He looks nice but Hasbro made this one an easy pass.
I think $200 for a 2-foot tall basic figure is pretty steep. Whether you like or don't like tiered figures in a campaign, they add value to the overall package. Extra heads I would never use do not.
This is pretty basic math, but a 6-inch figure is $25 β something four times the size comes out at eight times the cost? (Like I said, it's basic but you know what I mean ...)Β
Β
Β
Exactly, people jumping up and down clapping at Hasbro's $200 Giant Man doesn't realize they are still overpaying. Perceived value is a real thing.
Β
Β
LOL, basic math is going to fail you 100% of the time when trying to figure out rhyme or reason for Hasbro's pricing.

We're ALL overpaying for action figures. Even the $25 ones. That's just how this hobby is.Β
Β
Β
Then I would have to ask what is the point in making a slight variation the top tier incentive of a backer funded project. Third tier goals should be the quirky extra, not something that would piss people off. Plus, there's no single carded FA Wasp on the horizon, so if they show her as a tier in the next month, that'll most likely cause a drop in backers if anything out of sheer rage.
Β
Β
You should ask Hasbro, because they did this exact tactic with Mickey Mouse Cobra Commander in the HISS Tank Haslab. I don't hate it really, if we have figures in a Haslab and it's a unique character, a minor variant of what we get in mainline is okay by me.
Β
I still just wish I could get Morg or Nova at retail. If a Haslab requires a bonus figure, something with a minor variant we can get at mainline is perfectly fine.
Β
I could see it with that example, people already have that figure in (and I'm not sure about this because I don't collect Joes full time) 3 different deco's?
It's different with a figure that's long demanded and hasn't seen an announcement or retail confirmation.

You were so close. "Perceived value is a real thing."
Some people think this is overpriced, others think it's a deal. Again, perceived value.
Β
This is a great price for a massive, super-articulated figure. Lots of normal-sized 6β scale figures from other lines, like imports, are hitting very high prices these days. Storm Collectible figures are $80-$130 each. Mafex is over $100 each.Β
Giant-Man feels like a great deal to me. And he looks fun. Look at ShootingtheGalaxyβs photo of Hank ripping Ultron apart!Β

Β
I guarantee that there was just as much plastic and tooling costs put into this as 8 regular figures. Tooling of the articulation in the hands alone might have cost as much as the tooling for a normal wave of figures. Besides that I'm willing to bet that standard 6" figures aren't still selling for only $25 anymore by the time this comes out next year either.
Β
I do wonder, as I do with all Haslabs, if it was mass produced and sold in store, what could this price get down to?Β I'm guessing considerably less.

First, you'd have to find a brick and mortar store willing to stock it and buy enough inventory to make it worth Hasbro's while. Clearly there's not interest in that from the Targets and Walmarts of the world and there's likely not any other retailer (outside of Amazon, which is online only) that would ever buy enough to make it worthwhile for them.
I live in a town of about 80,000 people (in a county of about 750,000) and I know that my Walmart barely carries any Hasbro product anymore. I haven't seem them stock ANY Legends since the Black Panther Legacy wave well over a year ago. Target seems to be very selective about what Hasbro product they order. My Target has only stocked 2 of the last 6 Legends waves choosing to skip all of the BAF waves. The last BAF wave they had was the Infinity Ultron wave. They ordered a ton of the Avengers 60th anniversary stuff and I can't tell that any of it has sold after several weeks on the shelves. The recent retro carded Spider-man wave with Chasm and Rose sold out in less than a week, however.

Here we go again!
I think the figure looks fantastic but I'll be passing because of space - I'm STILL trying to find a safe/convenient home for Galactus and the Sentinel. Relieved I won't be missing out on any 6-inch characters. (Those tend to be what pushes me over the edge on something I don't necessarily know I want to back, but I think it was a smart marketing move on their part to not do that this time around).Β
Very happy for the Pym fans - this dude looks amazing. I'm personally relieved I can take a campaign off though without a ton of FOMO. (Maybe I'll use the break to find somewhere Galactus can stand in my office without scaring the dog.)Β

There should be some current market comparisons.Β I know NECA is still cranking out their 1/4 scale figures that range from 12" to 18" for $120 MSRP.Β If anyone can think of others closer to 24 inches please do share.
Just that comp alone suggests the price on this isn't much different.Β The two hands alone add something like $30 to $50 above the cost of the completely unarticulated hands we usually get with action figures.
Β
I'm kinda the opposite - I'm not excited entirely because of the lack of 6" figures. Bastion was one of my most wanted characters. Nova was the reason I got Galactus. Hoping Robbie will find his way into the next Avengers wave (with that unmasked head!) and I very, very much want Hasbro to release that Goblin Queen head/hair somewhere because that looks like the Phoenix head I want.
But this time it's just... Giant-Man.

No kidding.Β Β Gotta love how some people feel their opinion is the only one that matters and anyone with a different opinion is a sucker.Β Β Perceived value?Β Everything you buy is a matter of what you value.Β Β Doesn't make you better or worse to value things differently.
Perhaps there's a silver lining for this figure being so large.Β Maybe something smaller is still feasible (or even being planned) at retail or Fan Channel.Β Β Maybe we can still get 12-15" figures at retail for $50-100.Β
