@derrabbi

Doom is my favorite villain of all time.  So Hasbro will never be off the hook until they deliver a classic Doctor Doom faithful to his most iconic look.

As Doom would say, "What is taking so long Cretins!"

@puckace Just curious, what do you feel is off about the retro card Doom (or the Cabal 3-pack Doom) that makes it non-iconic? I find most of the Doom appearances over the years look more or less alike to me, with differences being more artistic license than costume variants.

Air-Walker was destroyed again, though, and his consciousness was absorbed into Galactus’ ship. But don’t worry again, because he was rebuilt one more time to fight in the Annihilation Wave, where he, uh, he got killed.

As Doom would say, "What is taking so long Cretins!"

it upsets me that they and half their audience think they’ve done a classic Doom. I mean how careless is that?

@fac The classic armor they did is literally a suit of Medieval armor. It has a chain mail undercoating, straps that connect pieces, separate plated greaves, etc. Doom's armor is classically represented as a suit of power armor that visually references Medieval armor but is more akin to Iron Man's armor than Henry VIII's armor. It seals under water and in space. Things of that sort; it isn't segmented plate armor. If they presented as like Doom's ceremonial armor that might even work for me. I'd display one Doom on the general villains shelf and one on the FF one. If they had gone that route I probably would have made more changes. Give him like a fur rimmed collar; keep the ornate cape clasps, etc on that version.

ugh. Upset I forgot Quasimodo.

@derrabbi Interesting. I get your point, I guess I like the visual of the more "Medieval" armor but hadn't really considered it undermined the tech nature/cleaner lines of his armor as first drawn.

Now I am not sure I believe that Kirby or Buscema or Romita weren't going for Medieval but their art wasn't detailed enough to do it right, so that the intent was always Medieval style... Given the low-key mask with the "rivets", not sure Doom wasn't trying for the ancient armor look either.

But fine by me if they make a "classic" version of course...

I don't know how to post images here so I can't show you.

Basically, I want a Doom that looks more like what Jack Kirby drew.  Hasbro hasn't really done his armor that way.  It is more of a modern sculpt with costume and other add ons like the belt to try to make it look close enough to a classic Doom.  The face sculpt is also not really the Kirby/original look.  Close but no cigar.

I do like the Doom's we have gotten, but they aren't the definitive look I'm waiting for.

Fac if you Google Kirby Doctor Doom and check out the images you can see some of the looks I'm talking about.  There is also a picture of the ML retro Doom to compare to some of the art shown.

Edit: What derrabbi said so well.

@puckace Yeah, I went back and looked at the Kirby and even the Byrne art and totally get what you and @derrabbi are saying about the armor, even if I hadn't really noticed it myself.

I honestly think the more detailed style looks better as a figure, but I also get that when a look is off compared to what you think the source material demands, it is frustrating (for me it's the hair on the Excalibur Kitty Pryde), so I fully support your quest for a "classic" Doom.

Absolutely!  Need Kitty with her correct hair.

Love the Byrne Doom as well!

What makes the classic Doom situation extra irritating is that they already have a lot of the parts there with Ultron. We're asking for a SIMPLER figure and they haven't done it yet.

Because NO ONE demanded it, or cares - this is my Top 10 list!

#1.) CLASSIC DOCTOR DOOM

I agree with what others have said, I don't think Hasbro has really nailed the "classic" Doom look yet and I'd love to see darker greens on the tunic and hood, the brown belt with yellow buckle, and some "Kirby crackle" energy effects for his hands.

#2.) TO #5.) MIKE WIERINGO ART-BASED FANTASTIC FOUR

#6.) FANTASTIC FOUR UNIFORM SHE-HULK

#7.) MOLE MAN

#8.) PUPPET MASTER

#9.) 1995 "OPERA GLOVES" UNIFORM INVISIBLE WOMAN

#10.) FANTASTIC FOUR JUMPSUIT THING

Honorable mentions go to the Wizard, Diablo, Trapster and Alicia Masters, who just barely didn't make my Top 10.  I also wouldn't mind a new Mr. Fantastic in his F.F. suit with the brown vest and some updated, non-exclusive figures of the Fantastic Four in their classic Jack Kirby costumes.  I admit, I don't remember who Quasimodo is, but he looks cool and I wouldn't mind buying him as a figure.

Crystal would have been my #1 here if we weren't already going to be getting her very soon.

After X-Men, Avengers and Spider-Man I feel like this is the last group that I could probably do any type of real Top 10 or so for because I limit myself to only characters that have never been made before in the line. I'll never ask for another version of a character that I already own. In my opinion, we get too many of those already.

1. Alicia Masters

2. Gorgon (the Inhuman)

3. Triton

4. Wizard

5. Mad Thinker

6. Trapster

7. Maker

8. Puppet Master

9. Wyatt Wingfoot

10. Red Ghost

11. Lyja

12. Diablo

I'm gonna get to this list, but mine won't have any of the core 4 in it. I've got all of those I need. 3 different sets is fine.

...Well Future Foundation... Crap, that run was great. Maybe one more set with Spidey.
