Complaining about characters getting redoes and updated bodies is such an odd thing to do. More popular characters sell. And they certainly sell better than less known and even obscure characters. The line won't survive if it switches to blink-and-you-miss-them characters. If you don't want upgrades, don't buy them.
Yeah - the reality is I'm never going to rail against the new version of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, even Thor or Captain Marvel. I get it - those are the big guns, the tent poles. Those are the ones that drive the bus. New versions of those characters should be readily available to people.
Sometimes I might get a tad frustrated - say in an Iron Man line - when three different Iron Man armors get included at the expense of an Iron Man villain or supporting character. Wouldn't two armors have sufficed there maybe? There's always going to be room to release another Iron Man - maybe not so much for the auxillary guys.
But the issue hbhfback points out is legitimate. The c-list comic characters that get elevated by a movie franchise get superseded in the figure department by the movie version of the character to take advantage of the movie, at the expense of the comic version of the character. And then they don't get slotted in to a later comic wave because there are other that are felt to need attention or are cheaper to do.
Anyway, I've been patient - i've literally been asking Marvel Legends reps at San Diego Comic Con for nearly 20 years now when I can expect a Man Ape figure. Patiently waiting hasn't gotten it done, man.
That’s how I felt about Death’s Head (I}. I’ve long wanted the character, and I’ve been collecting ML since the beginning of the Toy Biz days. It bothered me that we got the Minion version before the original. We’re finally getting him after all these years.
I’ve been campaigning for Ultraverse characters for what seems like forever. Still haven’t seen one of them. I’m not giving up though. You shouldn’t either.
if it’s a character you desire, keep making your desires known. We don’t know what’s in the planning stages for ML next year, or after. You could see them (like the Death’s Head example). We know Hasbro keeps tabs on the Fwoosh, so keep articulating what you want. Make them aware. Your chances of seeing those characters realized in plastic are better than if you don’t ‘speak up’. I guess what I’m saying is, “Don’t give up”.
If these listing's pan out, Slyde, Princess Python and Hypno-Hustlèr would be some inspired choice for sure! HowEver, my personal caveat would be " Where is Vermin, Carrion, Scarecrow, Man-Wolf, Sin-Eater, Lightmaster, Basilisk..." lol!
I kind of passive-aggressively take swipes at the team on Twitter and Instagram when I post pictures of Legends Thor-related figures in scenes with Mythic Legions figures, and say stuff like, "Apparently, since Hasbro isn't interested in my money, I'll give it to the Horsemen instead", or "Since Hasbro won't give us Skurge, Ragnarök (from FortNite) will be keeping Amora company instead".
I'll add myself to that list that would prefer to see fewer remakes and more new previously unmade characters. I buy a lot of the re-do's but I've never ever once felt good about it.
I only need one Peter Parker, one Steve Rogers, one Logan, etc. in my collection. I totally get why characters need to be refreshed to keep the line going, but I just wish it was closer to a 50/50 split. Over the years I've probably spent 100s of dolllars on re-dos of many multiple characters each when I only keep one and end up selling the others for literally pennies on the dollar. It's not my fault that Hasbro/ToyBiz/whomever can't get their best version released the first time. It just makes it more frustrating because like many people, Legends isn't the only line that I collect so I end up doing it for other lines also.
I'm that guy who will buy every single C and D list character they make for the very first time, but I'm burnt out on buying a new Peter Parker Spider-Man or Steve Rogers Captain America just about every year and then turning around and selling the last version for next to nothing. Yes, I always want the "definitive" version, but how many "do-overs" of each character do we have to buy to get there? I've been doing this dance for over 20 years now with this line. I guess that I should only blame myself for expecting anything to change.

