Teasers are easy. Warlock, X-Force Archangel based on the not so subtle hints, and an accessory from the "Ultimate Spider-Man" deluxe release.

What about Dwight's tease equals Archangel? That piece was totally unrecognizable to me. Warlock for sure, and good call on the "Ultimate" Spider-Man.

It looks like an effect piece for when he fires his feather blades. Just cast in black for now.

Across the entire ML landscape, those of us that love the classic golden, silver and bronze age looks, otherwise known as everything pre-1990s are gonna have to wait until Dan and Ryan have moved onto other Hasbro IPs or "get sniped for management" as Dwight said a few years ago and Jesse is pre-occupied with other things. Then hopefully they will bring in newer people that embrace the entirety of Marvel - from the 1930s onwards.

I have no problem with them moving onto the 2000's and more recent because I think peak "nostalgia" for things we liked as kids/teens is always about 10-20 years later, so if Legends has any hope of attracting new customers it is the people who are saying "I can't believe I will finally get a Francine Fyre Electro - I was 16 when she was introduced" along with those actively reading the current comics like Spider Boy.

People under the age of 40 likely have nostalgia for looks from the 2000's on and may have as much interest in the 60's to 80's looks as I had with Golden Age looks when Legends started 20 years ago, which is to say only a little for some core characters but not the B and C list. In other words, to the extent Legends caters to nostalgia, the 60's, 70's and 80's are moving further past nostalgia towards being obscure.

I also expect this to continue - it is why I was getting concerned about 5 years ago that filling in the rest of the Official Handbook era was going to get pushed aside for 90's and later looks. It has happened to some extent, but we still get a decent amount of earlier stuff. I actually think it would be in their best interest to get out the 25 or so most requested 60's to 90's looks they haven't done and pivot even more to post 2000 and current looks.

I've seen every Marvel movie up to and including Endgame multiple, MULTIPLE times. After Endgame, I think just No Way Home. Most of the others I don't think I even bothered to re-watch when released on streaming. Says a lot.

Absolutely. And same here with rewatching everything pre-Endgame. Incredible Hulk I watched the least, but even Dark World I found rewatchable because of the stuff with Loki. I'm a little more forgiving with post Endgame though, as I actually liked Eternals and have seen that a few times. Deadpool & Wolverine, Guardians 3 and NWH I've seen multiple times now. Shang Chi and Marvels I've thrown on a few times each when cleaning or something. Black Widow I watched a second time. I rewatched Quantumania unwillingly. but Multiverse of Madness and Love & Thunder I'll be shocked if I ever try again. Wakanda Forever, I kinda hate to say, really didn't do a lot for me. Even beyond Boseman, a lot of that movie just made me sad.

Glad I'm not the only one with this. I loved the 2008-2019 era, saw every movie in theaters, and rewatched the multiple phases many times and rewatched the whole thing in anticipation for Infinity War/Endgame, but I have been pretty lukewarm on everything after besides "No Way Home" and "Deadpool and Wolverine." I'veeven  waited until streaming for several of them. I have watched all the Disney+ shows, too, (besides "What If...") but some were a chore. Even with the Kang and multiverse stuff, it really didn't feel like they were building to any grand cross-over movie.

It'll be interesting to see if they make it required viewing of post-2020 MCU movies for the upcoming Doomsday and Secret War movies or if they just assume you haven't seen any of them and tell the strong with that assumption in mind.

I think this is really overstating where the focus is, and overlooking how many characters from the eras you're citing get made.

These are all the pre-90s characters I count from 2024 alone. Never before made characters in bold:

  • Quicksilver (green)
  • Secret Wars wave (Titania, Beyonder new characters)
  • Dragon Man
  • Kang
  • Crystal & Lockjaw
  • Wong
  • Phoenix
  • Rogue & Destiny
  • Death's Head
  • Odin
  • Blackheart
  • Moon Knight (WCA)
  • Zemo & Zola
  • Iron Fist (classic)
  • Arcade Sentinels
  • Warbird/Ms Marvel
  • Giant-Man Haslab
  • Giant-Man & Wasp
  • Nick Fury
  • Dum Dum Dugan (not counting that pack-in head from the old days)
  • Iron Man Model 01
  • Blackheart
  • Count Nefaria
  • She-Hulk
  • Prowler
  • Ka-Zar & Zabu
  • Ikaris
  • Angel
  • Patch & Joe Fixit
  • Lilandra & Broodverine
  • Tombstone
  • Jack o'Lantern
  • Spider-Man (FA)
  • Crystar
  • Vision

There's probably some missing and maybe some that are arguable. But this list represents a good chunk of the total figures made this year, and probably more than half of the comic figures.

95% of my top wants are from the pre-90s books, but I think it's important to give credit where it's due.

Ooooh, good call. That was just totally illegible to me.

