Same here, but likely for opposite reasons.ย I came into X-Men in the 80s so I didn't have to suffer thru the early days, but with the rose-tinted glasses of hindsight, I've always preferred the starting class to the Deluxe X-Men.ย There's something appealing about a team of mutants, each with *one* special ability, who use teamwork to maximise those abilities and overcome foes.ย ย
The international team, meanwhile, are just so all-encompassing.ย Wolverine has super-healing, but is also a great tracker, has metal bones and claws.ย Nightcrawler is super-agile with a tail and can climb walls and teleport and looks like a demon.ย Storm has the ability to control anything that just falls under the concept of "weather."ย On the other hand, Colossus has just the one power to become metal, and his role just seemed to be to get his ass beat.ย Like, all the time.
The New X-Men just aren't what I want mutants to be about.ย I would love to have lived in a world where the original X-Men got the New X-Men's storylines.ย That's probably why I loved the New Mutants so much.ย They each had one power (shut up, Magik) that was often uncontrollable or of limited ability.
ย
I disagree with you about the original five, but I strongly agree about Angel being made redundant. Storm, Rogue, and others can fly and do something else.

The middle 70s Defenders are pretty fun comics. The Steve Gerber run is just so weird it is worth a read. Not high art, but most genre comics aren't.
A human Beast body could be FA Beast, Steranko/Adams Beast and a Mimic. Sure there are other characters that could use a body that size. We should play the game of which other characters would work. Obviously with new hands and feet; maybe shorter arms.
Other Xmen bodys they should make that could rearrange my shelves at least. Angular musculature body to get a proper classic IceMan could also be used with Martinex. Bumpy FA IceMan could maybe see some use as Swarm. I'd buy 2 copies of a 70s/80s Cyclops if they made one with the curved Cockrum/Byrne visor and the thin Steranko/Adams visor. The inevitable blue costume Angel would place this red costume one on the Defenders shelf for me.
I would hope they do away with the wedges if they do a classic Valkyrie on the PP body.

The Sons of Serpent story arc is one of my all time favorites, although I have to admit that seeing that damn โelf with a gunโ get run over by a semi shortly after Gerber left the book was incredibly gratifying. 🤣ย

Any idea of the time Angel goes up for preorder?ย
1PM EST according to MarvelousNews.
@tsi, I'm not saying they did, but there was definitely a role Angel could have played in the "persecuted minority" story.ย As someone who lived the life of an elite, he could've given a unique perspective contrasting how he or his family treated the less fortunate with how he is now percieved due to being a mutant.ย Instead we got "I'll fund a mutant-hunting team," but he wasn't so much a poor fit as he was a misused.
ย
ย
That's because Marvel is allergic to actually letting persecuted minorities write X-Men. There's a lot of nuance and interesting directions to be taken in the narrative with characters like Angel, the Maximoffs, etc. and their experience within the marginalized identity of "mutant," but there's only so much you're going to get from a revolving door of straight white men stewarding Marvel's wokest comic, lol.ย
Not everybody has the talent of an Al Ewing or Chris Claremont.ย
35 bucks for Angel isn't too bad. Pre-ordered.ย
Never really cared much for the yellow gloves and boots. I think white is much better. Or maybe I'm feeling nostalgic for the Toy Biz "Brad Pitt Angel" figure. One of my favorites. His wings still look so cool.
Can you re-release the rest of the team now? Nightcrawler is already coming. New Cyclops on a Vulcan body, reissue of Colossus without Popeye arms and crocs, Wolverine with a corect belt. Banshee, etc. You can release this as a set. I'll buy it.

This reminds me how badly I still want a powered down Colossus with his famous blue tights that disappear when he turns metal.
ย
He just paints his legs blue...ย

I always thought his legs were turning blue because his shorts were too tight.ย
Unstable molecule jorts.
I just watched a YouTube video where they debuted a Hasbro Marvel Legends deluxe What If Kahhori figure that comes with a large blue force field, blue translucent Mjolnir and a cool Ten Rings accessory. Has anyone else seen that yet? I figured it was a lock we'd be getting a figure of that character but the accessories with this one were way more than I expected (if it's legit).
I'd love Kahhori, but it looks to be from a person who makes figure mock-ups in 3D, not official.
It states that it's a custom that they were working on. ๐ But looks cool. ๐
