Can I share something private with you all?
As much as I love Hickman's FF run, I wish I liked the Future Foundation costumes more. I think they're overdesigned (too many black lines) and I hate Thing's tank top.
I have no interest whatsoever in the Future Foundation outfits. Easy pass.
I love the idea of pairing a classic member of the Frightful Four (Wizard, PPP/Trapster, Medusa, Sandman (green costume) with a member of the FF. However, I'd be pretty salty if they used the Future Foundation or other modern/contemporary iteration of the Fantastic Four.
That's fair... but Wizard was also part of the Future Foundation storyline. He'd still work paired with Reed. And any of the following could work paired with the Future Foundation costumes since they appeared during that run Diablo, Mad Thinker, Immortus, Mole Man, Maximus, Annihilus, Supreme Intelligence, Blastaar
But given that Wizard, Mad Thinker, Diablo and Mole Man made numerous appearances in the first 12 issues of the Hickman FF run in the white costumes, pair them up with the team and put Spider-Man and Future Foundation Doom together in a pack to round it out.
Then cycle back to do your other Frightful Four members in their more classic Frightful Four looks paired with classic FF members in blue and white costumes - Reed and Sandman, Sue and Trapster, Johnny and Medusa if you want... and then keep going we still need Attuma, Blastaar, Maximus, Immortus, Rama Tut... there's so much to do
I honestly find it interesting how opposed some people seem to be to the Future Foundation outfits. Sure they were a departure - but I found it somewhat refreshing after 50+ years in the the same blue jammies.
And we have had figures over and over and over again in those blue costumes. Are people really clamoring for another set of Fantastic Four in the classic blue? I mean besides Aleks... They did the Walgreen's exclusives, they did the retro wave. I'm sure they'll get to them again... but if you want me to buy the same character again, put him in different clothes at least. Give me something different than you've already done.
I see, thanks for the info, PC. Personally, I'm coming from a "haven't read any FF comics since 2007" perspective, so I have zero familiarity with any of the costumes (or storylines) that came after, thus I'd be chagrined by tethering these versions to classic villains. If they are single carded, win/win for everyone. I'm not wanting a redo of costumes we've already got.
Diablo, Mad Thinker, Immortus, Mole Man, Maximus, Annihilus, Supreme Intelligence, Blastaar, Wizard, Mad Thinker, Diablo and Mole Man.
I'm sure a lot of people on this forum cares more about characters, not how good action figure is. "We need to complete the team". "I always wanted this character".
You also need to think about normies, who don't really know much about Fantastic Four other than some movies and Dr. Doom. These people only want the core characters, not fucking Mad Thinker. And to be honest, a lot of F4 villains are too wierd...Psycho-Man is a cool character and a good figure. Didn't sell well and I can buy one for 6$ even now...Do I want them? Sure. Will they sell? Probably not. Certainly not in the two packs. And that Punisher set - 99% buy it because of the Punisher. You do this thing with another F4 team - they're all going to be on sale.
Because:

Remember, Dan already said - F4 retro wave didn't sell well. Same with that "Avengers Anniversary line", when they put a bunch of crappy figures and reuse parts. It was their fault, but I doubt they'll repeat it.
They are all kinda crap now...except the Thing. Do I want the updated versions of these figures? Yes. Do I want them in another wave without the necessary accessories because budget or something? No. Do I want them in a two pack with another F4 Villain...sure. But some other people don't, since they already have the old figures.

Thats why one big set for the whole F4 team is a best solution. And you can give Reed his stretchy arms and legs. Give something different.

As for Villains - they can put them in their modern "Wave of everything". We had X-Men characters, Ultimate Iron Man, even Cortez. Sure they can put Diablo or Wizard too.

