My suspicion is that the BAF waves will become less common - or move to Fan Channel - and the mini-comic will become the defacto option for the mainline releases. The success of the retro cards - which I think work better on shelves than the old Legends box -has to have gotten retail thinking this is the way to go, and focusing on X-Men and heavy hitters makes sense given the X-Men 97 series.

I think the switch has already happened - BAFs are Fan Channel and Retro Card waves are everywhere.

All of the BAF waves since the Void wave have been Fan Channel. The Zabu wave hit a few retailers (like Macys oddly), but that might have been a fluke. The just revealed X-Men wave being Fan Channel cements it for me.

Retro waves all seem to be big box retail - Spidey, Iron Man, X-Men '97, Secret Wars, now mini-comic.

As long as we get at least three BAF waves a year, I'm good.

I don't know how I missed Miles Morales!

I don't have him in collection yet, so that'll have to be another pickup.

You may be right... but that is for sure the most disappointing choice I can imagine.   I absolutely don't need a retro Mystique.   The Walgreen's exclusive Mystique was great and I have no issues with it and I don't need them revisiting that look again already.    And they hit it again in the Animated Series Box release - albeit with that cel shading...   I can think of 50 X-Men characters I would like to see on that retro card at least before another Mystique.

So far it seems like the Target X-figures are alternate looks for characters we've already gotten. I could see Mystique being in her 2000s black leather costume, especially since they did that figure in the early Hasbro days and they seem to be focused on updating all of those right now (Daken, Banshee, Ultimate Iron Man, Adam Warlock).

That could also be where the rumored Strong Guy figure winds up.

As far as the dumbbells, maybe they go with the rumored Champion Of The Universe figure?

Banshee is fine, but I thought we'd get something new or novel about him, maybe an effect, or a different head.  Is the hair just more orange?  Is that what I'm seeing besides the obvious repainted body and now he comes with a plastic slab to read in the "water closet?"

Might get Daken if he's heavy clearanced.  Did this character get adamantium in the books or something becase he's got adamantium claws with metallic looking claw ports like Wolverine would have.  The rest I don't need.  Did they give a price expectation for this "Maximum" series line?  I'll probably get the retro Jean solely because if I don't and then decide I want it later I'll get to pay double on FeeBay.  Can anyone give context to all the pics I'm seeing of Gambit related comics toward the end?  I don't have a video to watch and it just shows Ryan showing off a lot of Gambit-heavy issues.

Ryan was just talking about the mini-comic wave and showing off some of his comic collection (which tends be 90s X-Men heavy) like when he shows off his trading card collection. I don't think it was any kind of hint or anything.

I am pretty sure he did during Dark Reign. Some old, fancy, adamantium sword was melted down for it.

If the comics Ryan was showing off are indeed hints, there was a cover or two with Colossus on them.  A GSXM Colossus (hopefully upgrade of some form) retro card with dumbbells would maybe make sense.  The last figure  with that look was in the Juggernaut 2pk, but wasn't that re-solicited not that far back?  With Phoenix being upgraded, Nightcrawler from the 97 line, and Banshee coming out, more GSXM are likely.

Despite my aversion to modern takes on classic characters, if they did happen to release a solid take on that version of Mystique, I would totally scoop it up without hesitation. I had forgotten they already tried once back in the day.  I just looked it up and ewww; wak doodoo butt.

I appreciate their decision to update or make amends for previous failures.  I just wish they would take another run at my boy, Doc Samson!

Okay these type of "live" streams are the wallet killers for me. All comic except for one MCU figure. I want just about every single comic figure shown. Daken may be a pass for me since not part of a BAF wave, I just have no connection to him or read any story with him in it. MCU Electro is a pass as I no longer buy MCU figures. That Spidey is a must have. I can see a Mister Fantastic being done this way. Just a great showing overall.

Oh baby!!

Todd McFarlane Spider-man!!!!  Was not expecting that and they nailed it - physique, weblines, webs, face, spider, articulation, colors etc.  I don't think Hasbro paint will ever top Toy Biz, but they surpassed everything else.  There was a time when this was my everything, now it's a blast from the past and I love it.  I was in on this line, moreso Hulk, from the first rumor, but now am even more in.

I know it's not everyone's bag, but not entertaining water on the fire.  So much 90s love right now and so happy.  I need a rooftop or something.  They nailed the Peter head too.

This mini comic thing is neat I guess, some good figures, not really for me even going back to when it was leaked but all good.

I agree, but this new mini-comic wave is the first to use the retro-card style packaging in a wave that is not themed around a particular character/team/book but the usual variety of characters you would find in a generic BAF wave.

In other words, a non-themed blister card wave is a new wrinkle.

And they might still do MCU related BAF waves at retail, we will see.

It is nice to see Hasbro create their own original cardback. Or, as OG as an 85-year-old brand controlled by the iron glove of the Mouse can be.

I don't know this Jean costume but the lack of boots is such a huge mistake. And I hope this doesn't cost me the chance for a Jim Lee Jean on an orange card back.

ALSO - why does Jean have a cut directly across her neck? WTF?

Warlock and Banshee sport the Vulcan buck's wrist-cuts-for-no-reason that Hasbro REFUSES to stop doing. IT LOOKS TERRIBLE. And then Banshee's painted boot top - it's disgusting how Hasbro can do just a bit better and actively refuse to do so.

Adam needs an alt head and Banshee needed at least one different one - we've already got both of those! Didn't need muttonchops again. Miles hips are super wide. And what the heck - no women? They only get one or two slots a wave as-is - skipping a wave entirely is unacceptable.

Also, did anyone really think these livestreams were actually live? They haven't been for years, if ever. Hasbro is too corporate to allow that kind of spontaneity.

They might, but seems like they aren't. No Way Home, Deadpool & Wolverine, and now Cap 4 all skipped that. Marvels, GOTG3, Quantumania, and the last Disney Plus wave had BAFS but last year, and what we know so far this year, they aren't continuing that. I guess we'll see with Thunderbolts since that seems like a likely contender to bring back MCU BAFs if anything does.

Also funny to see how very different marketing is these days when we're six months from a Fantastic Four movie with not even a teaser trailer yet.
