I'm sue if I dwelled on it I could come up with some others, but I'll go with that Loki now that you mention it.  I'd love me a classic Loki.......that has effort put into it.  But those tampo scales and the shinny plastic make it look dollar store all the way.  Even the rerelease with the fixed cockeyes didn't sell me.

I actually think that Green Goblin is Hasbro's best GG. (HASBRO'S best.  The BEST best GG is still Toybiz).

Yep. That Loki looks cheap next to characters with unique sculpts like Dr. Doom, Ultron, Red Skull, etc. The painted scales are completely unacceptable. Worse yet, the retro-carded figure came out at the beginning of 2022. The standards should've been far higher by that point.

Surprisingly, I agree with you about the Toy Biz Green Goblin. The ball-jointed hips are obscured on the glider and everything else is better than the Hasbro version. On the Hasbro GG, the sculpted scale mail never looked right to me, the head sculpt was a poor imitation of the Toy Biz figure, and I could never get him in a natural pose on his glider.

Both characters deserve better than a Grim Reaper/Bucky Cap retrofit.

I'd love for Hasbro to make an end all be all Green Goblin

Hasbro just isn't in that business, unfortunately.  They're not going to make an end-all-be-all version of anyone, they gotta sell it to you again sometime down the road (though I personally think they may have accidentally done so with Black Widow, I know I will never need another).  But yeah, with GG I like Hasbro's first one.  It seems people need GG to be a "Romita" GG, and this obviously was not, but it did have a lot going for it with sculpt and paint apps.  The tiny little glider was the main thing holding it back, and they never tried to make it better as time went on.

Toybiz Green Goblin all the way!

Not Marvel or Hasbro related, but wrong wrestling boots.  Short boots when they should be high, kickpads when they should be laces, and vice versa make my eyes twitch.

I have plenty of Legends that are definitive versions of the character/look. That doesn't mean someone couldn't make something along the lines of a $100 import and it wouldn't be a better figure, but plenty of Legends come out that nail it. Since we're on the subject of villains - Dr. Doom, Red Skull, Ultron, classic Dormammu, Super Skrull, MODOK, and Arnim Zola all spring to mind.

I don't disagree that Hasbro has failed to do GG and Loki justice though. The Toy Biz Green Goblin is still in my display. Retro carded Loki hides, embarrassed, behind his properly-executed evil brethren.

The Black Widow movie figures' hair is definitely at the top of my list.

They fall into several different categories for me. Something like:

  • Flawless/never need another - admittedly, I have very few of these. Black Widow (Target exclusive), Ultron, and Red Skull are all examples.
  • Close enough - most of the figures I own would fall into this category. I have a few problems with the existing figure, but it would take a lot to convince me to upgrade. Looking at Kingpin, Nightcrawler, and Thing (Walgreens).
  • Needs some work - these figures all have a fatal flaw, but for now, they're filling a hole in my collection. Kitty Pryde (Juggernaut wave), Mystique, and Rogue (Pyro two-pack) all come to mind.
  • Wanted an upgrade yesterday - if Marvel Legends ended tomorrow, I'd commission an upgrade on Monday. Green Goblin, Loki, Iceman, and Cable all come to mind.

It happens sometimes. Many of the big name villains mentioned by others like Red Skull, Ultron, and Doctor Doom spring to mind, but I'd also say many of their Iron Mans are pretty definitive for those iterations of the armor. Granted, that's likely because many of them can be sold in at least two colorways depending on whether you prefer the armor gold or yellow.

Still, I think that being one of Marvel's biggest villains (and arguably THE arch nemesis of their biggest hero) means that Green Goblin absolutely deserves the treatment the previously named villains got. Or, again, a figure with some interchangeable hands COME ON. He needs fists at least, but a sparkle blast hand would be so cool too.

A better head sculpt, a proper glider, more careful paint application and accurate boots would probably be all Goblin really needs. I suppose they should make the scaled body pinless. They could resell some other characters to us with it and they’re gonna need it for Triton

That's a good way to break it down. And of course how one rates any individual figure will vary person to person person, but I would bet most figures fall into those middle categories, and 1 and 4 are the outliers. I wasn't looking at my shelves earlier, but now that I am I could rattle off another 20 figures that would fit my criteria of never needing another, and that's just of what's displayed - 90% of what I have is stored at the moment.

All that scaling on Green Goblin, Blacknight, etc just looks weird to me. I imagine it looking better if it was broken up with smooth sections here and there like how these guys appeared on the pages but I dunno.
As for Loki, I’m just ready to get a Simonson version with an alternate head sporting the winged crown.

The big one, the one that still hurts, is Classic Black Knight. Fucking Hasbro cheaping out and re-using the scale armor arms and legs... might as well not have even made the character at all. It's like making Extremis Iron Man with the same parts as Crimson Dynamo. It's only 'okay' if you think 'all armor looks the same.'
BK wears mail in his classic appearances. The scale look is a very modern thing and, I might add, sucks and artists should stop doing it. His sword was also wrong, as it wasn't accurate to any sword he used while wearing that costume even up to modern times.
Hell, even the torso they used was one of Hasbro's worst that doesn't allow full shoulder movement (a problem shared by my other favorite character - Shatterstar - and also neither Shatterstar nor Black Knight have proper wrist articulation). Hasbro has basically put in very little effort on all my favorite characters across basically every brand they make figures for. Starts to get you salty after a while. But Black Knight is the one I'm probably the saltiest about.

When you think about it there are sort of 4 essential She-Hulks and they've only done one really. You need a purple and white one for your Avengers shelf (the one they did); a FA Savage She-Hulk in the torn up white onesie (haven't done) for your Hulk shelf; a FF costume one for your FF shelf (haven't done) and a pencil skirt lawyer one for your civilians shelf (or DD shelf).

Can we branch from Marvel? Cause Power Rangers has quite a few. They didn't paint one of the exclusive figures helmet, and had to send out corrected ones to people who bought it in the mail. There was another figure that had 4 different versions and only 1 was accurate to the show. And they squashed the MMPR red helmet and only recently fixed it with newer releases. And for their definitive end all be all MMPR figures, the green ranger dagger holster is completely wrong. I honestly don't even have time to go into everything they royally screwed on that line.

And for Marvel, Tigra was Cheeto orange for her single release. And her heads were both too small and inaccurate. Avalanches helmet from the new figure. His head in general honestly. "Classic" Cable. Pants, guns.

Their Transformers line has a ton of bad choices that make alot of figures inaccurate, especially with alot of the new Beast Wars figures. Some are fine or miniscule. Some are glaringly bad to the point the figure wasn't worth buying like Rhinox. Waspinator was also a giant ****ing disappointment. Inferno was mediocre at best. His gun was the biggest screw up they did on him but there were a few more. If I look close enough probably 90% of them are inaccurate one way or another, but again, some of those are miniscule enough it's not a huge deal.

Something about the scales on the Hasbro figure bothers me, too. The Toy Biz versions are much closer to what I picture in my mind's eye. Closer to reptile scales than actual armor.

I won't even get into the articulation. Suffice to say, Bucky Cap is more than a decade old now.
