I pre-ordered two for now from GameStop. I get a little discount being a Pro member and free shipping with the two total being over $59. The price didn't bother me whatsoever for sometimes I still have customs made which cost anywhere from $80-$300 depending on what character I want. I would take Cyclops with this concept with a whole new body that is just slightly taller than 80th Cap. Then Hasbro could use that same body for a proper sized Silver Surfer, Hawkeye, Vision and if you want Grim Reaper. I would even take Magneto and Falcon on the body even if they are not slightly taller than Captain America.

Whatever they make in this format needs to be made specifically for the character. I won't balk at reuse just on principal, but at $50/pop they really can't be cutting corners. No strappy bits that slide around loose, sculpt lines from nonexistent gloves, or painted on details. No "close enough" on scale/size. Really, everything here should be a completely new and dedicated sculpt - it's not like they can't turn around and reuse the new bodies in the main line later on. But as soon as reuse that compromises the main figure shows up here the value immediately falls out, and we're left realizing we're paying double for a regular ML figure with an accessory pack.

I agree, but the painted on webs and the wrist cuts suggest they already have other plans for this $50 Spidey buck. Anthony Customs addresses this at the 9 min mark (don't watch if you don't want to see this release heavily pre-criticized.)

I don't care for web lines that aren't painted on. The ones that are raised, the ones that are etched, don't belong on a comic based classic costume Spider-Man. They're fine on the movie guys, because that's accurate to the source. But I don't want to see anything but painted lines on a comic Spidey.

The wrist cuts on this Spider-Man are to accommodate the swappable non-gloved, exposed web shooter hands/forearms.

I'm going to say my piece on this. So for those who have been making the comparisons to Mafex and other overseas imports; I think the Maximum series is a nice attempt for Hasbro to dip their toes into the premium collector space without having to sacrifice people's wallet's to get there. Most toylines like this from import companies (and even domestic companies) can cost upwards of$100, $150 or even as much as $250 or more depending on the size of the figure and what it comes with and it also has an import fee on top of that. Also those figure lines tend to have year long wait times or longer. I feel like this Maximum series has the best virtues of both the classic legends line which includes figures that typically match comic accurate looks, they have a high degree of articulation and they also retain the short release windows. but they now include a larger quantity of accessories like most premium lines and a $50 price point, which might sound expensive but its not as expensive as the $100 or more figure with the import cover charge. So this feels fair. For those who are shouting from the rooftops, I would ask you to just stop buying mafex for like a year and substitute it for this new maximum series and then compare reciepts. Because these "One and Done" releases are only supposed to be made once every quarter as I understand. I think Maximum might be the safer choice in the long haul but still just as fun.

I agree with this. Painted on web lines aren't them cheaping out - it's being accurate to the comic costume. I appreciated sculpted web lines as a choice to enhance the thing in 3D, but it's by no means more accurate to the comics.

The wrist cuts explanation makes sense, too. I didn't watch the AC video, but that seems like a silly thing to miss if you're going to the trouble to make a video to scrutinize the figure before it's even released.

I do think it's unfortunate, the people who say -  "to me, this is a $35 figure, but I paid $50 because I decided I could..."   simply because the message it sends to Hasbro is - they can get away with charging $50 for a $35 figure.

Like, if you genuinely believe the figure is worth $50 -  then knock yourselves out, buy it and enjoy it.   But if you truly believe it is not worth the price, but you're paying it anyway then the message you are sending is that this is what you want -  more of this product at this price.

And it's funny because I've been on the exact opposite side of this argument when I'm advocating or defending paying full price for Legends figures of new characters -  when it's likely some of them will be available at discount prices later -  because I do want to send the message that I want more of that type of product.    I buy virtually every new release at the full retail ask because I love Marvel Legends and want it to go on as long as possible.   But I won't buy this because I am one who sees this as more of a $35 value package and I honestly do not want Hasbro to continue to put $35 worth of product out at a $50 price tag

I have a family situation that has made the last 3 months the most difficult of my life and it turns out that has caused me to spend less on figures than I have in I don't know how long.  Life is hard and there comes a time when toy therapy is warranted. (Yep, I preordered one from BBTS).

I feel you. I hope things get better for you and yours, and quickly! Keep your head up, friend.

This echo chamber where people paint themselves as the martyr's of collector kind for abstaining and deem anyone purchasing the toy as traitorous to the cause, or being wilfully manipulated by the big scary corporation, is a laugh.

Then turning into snarling dogs when people disrupt their unstable bubble.

This isn't the smoking gun at Hasbro you were hoping for. Judgement day did not arrive. If people want to buy toys, they're gonna buy their toys. All of this unhinged pontificating hasn't gotten you anywhere.

Entertaining! I'm gucci either way. Hasbro lowers the cost? Good for my wallet! Performs well despite the high price tag? More toys to come!

Who's doing that?  Thread seems pretty civil.

I know you seem triggered by me for some reason DarkXorn,  but like I said, if you think this is a good value and you are happy to pay it -  good on you.

Legitimately -  there certainly appear to be people who feel like this is a decent product for the price.   It is obviously selling.     If people are happy with it, that's good.   I want people to be happy with the toys they buy.

I will be sad if Hasbro decides to move the market in this direction and leave $25 figures behind in favor of more of these options -  but if they find a solid market for these and can keep their regular Legends line going then everybody wins.

It's perfectly civil here. I have no doubt that the discussion on *other* social medias is positively unhinged, but no need to bring that energy here.

@panthercult, I get where you're coming from. It would be helpful if we could go all Professor X on the ML and executive teams to really get an idea of the intent of this model. Because if, as you suggest, this is just a trial balloon to see how far upwards they can push prices - then yeah, we should hold out. But if this is the debut of a new model for a premium figure that, while under the ML banner, will largely be a new thing that runs in tandem with the main line? That I actually do want to support, even if I think the initial release is a little mismatched from the high price. Of course, the truth is it's all things - a new model that they're trying that will also inform their understanding of the price/demand tradeoff.

I was definitely way more eager to throw my support behind the other "premium/deluxe" format they debuted last year, in the form of Dragon Man and the three Sentinels I ordered. I was also fully behind the Hellcharger despite it's high price, and that was definitely understood by a lot of collectors as a rubicon that could not be crossed. Truth be told, I'm totally in favor of them trying out these additional ways to get cool and interesting figures out, and I'm just not sure how much the good sales on the single most hotly demanded character in their IP is going to impact how they choose to price the (much more important, imo) Bushwackers, Destinys, and Wongs in the mainline.

How dare you say so succinctly and clearly what I spent two long, boring paragraphs trying to communicate!
