I would think Hasbro would want to encourage second and third backers with something coming of actual comic zombies and not those crappy What If offerings and possibly the Skrull troop builders again or a box set with one of the original Pulse exclusives, a female using the new body from the Shield/Hydra and a bigger Skrull possibly using the old tired out Hyperion body. I'm on the fence right now of backing, not backing a second or third for that very reason.

@ibentmyman-thing I've seen some people seriously comparing it to those plastic halloween skeletons

Some specific thoughts:

The hyper-detailing of his costume with that pattern all over means he won't match aesthetically with all the smooth buck-bodied Avengers around him. That stitching on his helmet also looks way off compared to other figures in the line. He looks like Deadpool.

Also the grimacing face's eyes are painted to look up - wouldn't it make more sense if they were looking down? I know, he held Ultron up in the photos, but I'm gonna need him looking down, especially since a lot of shelves won't accommodate his arms up that much higher. Same with the smiling head - he's looking straight ahead but no one exists to match that eyeline. The photo of him with one leg up about to crunch someone looks real strange when his eyes are not looking that direction, because they are all painted oddly looking up.

The patterning of his shorts also seems wrong to me. These underoos rarely have patterns and this one is highly sculpted in a design that doesn't match the era of this costume or his other blue leather pieces. Gloves/boots are different than underwear but they should match - Janet would make sure.

Speaking of his waist - does anyone think he's missing like half an inch of height in the torso? Maybe I just have the BAF proportions burned into my head, but his lats are either too big/low or he needs a little bit more length to look right - I know that's a subjective term when it comes to bodies. Also, he's very flat from the side - he has no butt and his shoulders/pecs lack depth front and back. For a giant man he looks like he should be bulkier.

I really wish a 6" version of this outfit was included. I think then I would be totally onboard with this.

I’m sure there will be some hot takes coming out, thankfully the overall consensus seems to be much more reasonable this time around. I don’t think there will be a drastic swing against this project, because what is there to be upset about? You either want it or you don’t. Even the people who don’t like the price have suggested it would have been better to have it priced $25-$50 less, that’s not a radical difference. I don’t remember exactly what the MSRP was on Legends at the time of the original Giant-Man wave but it still added up to more than $100 to acquire all the pieces, plus the $850 dollars in gas you spent trying to find them.

...it’s possible we will see several parts of this body reused, possibly not even as part of a Haslab. So much of the initial investment is required to make this the first time, so a future offering of Goliath or someone similar could be cheaper because a lot less is required to make it.

One reason I was hoping for an 18" figure was I thought that size was more feasible for reuse for either Bill Foster or Clint Goliath, or both, as a Pulse exclusive in the future. Less convinced that may happen at 24".

But I highly doubt they would sell a Goliath based on this buck for less than the initial HasLab price.

This shows Giant-Man's progress as compared to other Haslabs.

https://geekdadlife.com/2023/09/marvel-legends-giant-man-haslab-tracking-by-brian-brink/

Do we know what day of the week each HasLab launched?

I wonder if it makes a difference if a campaign launches towards the beginning or middle of the week versus at the start of a weekend.

Giant-Man:

3,892 / 10,000 (+568) 38.92% of funding goal with 43d 17h left.

Nice second day bump let's see how it goes.

I did briefly consider if I could display him horizontally, laying on its side kind of propped up on his elbow and one knee up, but might look too much like a beefcake pose... But if I could have it so it looked like he was doing that to hear Cap's instructions as part of a group discussion... same with the kneeling pose.

I got the Three zero 1/6 scale Ultraman and had him in this pose. It was fun, but ate up a lot of shelf real estate.

Along these lines I've been thinking the same. Definitely will need to find a pose that brings the height down a bit.