I think I say this every year, but I just genuinely enjoy watching these streams - especially the end of year ones with a ton of reveals and the draft. The team have a good energy and seem genuinely happy to be there, and strike a good balance between a polished production and a few rough edges. Dan pre-confirming things that Ryan seemed a little genuinely annoyed by, or the team being real fans but not getting all the trivia right (Ryan mixing up Elixir as a Guthrie sibling, for example) - it's something I've come to really enjoy even beyond all the new stuff that gets shown off.

I hadn't realized Lizard reuses the torso from the 2012 release. The head and limbs really do a good job making it look like an entirely new figure.

I understand the disappointment but I think that's overstating things a bit. There are plenty of pre-90s figures that have been made under these three's tenure with the line.

Wishing for Dan and Ryan to get moved away from the Marvel team is so wild to me. Two of the nicest and most passionate brand ambassadors. All because they're not catering exclusively to your tastes.

That's enough Fwoosh for today, methinks!

All this shit talking about MCU Phase 5 has me committed to doing a full rewatch this December.    I bet with the lowered expectations now I might enjoy them more than I did originally.

I need to start with the back half of Phase 4 first.  I actually enjoyed Eternals and Shang Chi the first time.     I've watched Eternals 4 times now and Shang Chi at least 3.    I've caught bits of Multiverse of Madness on TBS here and there, but haven't done a full rewatch yet.     I need to sit down with Love and Thunder and then watch Wakanda Forever again.    Love and Thunder was definitely my least favorite of all of them -  Taika needed to be reigned in a bit I think.   And Wakanda Forever just felt heavy.    It's unusual for me that I haven't consumed it numerous times considering the material.    I do think I need to.

With phase 5 Quantumania will probably still be a mess -  but I think there were some fun parts, so I'll be on the look out.   Guardians 3 was actually good - so I know I'll enjoy seeing that again.    And the Marvels deserves another pass probably.     Secret Invasion was definitely my least favorite of the Disney+ shows,   but I'll try again in a binge and see if I like it better.   Loki Season Two and Agatha All Along were great and thoroughly enjoyable for me.    Echo was decent, but I might like it better binging it.

I don't know -  obviously Phases 4 and 5 suffered from not being as good as Phase 3 - which would be pretty difficult to top -    Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War and Endgame is a run that would be hard to touch no matter what.      But I don't think all of it was as dire as people make it out to be.   Eternals is way better than it gets credit for in my estimation.   I'm actually bummed it didn't get it's planned sequel.    I also thought Shang Chi was really good.    I wanted more of that too.      Specifically I think Quantumania and Love and Thunder were huge steps down in quality in their own series and those two put a stink on everything else.

The Marvels had the misfortune of being the next movie up in less MCU friendly media space,  the inevitable "eww it's all females" backlash it was always going to get from a toxic corner of the fandom community,  and a bit of overall shared universe exhaustion.    For that movie to truly make sense viewers would have had to watch the first Captain Marvel movie,  WandaVision, and Ms. Marvel at the very least -   that's a lot of pre-requisites to need.

Anyway -  I think most of the recent MCU content gets a bad rap and isn't as bad as a lot of people like to portray.   It isn't as good as the Phase 3 stuff,  but much of it is easily as good as some of the Phase 1 or 2 offerings.   Most of those films listed -  with the exception of Quantumania and Love and Thunder -  stack up against Iron Man 3 or Thor 2 for quality.

Finally Marrow!! And a Husk figure in the flesh! Who would have ever thought?

Bummed Nemesis is modern, but I’m sure they’ll tackle classic eventually.

Chipping away at never been done characters. Excited for all the new ones sprinkled through.

Yeah, Secret Invasion was the one that broke me out of 'I'm gonna watch all of them!'. Just not worth my time. A few of the shows have been outstanding, some of the shows have been enjoyable, and some of the shows I forget (or at least try to) they even exist. I thnk I've seen half of the post-Endgame movies in theaters still, which surprises me looking back now. I admit streaming has really changed the game for me, for sure. I imagine they'll makes Doomsday and Secret Wars somewhat self-contained. I mean, my kids never saw Daredevil/Elektra or Blade, but that didn't matter for Deadpool & Wolverine. My son's girlfriend's jaw dropped when I told her Blade has a trilogy and is a vampire hunter. I think with the Avengers movies, if you have a vague idea who the heroes are, and a pretty firm grasp of what the primary protagonists are about, and the movie paints a very clear picture of who the villain is and what their motives are, it'll be fine.

I was just about to reply saying that there is 100% no way that torso is a re-use... and yet. It definitely is. Huh. The Torso wasn't the problem at all with that original figure so...

On the hints, watching the whole thing, they also pretty much confirmed the rumored Marvel vs. Capcom line (Dan saying Marrow and Cable will go well with "some other characters coming up in the future" and Ryan saying they coincide with a theme that'll be revealed in 2025) and MCU Electro, so I'm guessing those will be early 2025 reveals. So the list continues to be spot on.
