All other Dooms have been ruined for me by the Mezco. The only way to improve it is to give it more articulation, but Doom doesn't really need much so that's a nitpick. I suppose another wire in the cape would be nice, but he's so impressive otherwise that, too, is a nitpick.
Since it is so great is why I have issues with it. I don't think any of the heads are perfect, either a little too big or not quite retro enough, and I was miffed that the articulation couldn't even do the poses in the solicitation photos. It was almost still worth the money, but that chest harness cannon is really a useless cost increaser.
One of my biggest collecting regrets is selling my original Legends Doom with custom soft goods for the Mezco Doom without having it in hand first. The Mezco Doom radicalized me against Mezco. I loathe that figure.
The Legends Doom is good, but I'd like a classic version with butterfly joints.
Which Legends Doom did you have with the soft goods? Super Skrull wave?
@ibentmyman-thing Most collectors don’t even acknowledge that those ML Dooms aren’t really classic Dooms
I love the recent Dr. Doom/Doombot from the Dark Reign set.
But a classic armor Dr. Doom is a must-have!
Seeing the Maximum Spiderman unmasked head in display pictures, now I think he just looks more like French Stewart if he were surprised or had his pupils dilated.
Sorry, I'm not able to access my notifications or quote posts right now.
Yes, it was the Super Skrull wave Doom. I had a set of CJesim soft goods that took literally 18 months to get to me on him.
I wound up getting rid of the Mezco Doom and replacing him with the Cabal three-pack figure. I assume the ultimate Doom is around the corner so I didn't bother putting as much effort into the replacement.
D_Amazing and Robo got a hands-on look at this guy. He looks genuinely amazing.
Looks pretty great to me, my quibbles are purely in terms of aesthetics (would prefer a lighter blue and John Romita style mask, or an AF black & red). I guess the back tilt on the head could be better too but otherwise, it’s got a lovely looking range of motion.
Yes, I love this Spider-Man, but am still salty about the price. I would have paid $30-$35 instantly even with far less accessories, but $50 just seems like a completely unnecessary gouge. I know that I'll probably still end up with it, but that price is just insulting.
The site isn’t letting me quote your post, but I agree about the price. I just can’t convince myself it’s worth $50, especially when I have several other Spider-Man figures that do what I need them to do.
Amazon moved this release up to 4/16
I actually waffled back and forth with Max Spidey. Had him on preorder twice but after seeing reviews on both sides of the aisle, I decided not to get him. I’m almost sure Hasbro will release a cheaper version later using the same buck. That $50 price tag really was just too obscene.
Max Hulk is a no brainer easy pass for me. Too much reuse. At least Max Spidey was supposedly all new sculpt. Even harder to justify that $60 when they Hulk still has pin joints.
I'm still debating whether to get Max Spidey. If I ever see it on sale somewhere, I'll probably get it. Hulk is a different story. The only thing appealing to me is the thunder clap feature but that's not enough to entice me to buy it. I don't care for any of the head choices except maybe the Keown one. Then there's the pinned legs and no double elbows. I know they haven't done double elbows for the larger figures for a long time but if ever there was a reason to try again, it should have been for "maximum" Hulk.
I honestly wouldn’t buy Max Hulk even if I liked the price. I don’t like any of the heads that it comes with.
What improvements would you want for a maximum Hulk 2.0?
