- Lol, I think it'll make it from the standpoint of the retailers ordering at least 1k-2k...should be fine
How are they supposed to do that? They didn't with Galactus, presumably because Pulse had put the 5 item order limit in by then. Retailers sold Sentinel at a markup from the $350 backing price, but that was before Pulse had the order limit in place.
I don't get why they even have that order limit in at all. Why would they want to prevent BBTS, EE, etc from ordering a bunch at full price?

Yes, the 5 unit limit has been around since the first Haslab. In reality, very few etailers back units to resell on their own sites because they can't afford to carry the cost for 12-16mos. Most of the overseas etailers offer the Haslab items on their sites only while the campaign is still running and require a pretty big NRD. BBTS is probably the only one willing to consistently back a few dozen units for themselves using multiple Pulse accounts and then reselling them post-campaign at a 30-40% mark-up with some attractive financing options. That said, all those thousands of units that get backed on the last day are just the fences-sitters, speculators, and FOMO-induced fans, nothing more.
As far as I can tell (I've been tracking these with CANPRIME since it started) The G.I. Joe Skystriker finally hit the Production goal of 10k on the LAST day, then everyone jumped on board and they ended the campaign with 16,797 backers. That got them Production, Goal 1 & Goal 2, but missed out on unlocking Goal 3 (2x Pit crew figures).
Much like this one, it was a nail-biter. The last day started with 7,826.

Wow, more than doubled in the last day? There is still hope then! Not just to fund but maybe for the tiers too!
Giant-Man:
7,193 / 10,000 (+360) 71.93% of funding goal with 1d 19h left.
Getting closer, but time is running out. I believe it is still under performing in these final days compared to other Haslabs that were already funded in the final days. Though niteowl86 has it right. I had to go back and look, but yeah the Skystriker is definitely where this is at the moment. The good thing is that there isn't any (currently) competing other Haslabs. The bad thing is now is a different time and people seem to be tapping out with their wallets, especially seeing all those blowout prices at places like Ollie's. However it is going in the right direction so let's see what happens.
I watched the YouTube video interview just now
So the international orders include markets in China Australia Mexico and other markets
if anything takes this over the top it will be collectors in China
theres a huge market for nostalgic super heroes in the Asian markets.
most high end collectors with deep pockets are in Singapore China etc
so yeah, the fickle North American fans will probably be replaced by the emerging markets.
this is getting funded. Thank you to everyone that funded it. I’ve collected from what seems like day 1 and this figure is the last top tiers I need back in my collection. You guys deserve a pat on the back. Don’t care about the YouTube critics.
Whatever you think it cost them to get it to this point, it likely cost a hell of a lot more. Meetings take time. They were meeting internally to discuss strategy, then with Marvel, marketing, design, etc., etc. These are all salaried people who could be working on something else.
Plus the prototype, marketing materials, advertising, and so on and so forth.
Yup, if they track their hours by project, and they treat the HasLab as a separate project, I am sure the team spends a lot more from an accounting sense then we think they do to get one of these going. And just as importantly, when a HasLab fails, they have little to show for it - and a valid question might be along the lines of "what if we had the team design two waves with that time" as the time they spent ultimately was not productive, or worse "why did you guys think this would sell, don't you know your market?"
I suspect the Legends team has a decent amount of goodwill built up given the huge success the first two HasLabs had, but I think they need this to succeed or else there might be a slight hit to the perception of the brand within Hasbro. Not a "the line is failing" panic, but I have to guess the line is not as strong as it was a few years ago.
I don't see it as a matter of the line failing, per se. A lot has turned around since the Eternals wave from my limited perception. (I do try to read and listen to investor info.)
But it's possible they may decide something isn't working as well as it should be. In particular, we've got comic waves being skipped by retailers and Target clearancing out Avengers 60th stuff that's fairly new.
The B-school way of looking at this is not necessarily blame directed at the teams or retail partners but possibly a sense that there are opportunities not being maximized.
The A-Level/A-List stuff next year may be part of that. I don't see that discussed as much in Legends circles as much as I do Transformers but both brands (and possibly more) are getting sub-lines with top tier characters in solid cases in totally distinct packaging and SKUs and price points. TFs are doing the next movie Optimus and G1 Bumblebee (likely a new mold) in their first assortment.
I'm not saying anybody gets fired over this one Haslab but they might shuffle around people between teams, split these guys up, and get new eyes on the brand.
Or, at a minimum, like I say, get a totally different team on a Marvel Haslab that is not Legends 6 inch based.
Like I said before, something like a Doom helmet and cloak, Ironman breastplate, a Transformers (or G.I. Joe) mashup, a NERF Infinity Gauntlet.
The Marvel brand is essentially usable by any action figure or roleplay team at Hasbro. Hasbro's concern is probably maximizing Marvel revenue and a Haslab is a nice pick-me-up. Even if it isn't a Haslab, per se, they may look and say, "Where else can we apply the Marvel property via a special project to pump up revenue by another $5 mil?"
The Legends guys don't seem to have an answer to that. So you go wherever you have to go to find another $5 mil in revenue inside the company using Marvel branding if you think it isn't saturated.
Sentinel had an order limit of 5 as well, I believe all haslabs have had it
It did not. When Sentinel ran Pulse had no item ordering limits on anything--Haslabs or regular products. Pretty sure it wasn't a feature in the version of Shopify they had at the time, which is the e-commerce software the site is built upon. Or maybe they just didn't know how to configure it at the time, not really sure why they didn't have any ordering limits back then. The limits started kicking in on other regular Pulse items a few months before Galactus ran, and then it applied to Galactus.
I still don't get why they put the ordering limit on Haslabs. I'm guessing it's to make it difficult for retailers to get it, but why do they care about that at all? If BBTS or EE want to speculate they can sell it at a markup then let them. Usually they sell to retailers well below MSRP, so I would think them not making Haslabs available to retailers just means not giving them their usual wholesale price break.
BBTS is probably the only one willing to consistently back a few dozen units for themselves using multiple Pulse accounts and then reselling them post-campaign at a 30-40% mark-up with some attractive financing options.
Which other Haslabs have they done that with besides Sentinel? I didn't search for GI Joe or Transformers so those I don't know about. I know for sure they never offered Galactus in any mass quantities, although a few units have popped up from time to time ever since the units shipped, but it was always a very small number.
With Sentinel they offered it at a markup before the campaign even ended, and they sold out during that time period. Dunno how many they had, but it was at least the 24 units that their item quantity drop-down field supports on product pages. You've always been able to use that to see if BBTS has less than or more than 24 units of any given product.
Have the people who seem to have a deep interest in this topic and have spent hours analysing why they believe this won't fund or why it isn't funding, actually backed it?

Only thing I could guess would be they don't want retailers buying up a bunch of them, sitting on them for a year, and then clearancing them out. They might want to avoid the possibility of people seeing Haslabs going for half price a year later, and trying to play the clearance waiting game.
EDIT: Two years later I guess, given lead times.
Yeah I just don't understand the cap on orders
The only thing I can guess is they don’t want people opting not to back if they believe they can go to BBTS later. But…it’s not like eBay doesn’t exist.
