@facΒ
That's my point I think.
The days of "take it or leave it" are over.Β They missed on the EOV and they clearly adjusted, even admitting to it in the unveiling stream.Β So to me that should mean, as a team, you are more on the ball with this project and promoting it.Β However they seem to have stuck with the "post some pics and wait for NYCC" as their plan.Β Yes they revealed some more add-ons during PulseCon, but it kind of goes back to the Rancor and the idea of "really that is what you are revealing?"Β Not exactly driving the project forward.Β Some pics on Instagram are nice, but they shouldn't be the entirety of your marketing between big events.Β Β Yes Ryan did join some Youtubers in the early days, but they have gone radio silent since then.Β Β And if you are going to bookend events to promote this project then maybe try other things to keep interest up than a few photos.Β Supposedly these projects are big things that happen once a year, but it doesn't seem like they have much marketing planned around that idea.Β Most of what they do seems to be pretty much the same thing they do for general release marketing (diorama shots, some post online, etc.)Β Maybe it is just the idea of diminishing returns and nothing they do will make a difference anyway.
Granted, they may have their hands tied about what they can actually do to promote Giant-Man.Β It just seems like they are following the same game plan as with the EOV, yet they clearly want to have a success after the failure of the EOV.Β To me that would imply you have a different game plan going forward to promote this.Β However it seems like they just don't have any other ideas about promoting this.Β
Again, I'm just putting my opinion forward, and maybe Giant-Man isn't a strong enough character to carry a Haslab.Β Also as I said maybe their hands are tied by those above them and they can't do much more than what they are doing now.Β
Either way I still feel this will fund, but it has been a lackluster project from the perspective of maintaining interest.
Giant-Man:
5,679 / 10,000 (+36) 56.79% of funding goal with 11d 19h left.
If you're active on any type of social media, it isn't radio silence at all. That's just flat out misinformation, which I'm assuming is only because you're unaware/don't use it that often.
Β
Steve Evans, Dan Yan and Dwight Stall are all giving regular updates, posting new images, and engaging with the project, far more than they've done previously.

Giant-Man looks great, the price is right, and he's an absolute icon of a classic Avenger. I hope enough people feel the same way in the next 12 days, because I'd love to have him backing up the rest of his teammates in a big 'ol group display.Β
My ML collecting has taken a nosedive and I honestly have no idea where he's going to fit on my shelf, but I just backed him. Your statement sums it up and although I was going to skip it (perfectly happy with the latest Ant Man) he's just too effing cool to pass up.
I'm a bit shocked he isn't closer to funding with 11 days left. Higher end adult collectibles have really taken a hit for so many reasons. I work in marketing myself and while it's tough to criticize much without knowing a group's limitations...I am not a fan of the actual Giant Man page at all. Among other things, move those cool pictures and tier unlocks to the top!
As much as I'd love the Skrull head I just hope he gets 10K and fully funds.Β
Β
Woo! Love to hear it! I hope everyone who loves the Avengers see it as straightforwardly as you do. It really does put into perspective for me that this only costs slightly more than a standard wave, but is something that will be such a standout piece that I know I'll be thrilled to have.

@facΒ
That's my point I think.
The days of "take it or leave it" are over.Β
Fair enough - just to clarify by "take it or leave it" I meant back to basics where the main offering is 99% of the draw, and any tiers are perks but are not essential - just a contrast to the EoV which seemed to be relying a lot more on the tiers to enhance interest.Β
And thanks for your tracking updates, always interesting to see.
Β
You're right, maybe "radio silent" isn't the right term.Β I'm not on social media so I can't speak to it.Β How does it work for Dan?Β The link you provided doesn't show anything on the page about Giant-Man.Β Is that pinned posts or something?
Dwight has lots of pics, but is there any discussion not from fans already invested in the product?Β Is he just givingΒ a "like" to people's posts?Β Again I am not on social media so I don't know what a pic on Instagram entails for promotion.
And to that, I wonder what kind of return they get on posting pics to social media?Β I mean if someone is following Dwight wouldn't they already be invested in ML products, and be more likely to already be a backer?Β
I would imagine that yes they are more engaged now than with the EOV due to how that campaign went compared to this one so far.Β
I wonder if more people would be backing if it wasn't so huge.Β
<raises hand>
That would be me. I have no complaints about the look, the tiers, the price, the character choice - the whole campaign seems nicely executed. But to me he is just too big - I feel like he will tower over/dominate an Avengers display to the point the rest of the team will seem like afterthoughts, and I think being so close in height to the Sentinels and Galactus actually diminishes the relative huge-ness of those guys as the centerpiece of their displays.
