What we don't have, yet again....

-Asgardians

-New Serpents

Posted by: @puckace

Where are the missing classic Avengers, Warriors Three, and Serpent Society?

Still waiting for important classic villains like M'Baku, Mandarin, Attuma, Skurge, and the Frightful Four......

All of this. If those lists are anywhere even close to true, there's more on them I don't want than I do. And while my wallet appreciates that, the obvious continued absence of the above sucks pretty badly.

The list seems sus. I’d love for it to be true because it sounds amazing, but most of the new entries (especially the MCU ones) seem either like wishlists or common sense guesses based on cast lists. A Deadpool and Wolverine wave would be awesome but I’m skeptical we’re getting one.

Seeing people’s claims about what would sell vs what won’t are always a bit amusing because everyone seems to have totally different perspectives on what is actually marketable. We’ve been having the “Why are they making these MCU figures instead of classic comic stuff we all* want instead!” debate for over a decade now.

Ok, to review...

I'm expecting to buy all of the mini-comic wave that has the rumored BAF of the comic spinner.

Spider-Man Comic Wave: I will likely buy that whole wave too, even though I have no connection to Spider-Man Unlimited.

Gamerverse Wave: I will probably skip all of this except the Ghost Spider costume, which will probably be cool.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Wave: I really don't like animated figures. I can't imagine getting any of these unless Norman or Nico are unusually good. It would be weird to have 2 Nicos released before any other Runaways characters. (Although I have stand-ins for Molly Hayes and Old Lace).

Other Spider-Man Figures: I'll likely get the 6-armed Dark Spidey and probably Anti-Venom, skip on the others.

X-Men Comic Wave: I'll likely buy all of this if it has a BAF even though I have zero interest in the X-Factor Cyclops, but he'll likely come with a BAF part and Ultimate Wolverine likely won't. Don't really need X-Force Nightcrawler either, honestly.

Foxverse X-Men: Pass on all.

X-Men '97: Likely pass on all although I bought 11 of the first 12 figures (just skipped the 2nd Magneto). Deluxe Storm might be a must get, though. We'll see.

X-Factor / X-Force stuff will be mostly passes for me although I might consider an updated Warpath/X-23 even though I already have the last versions of each.

MCU Thunderbolts: I'm always a sucker for Red Guardian and could see myself splurging on updated MCU Ghost and Taskmaster also if they're significantly better than the first versions. Skipping the rest easily, including Sentry. I'd buy a JLD Contessa if they made her, though.

MCU F4 Wave: I'd definitely buy a Shalla Bal Silver Surfer, but that would probably be it from this wave unless I really like the Franklin/HERBIE combo. Big pass on MCU Galactus as I already have the HasLab, MU version and the Toy Biz BAF.

D&W wave: a full wave without a DP or Logan? Call me highly skeptical of that. I'd buy Cassandra and Paradox and skip the rest of that wave. I would likely buy that DP Corps set though with Kidpool, Babypool, etc.

Cap Marvel / Dar-Benn: Yeah, I'd buy that for Dar-Benn.

D+ Wave: I'd buy Kahhori, Ouroboros w/ Miss Minutes, Werewolf by Night and Sakaar Iron Man. Pass on the rest, including Daredevil and Punisher. I'd rather have Echo.

Deluxe "Ultimate" Spider-Man and Hulk: I hate that I'll likely buy these, but know that I will. This will probably be the gimmick that makes me replace a good portion of my collection. The pinless tech has already started that. I HATE that after 20+ years of collecting these figures.

MvC: Shuma is the only slam dunk purchase for me but I'm sure that I'll cave and get more than that, especially if they're not in an overly gamer style (like the McF JL Task Force was - gross!). I've wanted a new Ninja Psylocke for a long time. I missed the one from the Apocalypse BAF wave and still have the Toy Biz version.

Iron Man wave: Yeah, I'll likely buy that whole wave.

