Ryan is live right now on this podcast. Mad props to him for doing this.
My dilemma is that I want to back this HasLab, but even if I do, the Toy Biz BAF would still be my Giant-Man of choice. At 57, I’m on the downside of my lifespan as an adult collector. I don’t mean that in a sad, depressing way. I’m just being practical. I need to start downsizing, and as cool as this Giant-Man HasLab is, a figure that takes up that much display/storage space just doesn’t make sense at this point in my life, especially when the Toy Biz BAF is half the size and is still one of my all-time favorite Marvel Legends.
In other words, I’m still trying to talk myself out of it. 😛
I'm 43 and my thought process is much the same!
4000 backers!
For anyone who has backed already, please remind me...
Are you charged when you back, or when the HasLab closes?

I fully intend to back this, but I'm undecided whether I want to buy one or two. If I buy two, I feel like I need to do Pulse Premium since it would be $30+ for shipping of just the HasLab. However I only buy like 2-3 others things form Pulse per year. If I only buy one, I'll skip Pulse Premium. However I also tend to believe that they're going to increase their exclusives as regular brick and mortar retail continues to be a less successful avenue for them. That Pulse Premium decision is actually the only reason that I haven't already backed it.
I backed two, but I'm considering canceling the order for two, and reordering two separately, in case I talk some sense into myself that I only need one.

This isn't a dilemma for me as I know that I'm backing... but I'm 48 and my adult sons (23 and 19) are already on me about not having to deal with my figure collection after I die. They're sensitive to this because they helped me deal with cleaning out both of my parents' and maternal grandparents' homes when they passed in recent years. So I get what you're saying!

This is a topic that runs around in my head all the time, but it's better saved for another thread. But mortality and collecting is something I'm constantly contemplating. I've accumulated too much leave my family to deal with after I pass. I've been wanting to dump a bunch of stuff, but I haven't found the right outlet for that. My local comic shops don't want what i'm dumping because they'll probably have just as much trouble selling it. I don't want to deal with eBay. I really don't know what to do.

I'm fortunate in that I have a brother in law who is both a collector and actively looks for things to buy and resell for his online business. My wife's directions are to give it all to him.
CANPRIME, thanks for the heads up on actionfigurenews.ca, nice thread to follow. It looks like there are more even heads posting over there. I look forward to all of the HASLABs and the forum talk, but since EoV, the negatives are far outweighing the positives here. 'The threading on the gloves is too thick, the pattern of the costume seems fake, his eyes are looking the wrong direction.." If you like it, buy it. If you don't, stop trying to talk everyone else into your decision. This is what ruins these campaigns. At some point, and I think this Giant Man figure is showing the progress, HASBRO is going to stop trying these and put the effort into something else to make the money. A failed HASLAB costs a lot of money. Maybe a drop in their bucket, but if they stop, then we, the collectors get nothing.
There won't be any bonus figures for Tiers, that's where they are at now. They are watching the boards, Ryan Ting popped in during Dave's Displaying Model Behaviors live stream of the launch. Hasbro is listening and watching. Keep complaining and see what's next, or keep putting out positive suggestions and see what's next. Hopefully Hasbro will focus on the positive instead of listening to the negatives.
No worries Niteowl.
I don't think the negativity has been that bad for Giant-Man. Yeah there is always a section of the fandom that is negative, but so far Giant-Man hasn't garnered the negativity of the EOV.
Frankly they showed their hand with Giant-Man. They got spooked by the EOV and how negative it went. Unfortunately they did what most companies do and over-corrected. There was no need to stop using figures as tiers, but price, and reaction to the figures in the EOV, lead them to swing wildly the other way.
Figures have been part of most Haslabs (where warranted) and they have their fair share of grumbling/complaints, but they didn't just stop adding them. For whatever reason, this time, the ML team decided they didn't want to put in figures as tiers. I personally think that it had more to do with the price than anything. They get to keep it below $200US (not really, c'mon $199.99 is $200). I think people would have been ok with up to $250 if they had included a couple of figures as tiers. I mean one of them could have even been a small (less than 6") figure since size changing is such a huge part of the character's history.
I also think this choice, above almost any other, had the opportunity to add figures to the tiers that the majority of collectors would probably have been fine with being "behind the paywall" of a Haslab. I mean Janet alone has to have had at least 50 different looks over the years, and Hank a couple dozen as well. They could have easily included some random (meaning not iconic) costumed look and collectors would have been, mostly, happy since it wouldn't have be a "must have" look for the characters. Of course there would still be complaints, but figures would have been included as tiers.
Either way they would have gotten grief so really it is a no win situation.
Oh and I will say this, Ryan seems to have calmed down a bit this time around. I found, in my opinion, him to be somewhat angry and combative during the EOV funding. At times I felt like he was talking at us, and taking things personally. I get it, when things are not going well it is frustrating. However that is the time to buckle down and do your best to keep on message. This time around he seems more mellow, which I guess is partly due to this doing fine so far, but also maybe they had a chat around how they wanted to present themselves this time around. He definitely has been out front more already (two different appearances on Youtuber streams).
The timing for Ryan has been great. First the pre-recorded reveal, followed directly by D23, then the interspersed YouTube appearances. Hopefully there will be more chances for him to interact with us besides PulseCon and NYCC. I'm enjoying his positive and lively discussions and appearances. With the YouTube stuff, maybe that means he, Dan and/or Dwight will be more visible and somewhat accessible with this.
Besides one poster on a FB page I follow that has asked why people have backed it and immediately calling them shills and a few YouTube influencers that seem almost ready to go into EOV fight mode really just to argue, everything else I've seen or read has been positive and/or a healthy debate. I know it's really early and we have a way to go, but hopefully the atmosphere will remain light, regardless of if someone backs Pym or not.

