Reading through the earliest Avengers issues (currently on issue 30 now) has told me two things re: Pym. 1) He got this big as Giant-Man plenty of times, even in the very early Avengers run and 2) I regret selling my 6-inch Goliath from the SDCC Ant-Man set, and I really want them to do a 10" Goliath to match the size he was stuck at for a while.

I get not having figures in the set as tiers (even though I would much prefer them), but maybe not including a 6" Pym was an oversight.

Dwight is having more fun on Instagram, this time with the grayscale Giant-Man prototype vs. Juggernaut. I can't seem to figure out how to post the pictures here.

During one of his posts yesterday featuring Giant-Man and The Leader, Dwight said this:

"@ryan_ting he was just the first figure I found to use that had already been revealed. Ya got to be careful you know."

Is this a hint? Maybe Dwight's photos are leading up to a reveal, Wasp being the most obvious? Maybe a picture of the prototype holding Wasp in the palm of his hand?

Dwight doesn't do hints, just inadvertent reveals.  That was him trying not to get yelled at by Ryan.  😨

yeah i wouldn't say the Haslab is much of a bellwether for the line as a whole. Most people seem to think its reasonably priced, its just that they either don't need a Giant-Man that big or don't want to pay $200 for Giant-Man regardless of how well-made he is.

Totally agree with this. If Giant Man was ~16 inches and had two figures as tiers, I'd gladly dish out the $200, but as it is, I'm having a hard time justifying paying that price for a single character that is (in my opinion) way oversized and over-designed. FOMO might get me to bite, but either way, if it doesn't fund, I don't feel like that is an indicator of how well the Marvel Legends line is doing. It seems to me that it's specifically a HasLab issue.

FWIW this is pretty much me too.

Yeah Legends aren't going anywhere. People will continue to grumble about price increases and nitpick the hell out of them because they're paying more... but I think I'm probably going to be buying legends for the rest of my life lol

It is genuinely mind-boggling that there have been people born and are now going to college during the life span of Marvel Legends.

I think I need to sit down.

It's a tough one that this was the toy line I chose as my only ongoing collection. It will never end. GI Joe has some amazing figures but that won't last 20+ years.

Thinking about buying ML Series 1 in high school makes me feel old.

It's a good design,  I like how it looks. However, I don't know that I want a Giant Man THAT big. I already have the Sentinel and Galactus that I had to come up with a dedicated layout to display those two. I have the ToyBiz Giant Man and it's a great figure. It does need to be updated but I don't see any reason why they couldn't do a 12 inch version and sell it online if stores didn't want to carry it. Then, if they wanted to go the cheap route, they could just paint the suit details on the figure. That way, they could keep re-releasing with new decos for other large characters like any version of Goliath or Atlas. I just keep thinking about how the whole mission statement for Haslab is to get figures made that wouldn't have any other way of getting made. Giant Man definitely doesn't fit that category. He's a key member of the Avengers and needs to be available for anyone that wants him in their collection.

So why do you guys think this isn't as successful?

  • It's too big. Personally I'd have preferred an 18" one, even at the same price. There's only so much room for massive toddler-sized toys. I have multiple Sentinels and a Galactus.

  • There's a looming economic recession. Not the fault of Hasbro but it's reality.

  • Lack of supporting figures. Everyone here tells I'm crazy for skipping due to being able to buy the Target Exclusive Black Widow. But many people want a Wasp or Hank Pym figure to go with this. It's disappointing they didn't plan this better.

  • Lack of included figures. I get the concept of "not wanting to lock figures behind a paywall" but the figures can drive the demand for the Haslab.

I'm on the fence, probably won't back it, and what would have pushed me over was if it was smaller and more manageable to display and if it included figures I couldn't get elsewhere. Even if the price was higher.

Galactus didn't hit its funding goal until day 40-41, and the general trend is that we shouldn't have expected much activity right now. Still confident he easily hits the mark in the last 3-4 days of the campaign.

I do think the lack of tiers - and the lack of unknown/surprise tiers - could be contributing to people not backing earlier. The previous campaigns kept the tiers as a mystery, giving some incentive to individuals to throw their support in earlier to contribute to finding out what was next. Here they revealed everything up front - something many people have said they would prefer - but it could be working against them. In this case, if the tiers were only ever going to be the faceplate/head, maybe it was smart, as people would have been speculating for weeks which figures would be included, and inevitably be disappointed. Showing the whole offering upfront disarms that.

But hey, if the slow pace is worrying them and they want to throw something in last minute, might I suggest a 6" Giant-Man, FA Wasp, or Jarvis? Might tick some people off but it would definitely help get it over the line. And I won't complain about getting a bonus!

I've said this before, but I'll say it again because there seems to be some people panicking. There are a ton of people like me who will always back these on the final weekend (and not a minute before), no matter what. Probably 40% of the total orders for the campaign will be placed between October 20th-23rd. I've never backed a HasLab until the final day, and I bought Galactus and 3 Sentinels. I fully intend to buy multiples of this Giant-Man, but I see no reason to commit early - and yes, I know that you're charged at the exact same time regardless. I have a friend who is a comic book store owner who also intends to buy the max that he can on the final weekend - but he looks at it the same way as me, there is just no incentive to commit early. I'm not worried at all, as I would be beyond shocked if it didn't fund. However if it doesn't, I still love my ToyBiz BAF - so I won't cry over it either way. I do believe that if this would somehow fail to fund that it might be the end of the line for Marvel Legends HasLabs as I just can't imagine them doing a more fan friendly offering than this one. Two failures in a row and they might just throw in the towel.