2-Packs: I could see myself buying all of those. The Champion and Triton figures are the ones I really want from those. Call me skeptical of the Mephisto/Robbie 2-pack as well, but I'm sure that I'd buy it if it's legit.

About a month ago or so, Dan said in a podcast interview that a focus of 2025 and 2026 is completing teams.

-If the 2025 Black Bolt/Triton 2-pack is correct, we'd most likely be on course to finishing the main Inhumans Royal Family in 2026 with Gorgon and probably an updated Medusa or maybe Maximus. Fingers crossed!

Dark Spider-Man and Wolverine also puts us very close to the complete Dark Avengers, even if Ai Apaec technically is from the later iteration of the team. With Iron Patriot, Sentry, Marvel Boy, Moonstone and now Ai Apaec and Daken, the only one still missing would be Bullseye/Hawkeye and I guess maybe Ares if they think the 2017 version is outdated.

Archangel and Nightcrawler also put us real close to finishing off the Uncanny X-Force; E.V.A. is pretty much the only one left.

Interested to see what tariffs will do to Hasbro's figure line.  Hadn't we heard about them shifting figure manufacturing somewhat to Vietnam or am I imagining things from the past?  I don't need a whole plethora of Deadpool movie figures.  I might buy a Blade, more likely Gambit if he looks alright, mostly just want a DP2 Juggernaut and that'd be it.

It sounds like I'll be buying more figures this year than the last two though, so depending on the cost we'll have to see what coalesces.

Don't know if any of these leaks are accurate, but...

Shuma's an easy purchase. Awesome to see some MvC love.

I'll always take more figures of Nico, one of my favorite Marvel characters. I'm assuming that would be a wave for the new animated series? It has an aesthetic that's almost Archie-like, I wonder how kids take to it.

Spoiler
This is Nico's design in it.

Ouroboros...Well, there's a number of Waymond Wang customs waiting to happen.

If the list is real, and it's a DP2 Juggernaut then I'll be in a pickle, but if it's D&W Juggernaut, real easy pass.

But even if that list is only half right, I'll be getting more figures than I did this year for sure.

I know nothing about Gamerverse, other than we've gotten figures in the past.

Is it popular enough to get its own wave? Is it something I should check out?

Is it popular enough to warrant its own wave? Yes. Game sales information is often difficult to find, but the first game (Spider-Man 2018) sold 33 million units by June 2022. That makes it easily the best-selling PlayStation exclusive of all time. It's since been ported to PC, as well.

Should you check it out? Do you like video games? If so, yes. If not, maybe watch all the cutscenes instead.

That Marvel vs Capcom seems awfully light on the Capcom.

They released Capcom figures when they did that 3.75" MvC line, but at the time I don't think other companies were creating any Capcom characters as figures.  If that's wrong someone please do share.  But now several companies are creating them with Jada Toys just killing it with every Capcom release they do, so Hasbro may not have been able to get the license this time.

Which is totally fine given how insanely good all of the Jada Toys releases are.  I'd MUCH rather they keep doing them than Hasbro.  Jada is releasing near-import-quality figures at a $25 price point, so we're better off letting them do what they're already doing.

Speaking of, I wonder if they do retro card packaging for these that look like the old ToyBiz 2-packs.

They are finally making figures of Storm, Wolverine, Jean and Scott in their uniforms for the Fox universe and only Scott gets to be in the uniform everyone wants? Won't be getting any of those if true.

The way Hasbro is doing business is really getting vulgar and on the nose.

I'll probably only get 97 wave 3 and the Capcom Psylocke 2-pack IF she's compatible with comic book figures and actually looks like Jim Lee art. As much as I loved her in the game I don't need a figure of her with those absurd legs and boobs.

Let's hope no effect.  '16-20 was a great stretch for Legends and not sure a tariff will be across the board (or at all).  Ugh.  Let's be positive, but damn loving the hobby again and don't want it crushed.  I think we'll be alright 🤐

I am hoping the new part of the list is not real - there's too much and almost nothing appeals to me from the Facebook page.  As is, I will be buying more Legends in 2025 than a while I think.  The 85th Anniversary line is incredible as is X-Men '97 but wound up to being only like 8-10 buys; but VERY good ones.