A couple of things - low frequency characters do make it into the line so it's a matter of prioritization. And I am not naive enough enough to advocate for a switch to ONLY new characters all the time. I've said that repeatedly.
I'm talking about a character like Rachel Summers - who has as many comic book appearances as Kraven, Bullseye and Shocker combined - but can't get the same kind of figure love that those guys get.
Or characters who have lower comic book appearance totals but bigger overall cultural footprint thanks to MU appearances like Skurge and M'Baku.
And it's not about "don't like them, don't buy them" That's fine, I don't. But there are only X number of sku's released each year and so each of those slots that's taken up by revisiting a figure they've already done 4 or 5 times - but this time with a slightly updated butterfly joint or the newest hip innovation - is a slot that can't go to one of those characters that's been patiently waiting it's turn.
The only figures I see peg warming from the Iron Man retro wave are Nefaria and Blacklash, which is unfortunate because those two along with She-Hulk were what I was most excited about in that wave.
Interesting - I do see Nefaria pretty often, which is too bad since he's the one I was SO happy to get - but one I've seen more often than Whiplash has been the Mark 1 or 2 or whatever Iron Man. The chunky original suit version doesn't move nearly as well as the other two. To be fair - I hit ALOT of Target stores in the last two weeks and saw plenty of every figure from that wave but at the stores where only a couple were left it was usually Nefaria and chonky Iron Man I saw.
@panthercult he is the only one I have seen of the 3 Iron Man figures, just haven't seen him as often as the two villains.
This is the Memphis area.

Totally fair - I wasn't saying you were wrong. Just sharing my experience here. I literally have stopped in at least 20 different Target stores throughout the state in the last 2 weeks.

This is similar to my frustration point. Do it right the first time! Don't make Tigra a ridiculous color just so you can resell her later and waste a slot where Firebird could go. Nail the C-list characters the first time and keep releasing NEW ONES. They sell better the higher the quality - this is proven time and again.

This! 100% this! And bless you for the Firebird call out!
Late 2023 thru this year we saw the BAF waves offered mostly thru Fan Channel/Amazon (Void, Zabu & Blackheart), not big box stores. Many of us believe the latter 2 waves were not planned long term but were "hastily" put together to compensate for the lack of MCU product because of ever shifting film schedules. I guess we'll know soon if "Dwight's epic BAF" wave will follow suit.
In my zest to ask various team members more lighthearted questions at SDCC and not referencing my notes, I guess I really should have asked if this is the norm going forward, meaning BAF waves for Fan Channel and Retro Waves for big box, or if 2024 is a fluke year to compensate for the lack of film product. I actually thought that would have been a solid question for any number of influencers to ask in their interviews.
If the future is Fan Channel BAF waves, the optimist in me would like to hope A, B, C & D list characters will still get made yearly, and Skurge, Attuma, M'Baku, Mantis, Wizard, Baron Mordo, classic Crimson Dynamo etc. have a shot a plastic immortality. Hopefully the ROM wave will be space-themed, and we finally see the likes of Starfox, Phyla-Vell, Jack of Hearts, Pip the Troll and an original GOTG member. As for characters like Rachel Summers and Feral, I think they are both being held back so there is a "fan demanded character" available in 2025 and 2026.
Although so far there is no dedicated X-related BAF wave this year, at least X-Men '97 is wildly popular so that line will hopefully continue for many years, the only downside is lack of a BAF.
I'm surprised, like many of you, that they haven't dedicated an evergreen "line" to continually have versions of traditional Spidey, Wolverine, Cap and Tony on the shelves.
Thor-El - I comedically needle the team on Insta and Twitter, too. I might seem like a broken record to them, but if I can keep at least my Top 15 most wanted characters in play, it makes me happy.
I also like to think that our Top 10 poll and other sites similar polls are helping. It took 20+ years, but we finally got Crystal and Lockjaw, both continually either topping or placing in Top 10 polls for years. Maybe it was just their time, maybe the team finally convinced Disney/Hasbro/Marvel that the fans want these characters, so let's finally do them.
They read these boards. I think we should all keep our favorite characters in play.
Well if true, Princess Python and Slyde will be fun picks I’ll happily buy.
Hypno Hustler though. Man, that’s crazy. The Spidey line has the best surprises. Can’t wait