I backed the EoV - despite some misgivings - because I could see how an eventual GR display (with the rest of the GRs on their rides) would work and would be cool; but even though I have less affinity for Robbie than I do for Hank, this is just not the size Hank that I want.Β
Β
Β
That's me too. I think it's too big or I would back it. I backed Galactus and the Sentienl but not the EoV because of price. I just wanted the car and GR and I felt Hasbro was forcing me to buy a whole wave of figures I didn't want.Β
If Giant-Man was smaller or better yet, a couple of smaller figures with different outfits I would definitely back it.Β
I still wish it wasn't AS big as it is, but I'm backing it too. I'll figure something out...
@facΒ
I'm starting to wonder if maybe they should go the route of "Boba Fett's Throne Room" for these more basic offerings.Β Someone posted about this earlier and it kind of makes more sense to me now.Β
Why not offer this Giant-Man as a preorder on Pulse and offer the base package we are seeing here for $200US and let it go?Β I think it is a good offering as is, and the extra would be nice, but I also think the tiers kind of skew my expectations about the value of the project.Β
Kind of the psychology around you can't miss what you didn't know existed, but once I know it exists I want it!!! haha
Thanks for the...........thanks on the updates.Β As I said before I do it more for #$%@ and giggles but I also have kind of let it become a habit for me.Β Brian Brink is still the gold standard for tracking these projects.
Dwight continually posts pictures, which is awesome, as he seems very much invested in this HasLab. His humor and tenacity for this project are greatly appreciated.
Ryan went to D23 with the prototype, maybe joining a podcast or two, but I haven't seen anything else from him regarding promoting this - and he's in marketing. Seems like he'd be doing more promotion specifically for this.
Dan has tweeted, but I'm not on Twitter so I don't know how much, just going off of other posters posting his tweets. Similar to Ryan, he's a marketing guy, so I'd expect something more from him since that's what they do, right?
Steve Evans continually promotes this HasLab and a bunch of other stuff, which is great.
It's just odd to me that the two marketing guys are doing less to promote this than the two non-marketing guys.
Social media is one of, if not the most effective way of gaining traction and spreading the word about products. I don't follow any of them and I've seen their posts retweeted, liked, come up under suggestions, when browsing. So much that I know where to go to pull those links and references from. Dan has two Giant Man tweets up today alone with the set up for NYCC. They put it out and it spreads from there like a web, the same as any other marketing. I'm not sure what other means would be more effective, the side of a milk carton? 😋Β
They've certainly upped the ante with it and engagement is going well, with obvious detractors piping up, but it's good to see that even they are getting told to shut up in overwhelming chorus.
The way the Haslabs appear on the pulse website are pretty effective too, when you're browsing it'll appear in the middle of the products screen shouting "Hey, look at me!". I dunno how more on the nose they can be about it. As Steve promotes everything from Hasbro he's certainly helping with getting the project seen by thousands of non Legends collectors.
On the marketing front, I can also say that I get at least one ad for Giant-Man on my toy Instagram feed every day.
Granted, I'm not backing it because it's too big for my display, but they are getting it in front of my face daily.
It has paid advertising on Fbook and Instagram. Where else should they advertise it? National television?
Β
That said I am surprised they havenβt shown a retro carded FA Wasp or Yellowjacket for a little synergy. One would think some of those Clea parts were meant to double as FA Wasp
If this doesn't fund, then it seems like the writing is on the wall and they should just be done with ML Haslabs. Maybe they can shift to 1/18 scale Haslabs instead since those seem to work for Star Wars.
To a collector's POV, it is wild that a Wasp still hasn't been shown yet. In the last few months we got a 6" Ant-Man, an updated Ultron & a Clea who's a skirt piece away from being Wasp.
Still hoping they'll show her during NYCC & throw in an exclusive Wasp effect stand into the Haslab.
@derrabbi If I'm not seeing Giant Man tonight during Thursday Night Football then they just aren't trying enough! They should be partnering up with Budweiser and having him slam beers at halftime!
