Got Deadpool and Wolverine in from BBTS today. They're a bit of a mixed bag for me. Deadpool is a good figure, not much different from previous releases in terms of engineering, and I like that older release. I wish he had more hands (hate the lack of vertical hinged gripping hands so they're useless to me) and that he had something added to take away the very plastic look of the red. I like the brighter Deadpool & Wolverine costume, but the figure looks really cheap.
Wolverine suffers from the same, though the yellow is worse than the red in that regard. I feel like the legs could have been sculpted better to create a more baggy look, which might have alleviated the wide hips issue he's sporting. The shoulder joints are junk. If the shoulder pads were on pegs or hinges it might have saved them, but as-is they stink. His head is also too big and I think his chest and arms should be a little bigger. What saves the release, and is the reason why I bought it, is that the unmasked portrait looks great. Damn fine likeness of Jackman that I think will be hard to top. He could use a more pissed off expression, but I bet that's coming with the eventual bare arms re-release. The masked portrait also looks pretty good, but I'll probably never use it since we never saw him with sleeves and the mask in the film.
His shoulders are definitely disappointing and the pad engineering was definitely done to spite collectors - when is the last time they had such visible non-body like plugs like that? The overall proportions are so 3D render - a re-release would be better with more than just arm and paint alterations.
Deadpool definitely should be taller.
I'm looking forward to the Wolverine. However, one of the reviewers I frequents says don't buy it, it's garbage. Another reviewer I frequent says he loves it. Man o man, what's a guy to do with his $25?
It's a rhetorical question, I'm locked in on this guy. The gripes the former reviewer has don't bug me much......and the wife wants him on her work desk.
The unmasked portrait is probably doing some heavy lifting on those who love the figure. Claws turned out pretty well too.
Hasbro better not screw up the 2nd Wolverine release. Bare arms and the should pads are a separate piece that the arm peg goes through - exactly like the 10 Anniversary Iron Man mk 3.
There's so many recipes on YouTube for a bare arms Wolverine mod that it's a bit humorous. I don't know how confident I am that Hasbro will actually do a bare arm version. I remember everyone was sure they would do so with Love and Thunder Thor......Then if they DO, what will the trade off be? Meaning, what will they leave out or do "wrong" so as to not give us the best Wolverine they can? No doubt a company like Mafex will give us maximum value and just give us swappable arms.

True - but every single recipe isn't exactly a home run because no existing arms match the articulation scheme. Every mod I've seen involves tape or clay on the end of the peg, and it just pops out. Hasbro is capable of the odd slam dunk (Final Swing Holland) - and this one is a new arm peg, shoulder pad part, and a decent wash away from pretty great (leg complaints aside).
The odds are better because everywhere I look online Wolverine and Deadpool are selling out. The movie made over a billion. It's a no brainer. Thor was pretty much regarded as a financial failure, not well received, and the wave sold poorly, if I recall correctly. Most of it ended up deeply discounted.
Gambit. Blade and Elektra and *maybe* Johnny would also be solid bets. Just hopefully not after several years like Electro and Lizard.
For some reason, I dunno, I'm feelin' pretty doom'n'gloomy today, and so my pessimism says we've gotten all the Deadpool & Wolverine figures we're gonna.

D&W made a lot more money than L&T did. It also looks like the merch for it has been super popular. I would be shocked if more figures didn't come

One might argue that you could do a whole wave of characters from the movie. The ones you listed, X-23, Nova, combined with what we already got.....that's at least ten figures that could easily make up a wave. But they just.....don't want to, I guess. Just release them in drips and drabs.
I'll be pretty surprised if Hasbro doesn't do a bare arms version of Wolverine. They, like any action figure producer, love getting more use out of a set of tools and most of the existing figure is likely to be repurposed for that release. It's a pretty classic sales tactic: release the less desirable version first which will likely get a few people who prefer the other version to buy it anyway (raises hand), then come back with the one everyone wants and make even more money. Right now, they just have to put a little buffer in between the release of the first figure and the announcement of a second because if we knew the better version was coming in six months then a bunch of us would likely hold off on buying the existing figure.

While all of that is true what is more often true with MCU characters is that Marvel changed the character later during a film's development so that should be the first guess. All of the promo images I saw of Wolverine the year before development had him with sleeves, and that's the same art that Marvel most likely gave to Hasbro.
Or maybe you're right and there is early concept art of him being sleeveless. If anyone has seen him sleeveless in concept art please do share.
That's certainly possible, but I think part of the design of the costume for the movie was to gradually get to that more comic look. Start with the yellow and blue, then drop the sleeves, then hit them with the cowl, so I don't think Disney changed anything on them. They may not have shared all of the details right away, but Hot Toys obviously got that info at some point before the movie came out and with enough lead time to get a solicitation ready. My assumption is that at the very least, Hasbro has known since before they showed the current figure if they were going to do another and is just keeping it close to the vest for now. Unless they're so gun shy about MCU stuff now that they didn't even want to talk more figures until they saw how the movie performed.
They’re starting to drop more merchandise of Blade, Gambit and X-23, so hopefully a good sign for a second Legends wave eventually.