You can always donate stuff, or give it away. Granted it depends on whether or not it is loose, or boxed. Also whether or not it is appropriate to donate.
In reality though, the hard truth for all of us is that the work has to be put in for you to move stuff. The only "easy" way to get rid of stuff is to dump it, which is a problem on many different levels.
As others have said, I to have too much stuff. So I have been, SLOWLY (my fault), selling off stuff locally, and on the boards I frequent. Sometimes I even go the Kijiji route, and I did do one local collector show at the beginning of the year. Again we unfortunately have to put in the work to move product.
I will say this though. If you are serious about selling, then SELL!!! That means drop your prices to move stuff. I see so many people with thread titles like: "MUST SELL" or "HAVE TO MAKE ROOM" etc. Then you see their prices, or contact them about deals and they won't budge. Well that means you don't really have to sell, you just want to get a certain price.
That is fine, but expect to sit on product for a long time in that case. I recently sold a bunch of Transformers stuff, and most of it I sold below cost because I wanted it gone. Some stuff I sold for a tidy profit, but even then I sold it for less than what I could probably have gotten on Ebay. I wanted it gone, and the money was of greater value to me than the toys. And the space in the house too (haha).
Collectors get hung up on value/price, especially when it the stuff we own. However if you are going to sell, then sell and don't get super hung up on value/price, otherwise you won't be selling. Remember the rest of us know what something is usually going for on the secondary market, and are looking for deals, so adjust accordingly.
Also think about this. The vast majority of current/modern figures don't really hold their value in the long term. Yes some do, but that is the significantly smaller percentage compared to those that don't. Exclusivity helps, and there will always be "rare" toys, but time will kill the value of almost all of them. Think about ML alone. How many figures that were super expensive, are now almost worthless because a "better" version came along, or the ML team re-released a desired figure? Then considering the direction of the last couple posts who will want them in the coming decades? We are all getting older (I'm 50 in January) and it seems like most of us won't be collecting into our final years, and our families seemingly won't care. So who will be the buyers? Who will keep the value high in the long term?
Ugh, way to depress myself on a Sunday evening. Thankfully the NFL season has started again.
This is the community that keeps me coming back. Thanks.
Over 4000 backers so far, However it's coming rather slowly. Looks to me like collectors don't want the zombie face or the skrull head.
