ok... for collectors who were not able to back Giant Man what's the best option for Hank in your collection?
ok I know the default answer is the ToyBiz BAF but what if he's not an option (still expensive in my country). I'm thinking of just getting the Marvel Universe Goliath figure (blue and yellow) since my favorite Avengers story of all time is "Avengers Forever" and that's his costume in that arc. But a part of me still wants a red colored one. Should I hunt for the SDCC or just the red variant of the Goliath costume (was that suit even iconic? not sure).
Don't want to settle with his Ant-Man figure just yet 😀

If the TB BAF isn't an option, then maybe this one from the pre-ML Toybiz Avengers #1 box set. He's standing around a bunch of 4" figures here, so he's only going to be a little taller than your 6" MLs.
There's a Goliath version of that figure as well. I always liked that set.

I think the rumor is that Hasbro will release a 6" Giant Man next year. Personally, I prefer Ant Man over Giant Man, but once I get my Giant Man, Ant Man will just become Scott Lang.
I wonder what Hasbro’s takeaway from the Ghostbusters Haslab funding so quickly when Giant Man struggled. Same 10,000 backers needed but $100 more and it hit the goal in 3 days. Which is interesting since the Ghosbusters figures didn’t seem to do as well as normal ML figures. Maybe Ghosbusters is a better role play license for them than figures? Wonder if that will convince them to shift to role play for the next Marvel Haslab?

Just a nitpick--the old Avengers box set figures are 5 inch figures not 4 inch.

Ghost Busters is definitely a roleplay popular franchise. Go to any convention and you'll see multiple GB cosplays.
It hasn't been that successful for toys since the cartoon line. Im definitely shocked that it funded so quickly though.
Are there any Marvel role-play items that would make sense for Haslab?

If I was a roll play guy I think I'd be into that. That looks like a high-quality offering.
I think Ghostbusters has an edge over Marvel in role play items. Anyone going as any Ghostbuster wants a Proton Pack, Trap, PKE Meter, etc. Marvel Cosplayers all require different items. Granted some are more popular than others, but there are many Cap shields and Mjolnir's available. Now, a working web shooter at $500? People would eat that up.
If I didn’t back Giant Man, Target Ant Man is exactly what I’d be using as a substitute. I would only be displaying Giant Man with the appropriate Avengers of that time period. So specifically, I’d be using 80th Thor, 20th Cap, 20th Iron Man, the upcoming FA Wasp. Maybe I’d include 80th Hulk. Even more maybe I’d include the rest of Cap’s Kooky Quartet, retro Scarlet Witch, 3pk Quicksilver, 60th Hawkeye. Maybe the Void wave Vision. I associate both Giant Man and Ant Man with that early Avengers era, though I could probably sub in Goliath (6” from the Ant Man SDCC set, or the Marvel Universe Goliath).

TBH, I don't think there is anything for the Marvel Team to learn from the GB Haslab. Its a totally different item with a totally different audience. If the GB Haslab was a figure or some kind, I doubt we woukd see what we saw.
GB fans are willing to spend a lot for screen accurate props. Manh Legends fans are fed up with price hikes and are pretty sour on Hasbro. Sometimes it feels like people are buying Legends purely out of habit, not because they want to.
I look at figures like Black Widow and Extremis Iron Man, and the fact that you are under less and less obligation to buy full waves with the prevalence of retro cards... and wonder how a section of Legends collectors got so negative. There have been so many high quality offerings that are phenomenal to anyone who has been collecting Legends for the last 12-15 years. Are there some duds? Absolutely. But we have also been getting some of the best figures Legends have had to offer.
@enforcer Totally agree. ML is better than ever. So many fantastic figures like Extremis Iron Man, Black Widow, classic Ultron, Modular Armor Iron Man, Destroyer Armor, and so many great MCU figures.
I think Hasbro has been really doing a great job with the A-list heroes lately. So many fantastic figures of Iron Man, Spider-Man, Captain America, and perfect versions of Wolverine.
And beautiful head sculpts and face printing like for Widow, Mockingbird, Clea, Quake, and Silk.
Plus such a wide variety of both classic and modern characters who really build out the entire Marvel Universe like Egghead, Molecule Man, and Mindless Ones, and even extra obscure but fun stuff like Detroit Steel!
It is such a fun time to be a collector, in my opinion.
@akatsuki if I had to guess, the most vocal of disenchanted collectors tend to be on the younger side - they haven't yet gotten the job/career which easily allows for enough disposable income where a Legends purchase isn't a significant blow to the wallet. I feel for that as a full set of Legends back in the early days was just over a hundred bucks, which wasn't a small amount at the time (this was Canadian). No one who is old enough to have been collecting Legends since the beginning would look at the most recent Caps and Spider-Men and think we're in the dark days of Legends. No one. The cost is going up for sure, and it's nice when we get a bunch of extra accessories to offset a little of the sting. But because a release subjectively doesn't include enough to justify the price in someone's mind doesn't mean the line is dying. As always, for people who feel upset every time they buy a new Legends because it doesn't completely satisfy them given the higher cost... just gotta ask yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze. There are so many great toy lines out there. Every single one produces duds or questionable decision making. Frankly, I can't see Legends ever ending simply because it's the last and only thing i collect. It won't let me go lol
@enforcer and @akatsuki If the question is why are there more people disenchanted with ML, I can only give you my reasons. For each of these I could offer multiple examples, but in the interest of length, I'll leave that out.
More reuse, higher cost
Nickel and diming
Low-effort releases (ie, a couple of fists, little to no paint apps)
I personally think these issues are becoming and more the rule rather than the exception. Yes, they'll do the occasional really good figure, (I love the latest Black Widow) but there's a ton of mediocrity in between. I just don't feel we are getting the maximum effort for our dollar for the vast majority of the releases and as such, they don't feel like "adult collectibles" to me. $30 and 20 points of articulation don't automatically equal adult collectible. There has to be the visible extra effort.
I look at the Toybiz MLs and the last couple of years of Hasbro MLs and I honestly think Toybiz is the better line. Yes they are "dated", but look at the stuff they were TRYING to do in those days. They were pushing the boundaries of what action figures could be AT THE TIME. Hasbro is pushing no boundaries today. Today they're settling. They are settling for the bucks they already have, they are settling for no paint, they are settling for bare minimum accessories, charging the maximum, and calling it all good.
Again, there's some good stuff that occasionally comes from ML, but the above is the reason my buying has gone way, way down.