Here's the thing... I actually don't think that Hasbro has to think that hard about "normies" anymore with their comic based offerings for their Marvel Legends line. I just don't. They already send most of their comic only product to Fan Channel and On-line Retail. With that distribution model you don't have to concern yourself overmuch with what the random non-fan might buy. And stop pretending that the reason the FF wave failed is exclusively because people don't like or know the Fantastic Four. It is clear and has been stated that the FF Retro wave was produced at the height of the Covid bubble based on unsustainable stimulus spending numbers. It was overproduced significantly because between the time the order was placed and the time the figures hit store shelves the economy had changed and people's spending habits were different and they were no longer going to splurge on the minor Fantastic Four villain figure. The FF Retro Wave was not the only product effected by this - but it is definitely one of the poster children for the phenomenon because of its release timing. Basing future decisions about FF figure release on the sales of that wave under their new market strategy would be foolish.

You can still find a lot of retro F4 figures there though. Not selling. Sure, Hasbro don't, but these Fan Channels might (exсept Amazon...they take fucking everything). I just don't think four two packs or F4 wave is a way to go.
Villains - in norman wave. F4 Team as a set. Everyone's happy.
Yes, thats said...Some of Hasbro team comments on sales are very important. Dan comments about Avengers line, etc. When Unparalleled Universe asked him about possibility getting more F4 Waves and characters, Dan wasn't optimistic...

I get that - unless the movie is a smash hit. If the movie hits big it erases a lot of those concerns is what I'm saying. If the movie flops - or even is just a tad underwhelming in terms of box office - then I agree, Hasbro will likely stay cold shoulder on any future FF comic waves. But if the movie is this year's Barbie... I think maybe they change their tune a little.
Also, Psycho Man and High Evoutionary were brand-new, good sculpts - but they just feel small. It may be just a few millimeters, but that tiny issue really can impact sales. If non-A List characters aren't knockouts, or have the trademark Hasbro One Obvious Flaw - they will not sell.
I think there’s a lot of overestimation for how well this movies going to do in this thread.
I’d love more F4 villains. Wizard, Diablo, Blastaar. But in all honestly, would I trade them all for a completely newly sculpted Kirby/Byrne style Thing?
Yes. Yes I would.

I would absolutely love to have an accurately scaled Kirby/Perez/Byrne Thing figure. I'd even buy all 3 if they were to make them. However, at this point I don't see it ever actually happening.
Well I think your idea is horrible and boring so I guess its a tie <shrug>
I'm sure a lot of people on this forum cares more about characters, not how good action figure is...That's why you have a lot of Mcfarlane collectors "eating" all those "amazing" DC figures from Todd. That's why people are willing to buy some horrible ML figures too.
"We need to complete the team". "I always wanted this character". "We already have this team! Give us something new!"
Drives me nuts. I'm a toy guy, yeah I love(d) comics but the potential of this and other comic lines are often hampered by lists of characters fans want and too many don't go for cool looking toys. McFarlane DID and people bitched....now that line is phoned in junk, but hey character selection! 😕
Anyway, if you're doing a boxset just go with Mezco. I suggest a Maximum Reed to make the best of him then maybe slowly do the team that way (?) Don't get me wrong, I do value characters like FF rogues very much, I just think the team proper needs priority again. Maybe not Thing, he's great.
And he's also the only one not easily available at MSRP right now so he should be the first one made available again.
I don't remember an era of McFarlane Multiverse that wasn't plagued by the same bad design choices that continue to plague them to this day.

I don't really want to spend 400$ (or even more now) for some Mezco figures. Can't really mix them with ML, don't like the look.
I Also don't think Maximum is a way to go for F4. Who will pay 50$ or more for Reed, Sue or Human Torch? Previous versions went on sale. Thing may sell, but the rest...eh, I doubt. They are kinda like TMNT. You want the whole team as a set. And it's a good opportunity to put all the accessories you need. If you already have a previous team and are happy with it, you can skip this.
But who knows what Hasbro will do. I, honestly, doubt we see another F4 comic figures any time soon.
This makes me hate myself, but I admit I’m at the point now where I’d buy a movie figure line if it meant a classic comic Air-Walker was the BaF. 🙁 I’m so tired of him missing from my Galactus/Heralds display.
