I'll be in the minority, but all I care about is what you said - it is the BEST Spider-man Hasbro has done and by far the closest McFarlane representation ever, it's perfect.  That's what I will be looking at enjoying I will hardly care about a $50 tag, it's a small price to pay for something I really want and much less than Mafex.  The Toy Biz one eventually went for like $400 secondary.

I get people have budgets, probably will go on sale for $40 at some point, but I cannot wait for the "wow I'm really surprised how great this figure is now that he's in hand"  and "wish I got this at $50 because it sold out everywhere" comments.  Could be wrong, but I need this option - actual awesome figures.....and only 3 a year.  It's not breaking the bank and I will always display them rather than lose interest like the majority of reused figures.

There are a lot of things to consider with this one, obviously. For me, this is a figure that I'd be ordering multiples of. Without question. If this were priced in line with the deluxe Widow, I could stomach it and grab at least a handful. In Canada, Black Widow went for $39 at the time when TRU released it - which was pretty reasonable especially considering how much TRU charges for Legends compared to almost every other retailer. At the time they were selling regular Legends for $35.99 which is what everyone else charges now up here.

Compared to Widow, this figure is also a new and improved body that will, in theory, be used for every other Spider-Man figure made in the standard line. So there is some inflated cost associated with the tooling of a new body, I guess. That's just the assumption. For accessories, and assuming this does end up being $72.99 in Canada, we are paying $33 more (essentially the cost of another full figure) for 6 additional hands, a web ball with base, web-shield and thwipping web. I'm considering the Spider Sense effect and web lines a wash against the guns, extra wrist things and effects pieces which came with Widow. So the cost of an extra figure for 6 more hands and 3 web effects. That's tough to swallow.  It's $220 plus tax for 3 of them, Canadian.

I definitely see this thing selling out quickly - even if priced at $49.99 in the US. This obviously sends the wrong message to Hasbro and they'll keep charging high for this Maximum line. I'd actually be thrilled to be wrong in this case about what collectors will do - and sales for this are sluggish because of the price. I was wrong about people going for the Hellcharger, regardless of price, and I could be wrong here too. For those who would urge others to not purchase unless there is a sale offered - that will be a tough one because there is a strong chance this sells out quickly and becomes insane on the secondary market. We may never actually see this body used again in the regular line, which would further drive people to simply pay whatever it costs to ensure they get one. Alternatively, if we do see this body used in the main line, it would really piss off the people who paid the inflated cost for Maximum and be a VERY smart move for those who skipped this release. I don't suppose the Hasbro team has commented whether Maximum releases could be reused for the main line?

Lot to consider. I want 3, at least. Even with a 15% discount at GameStop up here - still a hard pill to swallow.

@ditko see that whole “it might cost a lot later” doesn’t really work on me unless it’s a character I love and dont expect to see again. Ive passed on several of the last few Spiderman figures for that reason. If Hasbro wants to overcharge or put it in a two pack or not produce enough of a particular Spiderman, I just wont buy that figure. There will be another one eventually, and like people said, it will probably be cheaper.

I totally get not wanting to spend the extra money on this figure. Hell, I'd cut half the accessories if it meant saving $10 or $15.

That said, if folks don't support this line at full price, it'll end. Hasbro will put out the Spidey, Hulk, and Deadpool they have planned and never try something like this again.

All you can do is vote with your wallet. If you see the value and have the money, go for it. If not, don't. But don't be surprised if this line ends if Spidey is on sale in two months.

@enforcer Is it cheaper to order something in Canada than it would be for one of us to buy it and ship it up to you?  Also, it boggles the mind that we get 5% off at GameStop for being a Pro member, and you guys get 15% off.

@rishoutfield it'll depend on the price discrepancy when it's listed... but the way our dollar is going, it might end up being way more. Tough time to be a Canadian collector.

I picked up a brand new reissue of the Mafex last year for $47 + shipping. Admittedly, that one doesn't have an unmasked head but still.

I'm not really jazzed about this figure, but I would like to "play" with it. Not sure if I want to buy one knowing there's a chance it won't last a year in my collection.

I wouldn't be worried about the cost to acquire down the road. If this sells out then expect it to return. Maybe with altered colors, or maybe the exact same release. It sure sounded like that was part of the intent of the line to keep popular characters in some sort of state of constant production. Not constant in that you can always find one at will, but there will probably be another offering in time. And yeah, if it doesn't sell then the line would probably be DOA. This is Hasbro testing the upper limits of what its customer will pay for a Legends release. The only silver lining is if it does bomb then you're probably more likely to see these tools reused for a standard release. If it's a success then I wouldn't count on that anytime soon as they won't want to devalue this series by quickly making it available at a cheaper price.

As much as I love Spidey, I can't see paying any more than $40 for this (and really, I'd be griping about that, as this seems like it should go for $35, tops). If I didn't have any Spider-Man figures already, then I'd be more inclined to eat the cost, but I have plenty that I'm happy with. If they price this at $50 or more, then I really do think this line will be DOA.

If this ends up being $50 USD... I wonder that the Hulk will cost...

Hasbro is out of their mind if that is the correct price!
