I missed the Wal-Mart exclusive Joe Fixit at retail - ended up picking him up on eBay a month or two back for a slightly inflated price. For anyone still looking, a few are on Amazon for ~$45 with free shipping - that's the closest to retail I've seen in a while!
I'm calling it now -
We didn't get a mini-size 1st appearance Wasp in the just revealed 2-pack and the classic Ant-Man last year didn't include a mini-size Ant-Man.
They are obviously missing.
Oh, where could they be? In a multi-figure pack, of course.
Classic Hasbro strategy...
As a continuation of the Avengers Anniversary, I bet will be a multi-figure pack of this:
Avengers #1 Hulk with 3 toes, very Kirby-esque
Avengers #1 Iron Man, maybe a shiny vac gold to make it different than the Iron Man Retro figure just revealed.
Avengers #1 Thor very Kirby-esque
Mini-size classic Ant-Man and an ant or two he can ride
Mini-size classic Wasp
Very Kirby-esque classic Loki
I'm for that box set.
I just got the Super Adaptoid. Is there any good ideas for Wasp's wing representation in his power set?
That's a great idea, but if they do that, the solo gold Iron Man will rot on pegs. That's a SW Credit Collection level of fleecing the customer.
Ooooh - I hope that is their mulitipack strategy because I could skip that thing without thinking twice. There is a zero percent chance I want figures that look mostly like the figures I've already got but with squarer jaws, blockier features and darker shading.
Now if instead they were to do a retro Avengers wave where they put a mini wasp figure in with Yellow Jacket and a mini ant man in with the Space Phantom (from Avengers #2) or Executioner (from Avengers #7) or whatever - then they'd have me for sure.
But a box set of figures I already have modified to look more like the Kirby art from Avengers #1 - yeah that would be a pass.
I'd be so into this set it's ridiculous.
Kirby-esque Hulk and Thor is awesome. My hope for Loki would be that they do his classic look with sculpted details in the ML style, with maybe an extra Kirby-esque head.
Mini-Wasp and Ant-Man with his steeds would be great.
Gold Iron Man so close to the retro figure will get lots of complaints, not unjustifiably. But as part of the package of the first ever issue of Avengers I'd hate to see him not included. Shiny him up and include some additional accessories (roller skates, of course) and I'm in.
I've never noticed the lesser number of toes Hulk has on that cover. I don't like it. If they were to make a Hulk that corresponded with his earliest appearances, make a smaller body. Maybe even with trunks. That's always my issue with the Hulk figures I have and why they don't fit with a first appearance ensemble. Switch to trunks, make a smaller body.
While a FA Avengers boxed set is a neat idea, I don't think it's going to happen. All of these characters can anchor waves or do well as solo releases. The boxed sets we've been getting seem to offer up one A-lister and a bunch of second string characters. I see Hasbro as wanting to spread out A-listers to help sell multiple waves or sets as opposed to shoving them all into one set.
Can we get a Mantis & Swordsman 2-pack next to continue the anniversary? Pretty please?
Can we get a Mantis & Swordsman 2-pack next to continue the anniversary? Pretty please?
Now THIS is an idea I can get behind. Yes please. Give me this now, thank you.
We are so deep into this line that it may be time for Hasbro to offer up characters in quasi artist-specific looks. They've already done it with FA Spider-Man and animated VHS and 97 X-Men, reselling the same characters twice over in the span of a little over one year. If you're going to resell Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, etc, it's probably time to go artist-specific.
Ugh. I'm not interested in the first appearance Wasp, but it does promise that when they finally get to a version I want, she'll still have 4 wings (and I don't like it!)
Good head sculpt, though.
Edit: looking at more photos, it looks like you can choose 2 or 4 wings? I withdraw my bitching.
Wasp would have been tempting for me if she was a solo release, but as a 2-pack with a character I have no interest in owning a figure of she's an easy pass.