2025: Basically 2 90s X-Men waves 😀 Perfect for me, especially since Cable is among them and this BAF is gonna be a banger from that era.  Armor would be amazing if it's non-90s.  And I will likely purchase the Sentinel.  No interest at all in Ultimate Wolverine or X-Force Nightcrawler.  Comic Spidey wave with Kaine and Agent Venom, those are huge purchases for me.  Hope there is a battle damage Spider-man afterall.  Iron Man Wave is at least partially purchased.  The mini comic wave, Skrull, Inhumans, are all possible, have to see.  I imagine it will be close to 20 figures, most in a while.

As for Ultimates, I never get the "we already have these characters" or "I will lamentably buy it"  crowd.  I will gladly pay more for better. Odin is the best figure Hasbro ever made in my opinion - fuck yeah I will pay for Spider-man and Hulk with paint, presentation, accessories etc.  Keep those coming.  Better and cheaper than Mafex.

Let's hope no effect.  '16-20 was a great stretch for Legends and not sure a tariff will be across the board (or at all).

Trump was threatening a 15% tariff in mid-2019 on many Chinese goods such as toys that caused Hasbro to pre-emptively raise the price of Legends from $19.99 to $21.49--so exactly 15% to mirror the tariff--but it turned out later in the year that he changed his mind for some reason I never heard the explanation for.  The Legends figures that went up for pre-order between when the threat came and when it was rescinded were $21.49, but after it got yanked Hasbro dropped the price back down to $19.99.  Who knows what gets tariffed this time. so let's not worry about it until it happens, shall we?

Almost every physical product we buy is either partially or fully manufactured in China.  If you want to see the worst inflation anyone has ever seen who is alive today then sure, impose that proposed 60% tariff on EVERYTHING from China.  The fallout will make the Covid-era inflation that tipped the election last week look incredibly tame by comparison.  😳

I don't think that the great majority of people today realize just how cheap products are now as compared to 50 or 100 years ago when adjusted for inflation that's almost ENTIRELY driven by ultra-cheap Chinese labor, but if you want to see what prices used to be like then put up those tariffs to make Chinese goods priced more similarly to those produced in developed nations.  I can't imagine it will happen because it wouldn't take long for ALL of us--even the upper-middle class--to regret the choice we made.  And Trump needs to be liked, so I'd bet a good amount that the promised 60% tariff will go into the same bin that Mexico paying to build our wall went into.

Honestly, at this point I think it's fair if you call China a developed nation from a manufacturing standpoint. Labor-wise, they have a much more skilled workforce than the other countries our companies are starting to outsource manufacturing to. That seems a likely reason why we're now making so much in Vietnam, Mexico, Thailand, etc. It's going to be a long, long shift, China's still going to be the bulk of our imports for a long time, but we're a runaway consumer society built on cheap goods. We'll go to the lowest bidder possible.

I expect that the tariffs are largely bluster, at least in the scale Trump's outlined, but it's hard to predict anything with his administration. (I'm almost more curious if the Mexico tariffs happen. Buy up your Levis and New Balances this Christmas just in case, toy forum dads!) The tariffs he implemented on China the last time undercut our agriculture at the very least -- turns out A LOT of our soy was going to China, who was happy to start buying it cheaper from Brazil, whose right-wing government was more than happy to clear more rainforest for more farmland. Things have balanced somewhat after Brazil imposed some taxes on it over the summer, but that was still the push they needed to pass our output and become the world's largest soybean exporter. *USA chant*

Honestly, it's pretty shocking Hasbro actually lowered the price at the point it became clear those tariffs weren't happening, but they're making non-necessities so they're far more vulnerable to consumer austerity. I expect they even had a little bit of a boost from pandemic-era boredom buying, so dropping the price for a bit wasn't an issue. The MCU's been a zombie brand for a half-decade anyway.
