Dan Yun is on Unparalleled Universe. He just said he only slept one hour last night because he sat on the Haslab page refreshing it over and over.
… and Dan confirmed he gets messages from people saying they hope it fails and that he, Ryan & Dwight get fired.
Not surprising but still infuriating. Imagine sending threatening messages to someone over toys.
nothing can ruin this mood right now.
High Five Everyone
Someone made a good point I didn't consider. There may be so few Giant Man on the secondary market. I could possible trade one for a Sentinel....hmmmmmmm.
Everyone who backed this is now a pathetic Hasbro bootlicker whether you like it or not.
Welcome to the family.
During the Toy Biz days I can bet that Wave 10 BAF Sentinel was the most popular of the 16 set series. Giant Man was after the Build A Figure MODOK in wave 16.
Because Giant Man was a Wal-Mart Exclusive (and comic book store exclusive).. you literally had to buy a full sealed case of 12 to build the Giant Man.
The secondary market for Giant Man and Fing Fang Foom are so high because of the scarcity of product. Thats what I refer to as the dark days for Legends. Much like Marvel back in the 90s, Toy Biz encountered some financial difficulties and as a result fewer products made it to retailer shelfs.
Toys R Us did get the Giant Man BAF wave but it was extremely hard to complete one if you didnt place a preorder.
That being said, I think its gonna be relatively easy to trade a Giant Man for a Galactus or Sentinel down the line due to scarcity. I've kept one set in a sealed case box. I've sold off the rest.
Really happy for the win for Dan, Ryan and Dwight. They needed this one and this Legends team has kept me interested even when the prices got all wonky.
I'd like to second this! They're good guys and I'm very happy for them. They deserved this.
See you next summer in San Diego, lads!
HUZZAH!
I was working all day, so couldn't really interact, but been following the campaign and refreshing the count and this thread constantly. Exciting!
I was pretty sure that if Hank got a little momentum, say, to 8000, and it looked like it was possible that he would/could exist, all the fence-sitters (and yes, even the nay-sayers) would feel forced to jump on. No one wants to miss the bandwagon if it is actually driving by...
Case in point: last year's EoV base offering I had NO interest in-- don't know that iteration of Ghost Rider, and am not a car guy-- but I did like and want the tier figures, and enjoyed following the campaign. If it had gotten a couple thousand away from funding, I probably would have broken down and bought in. But because the campaign went negative and never got past 6000, it didn't have a hope in, uh, hell. When I knew no one was getting it, it didn't bother me as much.
In Giant-Man's case, it just took enough of a push, to get him to start like a snowball rolling down a hill.
Now let's see those tiers!
Now I'm the opposite. I have a very specific era of Marvel I collect as my main collection and it's around 1968 to 1972.
I didn't really want this Hank. I thought it looked like a well made toy at a good value and I wanted to see it fund to make sure we'd get Yellowjacket and Wasp, hopefully a Clint Barton. (We saw with the EoV that they stopped those retro cards from continuing when it failed.)
I'm financially a bit tight and I want to crowdfund Ramen's sewer dio next month.
But I definitely wanted to make sure this was a success before I backed out because even one reversal during a lull can spook the cattle.
I haven't definitely decided to back out but I wanted to keep support up before deciding what to do. I'll be thinking over the next 2 hours and definitely won't pull out until the first Tier is secured.
Like I say: it's a cool figure that would be the wrong Hank for me. On the off chance that this was going to be at 10,001 or even 10,100 at the end, I was willing to back.
The closer it gets to 14,000, the more I feel like it's no longer about signaling solidarity or rewarding Hasbro for doing something good and more about whether I'd want to be $200 lighter for a figure that isn't what I collect. It looks like other people have jumped in and now it can go back to just being a question of whether I want something nice but that I wouldn't display because I'd have a different Hank Pym out.
The real main difference in BAF completion back in the day is you couldn’t just jump online necessarily and order a full wave in one go. You had to go hunt that thing paleo style.

Dwight, Dan and Ryan will have good jobs for as long as they want them. The creatures issuing the death threats live in their mommy's basement.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Now it's time to celebrate!
I live in my own basement. Proud home owner.
