Something about the scales on the Hasbro figure bothers me, too. The Toy Biz versions are much closer to what I picture in my mind's eye. Closer to reptile scales than actual armor.
I won't even get into the articulation. Suffice to say, Bucky Cap is more than a decade old now.
Yeah, it's super weird because part of the reason old TB stuff sometimes doesn't fit in with modern Hasbro stuff is that TB often took a more 'if the comic book but real life' - yet the TB scales are very, very classic comic looking. Whereas the much more 'comic booky' Hasbro figures went with a very modern, 'realistic armor' kind of scales.
I don't know. It's janky. I don't love it for Goblin, but I -REALLY- don't love it when the character isn't even supposed to be wearing scales.
Making my first post on Nu-Fwoosh (which I hope gets better) just to say that Silver Centurion Iron Man will never be forgiven.
I quite like the scales sculpt Hasbro does when it's on, say, a Captain America figure, but on a Green Goblin it looks awful. Toybiz much better captured the subtlety of the texture that appears in the comics and to an extent I think that actually makes it pop more than big bulging scales do.
But subtle isn't really Hasbro's flavor I suppose, unless we count painted on as "subtle".
This is an interesting thread. I can’t think of a figure that I passed up cause of something small. It would have to be egregious. I mainly pass because of price.
@stark-resilient now that was ugly enough that I passed and that’s my favorite armor. I heard the back isn’t right either?
To date, most of the main Marvel characters that I really like have been done to my personal satisfaction, where I don’t really see myself ever needing to buy another version. For example, just to name a few:
Spider-Man red & blue (RYV 2-pack)
Spider-Man black suit (Retro carded)
Daredevil (Hasbro Pulse 3-pack figure)
Captain America (Legends 20th Anniversary)
Iron Man classic (Marvel 80th Anniversary)
Thor classic (Marvel 80th Anniversary)
Hulk classic (Marvel 80th Anniversary)
Wolverine tiger stripe (Apocalypse wave)
Wolverine brown (Retro carded)
Fantastic Four classic (Walgreens wave)
Fantastic Four Byrne (Retro card wave)
Black Panther classic (Attuma wave)
And I’m happy enough with most of the major villains as well like Dr. Doom, Doc Ock, Ultron, Green Goblin, Red Skull, Juggernaut, Rhino, Venom, Zemo, and so on.
Things like pinless joints don’t impress me all that much. These are toys, and I don’t really mind them looking a little bit like toys. Of course if they don’t have the pins, that’s fine too. But just that feature alone would not compel me to rebuy a figure that I feel is already good enough. So I’m not sure what they could really do improve them to the point that I’d feel I had to get them again.
However there are still a few older characters that I have not yet gotten a definitive version of in my book. For example I would definitely pick up a new classic Byrne style Cyclops on the Vulcan body, and a new classic Falcon, and classic Iron Fist (I already have Luke Cage PO’d), and I’m sure I could think of a few others.
But as it stands, I’m happy enough with about 90% of my Marvel Legends collection. I just don’t really sweat the minor details like the Green Goblin’s eyes or his sculpted scales, or Loki’s painted on scales. Little stuff like that honestly doesn’t bother me that much. I’m just happy when I can get classic comic versions of certain characters that look decent enough.

The Retro wave Sue head is an abomination, and there isn't a perfect head to replace it with.
The Black Panther feet are an enigma. Those are far from classic. (The rope cape is also a little off, but close enough I suppose.)
Those are the only things from your list that I find egregiously annoying and inaccurate.
I absolutely love the Byrne era F4 and I refused to buy the retro wave team. Marvel’s 1st family deserved way better.
And I cannot stand the translucent Human Torches. The dude was not see-thru, damn it.
Also, Sue on the Kate Bishop buck was a no-go for me. I had rejected nearly every female they put on that body.
And Reed was just boring with the fruit-by-the-foot fingers. Also every Thing I came across had something wrong with paint apps — either the white paint was messed up on his trunks; the orange shading was too sloppy looking; or each one of his eyes were looking in a different direction.
Also Silver Sable needs a redo. Her figure was a joke.
I wouldn't turn down a Human Torch in the ML2 coloring....hint HINT Hasbro...
The retro-carded Human Torch is the best Human Torch figure, but ML2 is still the best-looking Human Torch figure.
Attuma wave Black Panther straddles the line between "never need another" and "close enough" for me. My top 10 list from last year disappeared with the forum crash, but I want to say that was my favorite ML figure of 2022.
Making my first post on Nu-Fwoosh (which I hope gets better) just to say that Silver Centurion Iron Man will never be forgiven.
How do you feel about the "fixed" version on the WCA boxset? I wish I could swap those pauldrons onto the Walgreens one but I don't think the reds match.
Why do they keep slapping red lipstick on her when she's never had red lipstick in her Widow suit...

Those figures are definitely not perfect, but they are standard Marvel Legends, so you can't expect too much more than that. Plus it's not too likely they'll ever do that version of the team again, so I'm OK with the figures. They are no different than 75% of most other MLs. If you want something way better with more unique sculpts, you'll probably have to hope that Mafex does that version of the FF, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
As for all the see-through Human Torch figures, I think they are going for an effect that if you put him in front of a light it will look like he's glowing.