My dilemma is that I want to back this HasLab, but even if I do, the Toy Biz BAF would still be my Giant-Man of choice.  At 57, I’m on the downside of my lifespan as an adult collector.  I don’t mean that in a sad, depressing way.  I’m just being practical.   I need to start downsizing, and as cool as this Giant-Man HasLab is, a figure that takes up that much display/storage space just doesn’t make sense at this point in my life, especially when the Toy Biz BAF is half the size and is still one of my all-time favorite Marvel Legends.

In other words, I’m still trying to talk myself out of it.   😛

I think, honestly, that a figure in place of the existing tiers would perform better.

Something like one tier at 13,000 with a Janet?

Preferably an early costume to match the vibe.

Like I said, first appearance Janet technically has a number of differences from Avengers #1 Janet. Reversed boot direction, blue gloves, headset. And those early appearance Wasp wings fluctuated between blue tinted, pink tinted, and clear.

IMHO, Avengers #1 Janet is the one that should be saved for retail. 9 times out of 10, it's used as a "first appearance" costume.

Similar to how Hasbro's "First Appearance" GOTG are from their second appearance. They had more generic sci-fi outfits in their first appearance. Likewise, when most people talk about the FF's original costumes, they mean blue and black, not magenta jumpsuits. For me, any of those "prototype" looks would probably be a miss at retail unless you couldn't do their actual first super-hero costumes. But perfect for a Haslab.

If they did a Haslab around the FF movie, I'd want Giganto's upper torso articulated and the FF in magenta jumpsuits. Then for tiers, you could have power based accessories.

A flaming flight stand for Johnny.

An invisible lower torso for Sue.

Stretching arms for Reed.

And maybe a flamed down Johnny in jumpsuit.

I'm in on this no matter what, so of course I want more figures as tiers instead of extra heads that I will, frankly, never use. But I get the decision not to add figures after last year, because even if they were completely on theme - FA Wasp, a 6" version of the Giant-Man costume, Jarvis, etc - people who didn't want the main offering would feel put out by "having to" drop $200 for the figures they wanted. I'd have been more than happy for $250 + 2-3 additional figures as tiers, but I don't think they made the wrong call here.

I really hope we've got a classic/retro Wasp waiting to be shown at PulseCon. There's zero reason not to show her off now to get people hyped about pairing her with Giant-Man. Inevitably there will be complaints that she should have just been included as part of the Haslab and Hasbro is being greedy yadda yadda, but I think most people will just be glad to know she's coming.

@h-bird Yes, definitely hope that we get a new Wasp figure soon. Her first costume would be great. I’d also love to get her gold and black moon on an updated body.

I might be alone on this, but I loved her black and gold dress-style costume from Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The dress made her silhouette look like her namesake.

CANPRIME, thanks for the heads up on actionfigurenews.ca, nice thread to follow.  It looks like there are more even heads posting over there.  I look forward to all of the HASLABs and the forum talk, but since EoV, the negatives are far outweighing the positives here.  'The threading on the gloves is too thick, the pattern of the costume seems fake, his eyes are looking the wrong direction.."  If you like it, buy it.  If you don't, stop trying to talk everyone else into your decision.  This is what ruins these campaigns.   At some point, and I think this Giant Man figure is showing the progress, HASBRO is going to stop trying these and put the effort into something else to make the money.  A failed HASLAB costs a lot of money.  Maybe a drop in their bucket, but if they stop, then we, the collectors get nothing.

There won't be any bonus figures for Tiers, that's where they are at now.   They are watching the boards, Ryan Ting popped in during Dave's Displaying Model Behaviors live stream of the launch.  Hasbro is listening and watching.  Keep complaining and see what's next, or keep putting out positive suggestions and see what's next.   Hopefully Hasbro will focus on the positive instead of listening to the negatives.

i'm still of the feeling that not having figures be the extra tiers was a very very smart choice. and i'm pretty sure Wasp will have a figure coming in the next year just like we got a heralds 2-pack to go with Galactus.

good start, hope it gets funded for those interested.

am still hoping for a more modest Giant-Man or Goliath at some point but no big deal, i generally prefer Pym as Ant-Man instead anyhow.
