Started attending SDCC annually after I moved to L.A. in the mid/late 90s.   Went for probably a good dozen years.  Then I took a break.  I have a friend who would get me in for free (he worked for an large exhibitor).  Free tickets.  Free hotel.  Some comped meals.  But it became a bit much for me.  Took the break.  Went back after a half-dozen year break.  I was walking the hall and after maybe an hour or so, I went into the lobby and had to plop down onto my butt to decompress.  It was just too much.  Too may people.  And frankly, after walking through the floor for that short bit of time, I felt I had seen what I wanted to see.   I'd rather sit at home and just read/see about reveals through sites.  Way less stress.  The only thing I miss is meeting the ML crew (or other company reps) in person and chatting about likes/dislikes from their lines.

I do remember when Jesse Falcon was a regular at the tiny little Toy Biz booth.  Showing off stuff.  I remember when they debuted Marvel Legends there.  They had a folding table roped off.  I swung by the booth (for the millionth time) at the end of one of the days.  Jesse opened the rope for me and allowed to be see the figures up close.  The Hulk figure had radically different neck articulation and "plates of muscle" on the back of the butterfly joints.  I probably have pics buried somewhere.  And Jesse spilled the beans to be the 2nd wave would have Fantastic Four characters in it.  Another year, he saw me looking at a packaged Helms Deep Aragon hanging on a mesh display board.  He pulled the figure down and opened it in front of me and let me mess with it.  Jesse was always super friendly and was/is a great ambassador for the brand/line.

All said, I'll enjoy reading/seeing the reveals online this year.  I've really enjoyed not having to struggle to get the exclusives.  I hope they don't return to the horrid class warfare days of who can get exclusives and who can't.   Just offer the items online and stay away from the uber-exclusivity which just causes stress and puts a tarnish and brands and collecting in general.

The sight of Daniel Clowes at a comic con itself worth the price of admission

Yes sir.  I can't wait to go to his panel.  Ghost World is one of the best books I've ever read.  It's right there with J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye.  A true masterpiece.

His new book “Monica” is one of the best of the year. Truly one of comics’ true auteurs.

I started going to SDCC when Elvira's Haunted Hills came out in 2002, because she showed it there. Been there every year since, except 2020-2023.

Good times, fun times with friends. Met some really amazing industry peeps at Artist Alley and cool celebrities in the Sail's Pavillion. Geeked out at the Legends and DC Universe reveals and Hasbro/Mattel booths. I used to be an avid comic book collector, so I used to spend hours going thru the stacks at the booths and filling gaps in my collection.

I'm in the entertainment biz so it's always fun to see the cosplayers and some absolutely amazing costumes and to see how proud everyone is of their creations, bad crotch support aside.

The only issues I've ever had with the con are the ridiculous hoops we've had to jump thru to try to get tickets to try and get in the Hasbro booth, all the while watching influencer-types be let in through the exit and get whatever they want. Also, the Twilight years ticked me off because the Twilight people totally looked down on us nerds and openly mocked cosplayers. It got much better once the Twilight movies here over.

The most ironic part of chatting with all of you here is that many of us have been in the exact same place at the exact same time chatting with Dwight and/or Jesse, rolling our eyes at the female double-jointed elbows question at the Hasbro panel year after year, watching the costume contest or hanging out at Artist Alley.

Hopefully we'll get to meet up this year!

Yeah, that's funniest part. How many times did we all come within arm's length of each other in the last 30 years?

With Bushmaster being in today’s One A Day, it made me really hope we get at least a couple new Serpent Society members revealed at SDCC for next year. It feels like it’s been awhile since we’ve had anyone new.

@thor-el Who was the last one, Puff Adder? Yeah, seems like it's time for a new member. Diamondback would be an easy one if they don't have any upcoming tooling budget for Anaconda, Bushmaster, or Death Adder.

@renfield75 correct, I believe Puff Adder was our last addition. And I agree, there’s a number of Society members that would be fairly easy repaints with new heads. Heck, even Rattler could be done with minimal new parts using the Scorpion body and tail as a base.

Sidewinder could also be fairly easy to make. 🙂

Starlin Warlock? overdue? Finally getting him? No way! Buscema Nebula? No way! I can't believe all these figures that have topped my wishlist for years would get announced!

So many of the female Serpents can be made with minimal new parts:

Diamondback

Asp

Black Racer

Black Mamba

Fer-de-Lance

Coachwhip

Really only Anaconda and Princess Python's pet Prescious would need a lot of work.

Couldn't Princess Python's snake just be a bendy toy pack in?

And look at it this way, if they make the snake, they are halfway done to making Bushmaster. And if they make bushmaster, they’re halfway done to making the snake.

Of course, my top hopes are always more Asgardians. But i’m not going to hold my breath.

2025 is the 60th anniversary of the Warriors Three. I'm hoping we'll see them next year... as well as the remainder of the Inhumans who all are celebrating the same anniversary.

But in true Hasbro fashion, they would do a Journey Into Mystery wave, the book that the Warriors three were introduced in, as well as Skurge, Balder and many other Asgardians, and not include any Asgardians or characters that actually appeared in the book.

Even Copperhead could benefit from a lot of Cobra reuse.  And Viper (not Lady Viper) could be 100% reuse, just repainting.  Really, Hasbro could slip us a couple a year, with little trouble.  So they need to step up their SS game.
