or miss out if they sell out and no restocks happen.
OK, now that I have the Maximum Spider-Man figure in hand and I’ve had about a week or so to play around with it, here are my thoughts. (I bought 2 of them, BTW).
Is this the best Spider-Man figure ever released? Probably. But at the same time I’m still a bit underwhelmed by it for some reason. It’s a great figure. It looks great and poses well, but I was perfectly happy with the RYV figure, and in many ways I still like that figure better than this new one.
I guess my biggest issue with the Maximum figure is that it’s just so era specific. It is without a doubt a 90’s Spider-Man. So it kind of anchors the figure to that specific time period. Whereas the RYV is a bit more “generic” (for lack of a better word). It’s kind of a mix of classic and modern design that can be fudged into almost any era from the bronze-age to modern times.
My other issue is that the Max figure feels a little more breakable than RYV. For example the left thigh cut on one of the figures I have feels a bit gummy and a little sticky. When I try to move it, it hesitates just a bit and I can feel the peg twisting somewhat before the joint gives way and swivels. I feel like there’s a chance that it could possibly shear off if I’m not careful with it. It seems like there shouldn’t bet be QC issues like that with a $50 figure.
And while I’m on the subject of his thighs, I’m also not super wild about the way his upper legs stick out past his hips. It reminds me of the old Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie figure.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I don’t like the Maximum figure. I’m just saying that I don’t LOVE it as much as I thought I would. Maybe my expectations were too high for a mass-market action figure. And even though I have some issues, it will still probably become my favorite classic Spidey eventually… but for now the jury’s still out.
I've found the RYV Spidey to be a bit too bulky and tall when stood with other Legends. It makes for a really good DD, but too big for Spidey. I also think the head on RYV is a bit odd. I bought 4 of them expecting it to be the best ever, and I do sometimes use it in photos as my go-to modern Spidey... but often revert to the Retro for New Avengers era photos.
I love the size of the Max figure, but it is undeniably 90s specific. If they release it with brighter colors and a classic head, you have a default Spidey.

See, though... isn't this an issue with something they are calling "Maximum" Spidey and charging double the cost of a regular figure? Should it really be something you buy and then go... if they do it again with a different head and different paint that will be my default Spidey...?

I get your point - and it's valid. It's still the best Spider-Man Legend I own - but its a specific style. I can't say that's a bad choice. If the body is used again, it will be another fantastic top-tier figure with another aesthetic look.
