@thor-el They could correct all of this with just one wave.... Volstagg BAF, Fandral, Hogun, Balder, Kurse, Heimdall, Executioner and whatever Thor figure they feel necessary to throw in. Bang, done!! (Plus a deluxe Valkyrie with Aragorn done separately but to coincide with the wave)
Simonson Thor
This would be the most perfect wave ever. Plus Valkryie and Aragorn. Chef's kiss assortment.
And it's actually feasible. This year the BAF waves were Fan Channel. Less production. Less loss prevention. Catered to collectors, not casual buyers in big box stores.
This would fit the new BAF structure.
All this! Day one purchase!
They did do something like that though with Civil War. I think one wave was entirely comic except, if I'm remembering correctly, for Scarlet Witch? I assume something occurred that provoked the way they do things now though.
The Eternals wave shitting the bed so spectacularly had them do a hard left turn back into split waves of Comic and MCU figures for the next two films (Quantumania and the Marvels). Guardians 3 was already locked in, and more proven as a mover of toys so it's dedicated wave stayed.
Disney's altered approach to their MCU line up, big delays in release dates and their withholding information from Hasbro (Deadpool & Wolverine) - have all really put a wrinkle in how Hasbro is able to market and release figures to support the movie release
That coupled with the overall retraction of the figure release strategy this year has made all of this harder to predict. I think that's why there's only these deluxe figures for the Cap movie - they didn't know what was coming when exactly.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Thunderbolts film and how they are able to deal with that.
Let's take Cap as an example:
What is the harm in offering -
The three deluxe figures already shown: Cap, Falcon and Red Hulk
And
Either a BAF wave or Retro Card wave with complimentary Cap related figures that are not going to be made at least a year out of the movie premier if they are in the Cap film: Diamondback, Demolition Man, Sin, Isaiah Bradley, Patriot, Jim Hammond, Toro, Spitfire, Baron Blood, Blazing Skull, any number of Invaders, Serpents, etc.
Are they afraid of comic vs. film competition?
I think it's more likely a matter of retailer interest and production capacity than a fear of competition. The Captain America situation is a bit unique since due to the size they chose to do deluxe releases rather than a proper BAF wave, so this might actually work for this specific example. If they're already doing a movie wave (which usually means a lot of new sculpting), it might not be so simple to also do a comic wave alongside it, especially if the stores aren't interested.
That's why I'm hoping the recent Strange Tales and Marvel Knights waves didn't totally bomb. If they did well enough to justify more, doing these fan channel exclusive waves that contain lower profile characters that stores might not otherwise be keen to order could be a good way to get some of these missing Legends fans want.
Yep.
This would be the perfect IP to do a complimentary Fan Channel BAF wave because the costs would be low. So many Cap-related characters would require very minimal tooling outside of a new sculpted head or two. Of all the characters I listed the only one that would need additional tooling outside of existing bucks would be Baron Blood all depending on how they would do the wings. Maybe Toro and Jim Hammond depending on how they would do the flame effects if they aren't painted on. Most Invaders/All-Winners Squad/WWII heroes are standard bucks and maybe a cape. A lot of Serpents are similar. Scourge, Hate-Monger, Anaconda, Bushmaster, Death Adder are the exceptions and would require more tooling.
It just seems like a sales win-win - film figure collectors get something & comic collectors get something. Just seems like a good, sound marketing strategy.
@beamish Wouldn't Baron Blood need a new skinny body or are we allowing Pizza Spidey still. They need that type body anyway for Diablo and others. Or is the Wild Child body good? I don't have him.
I feel like a newer lithe body could get a lot of reuse. Carrion, Baron Blood, Wizard, FA Cyclops, etc. etc. I only wish they had introduced one before making Karnak.
Pulled from Facebook - revealed today in Brazil -
I'm amending my previous statement:
Tomorrow they will probably reveal both the remainder of this Spidey wave and the X BAF wave.
AOA Gambit
Electro (Frye)
I just saw these posted, and came to look and see if someone else had mentioned it, yet. & You never seem to fail me, Beamish. 😀
Guess that’s the most recent Spidey wave rumour confirmed then. Which kinda bums me out because there’s very little there I’d buy (and I’m a huge mark for Spidey figures).
If that and the rumoured X waves are tomorrow’s reveals, it might be a quiet few months for my wallet.

This would be amazing. I'd love to see Thor and Cap get some dedicated, comic waves like Iron Man has gotten. They both have high enough profiles now to support their own comic waves.
One thing to consider about villains and supporting characters getting comic figures near their MCU appearance. Certainly, there's some overlap between comic and MCU fans/collectors, but a movie appearance may not necessarily make someone want a comic version more. Comic fans have been likely reading for a while and are used to waiting for comic figures. Movie fans may be more prone to buy figures while the media is fresh. Comic sales are so low in numbers these days, I wonder if people turned onto characters via the MCU even give comics a try. So maybe there really isn't much direct benefit to releasing a comic villain out near a movie appearance. They can hold off a bit in time. The interest from comic fans will still be there until an available slot appears in the line.
Better pics on Hasbro Pulse's IG. Gambit will be mine fer shure even though AOA is the only X-Men run I've never read.

Would the Toad body work? I don't think that one has been reused at all yet.
He'd probably need a skinnier torso but it poses fantastic.

I'm sure it's been suggested before, but it would be fun to see them do some faux-retro cards if they were to go that route. There was no dedicated Thor or Captain America subline (that I'm aware of) but let them mock up a retro card for it anyway.
There's also still plenty of old retro cards they haven't touched yet (Avengers, Hulk, Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider they've barely used) so it's not like they've tapped the nostalgia well dry. Just a fun idea.
Is Female Electro a new character or a retcon?
