Rachel does seem like the best bet given how close they are to completing Excalibur.

Because I can't just say a nice thing, how great would it have been if they had sculpted boot tops for Vision and Angel? That's one re-use right off the bat. 🙄

That was honestly my second thought, immediately after thinking how awesome the figure looks. Tons of characters have boots and gloves like that! Just make them already!

And I'm not turning negative on Angel at all, because he looks fantastic, but I will reiterate my desire to see all base bodies move to having more modern/updated articulation. If Angel was on the RYV buck (or something similarly articulated) he could get some really elegant midair poses - the waist cut is really starting to stand out as ugly to me, especially where it breaks right through lighter colors.

Wolfsbane is in the leaks for next year, so it'd be amazing if Hasbro managed to finish off both X-Factor and Excalibur.

Ok. As an X-Men only collector the stream today was for me. I think the with 97 wave 2 and the reveals today the line seems to be drawing my attention once more. And IMO the quality of the sculpts were pretty impressive: Goblin Queen, Magneto, Jean, Angel, Lilandra, Patch and Sabretooth all look amazing! I am very happy.

As for Psylocke...well...even if this was one my least wanted looks for Betsy, I actually think this sculpt is really really good. Top 3 with Angel and Sabretooth. The costume, the detailing, the two faces. They nailed it. And it actually makes sense as a costume choice for her in a Wolverine anniversary line.

I just pray that Hasbro won't once more keep a single female character needed to finish a team hostage. They have the mold for Outback Betsy so I'm hoping they won't hold up on her like Feral, Wolfsbane, Marrina and Rachel as Phoenix(who by the way I think the teaser might be for).

For those curious, my most wanted Betsy looks in order of preference are/were: Disassembled, Age of X, Jim Lee, Outback armor, Pink Costume, Opeña, Anka suit, Yellow and Blue training suit, Lady Mandarin and current CB. And yours?

Okay, real quick like, because my girl friend wants me to watch a movie with her.

According to the Introduction to the Champions Marvel Masterworks hardcover, written by creator Tony Isabella, the creation of the team went something like this:

The suits at Marvel decided they needed to publish more titles.  So editors Len Wein and Marv Wolfman held  pitch meetings with writers asking for ideas.  Tony pitched three titles:  Black Goliath (Which he wanted to call Giant-Man), Tigra, and the Champions.  All three got the green light (Yay!) but the Champions saw significant changes by Marvel editorial from what Tony envisioned.  Tony pitched the Champions as a title starring just Iceman and Angel,  a mash up of Route 66 and The Odd Couple.  Two young adventurers, one wealthy and one middle class, traveling across the country helping people.  He wanted to write a buddy book that would have predated Power Man and Iron Fist.  Think Bob Hope and Bing Cosby and all the road movies.  Sounds kinda cool, right?

Nope.  Len said there was a rule that all team books shall have at least five members.  Even though Len wrote a book called the Fantastic FOUR.  As in FOUR.  Not five, FOUR.  But no matter.  Tony had to come up with three more members.

But wait!  New rule!  Every team shall have a strong man.  Every team shall have a woman.  Every team shall have a member that has his own solo book.  For that last one, Len wanted Tony to use Luke Cage.  Well, Tony decided the team was going to be based in Los Angeles since he couldn't use his road concept.  Mr. Cage was firmly ensconced  in Times Square so he was out.  Tony then chose Ghost Rider as the guy having his own book.  Hercules filled out the strong man role and the female was Black Widow, since Tony had just written her out of Daredevil and missed writing about her.

And there you have it.  There's more to it than that, but that's the Readers Digest condensed version.

Before you judge too harshly, remember kids, it's COMICS.  It's a whacky business.  Especially in those early Bronze Age days.  Marvel was a young company.  What made them great was their willingness to take chances and throw ideas against the wall.

Okay, movie, popcorn and cuddle time.  Laters!

I'm not in the market for any kind of Psylocke, but Lady Mandarin is serving double duty annoying people who want a Psylocke AND people who want a Mandarin.

But that Angel is everything I hoped it would be. It's even the color I wanted. No complaints.

I just looked at the Vulcan figure, and he has butterfly shoulders. If this new Angel figure is on the Vulcan body sculpt, why doesn't he has butterfly shoulders like Vulcan.

I love this, and it's sort of exactly what you can intuit happened based on the totally nonsensical lineup of the team. Thanks for sharing!

Knowledge BOMB!  What movie did you watch?  My wife and I both have covid, so movie watching is going to be our weekend.  I'm guessing there's a lot of chick-flick Christmas movies in store......

The pre orders for the Wolverine 50th Ann. 2 Packs on 12/15 are at 12:00 PM ET, right?  Thats what it said during the Pulse live stream.  But I've noticed various websites reporting the pre orders going up at 1:00PM ET.

I can guess with a reasonable amount of confidence. They needed a new upper torso to house the wings. The butterfly joints probably require too much clearance to safely house the wings, so they were cut.

I wish they'd kept Angel's diaphragm articulation. It helps everyone, but especially those who fly.

His hair does look super odd and very un-playboy-ish. The boot tops are SOOOO cheap - just sculpt it! The sculpt would already be amortized with Vision and Angel (and Angel... and Angel). Or, if you refuse to do that, use enough paint on the top part so it matches.

And who wants to bet the ball joint won't match any previous Warren head so we can't mix and match?

I'm severely disappointed in the lack of an unhelmeted Lilandra. That's really what I wanted and nope - gotta hold off. Well, y'know what, Hasbro? I don't want that Brooverine figure so I'll hold off, too.

Sabretooth is cool but not with a Wolverine with TWO NEW HATS! Ugh.

I'm happy Dwight gets a dream figure in (t)his version of Psylocke, and he definitely seems to have done her right. She will probably look great with the X-Men Animated figures - just come up with a cool story for her.

I was also pleasantly pleased when Dwight chose Moondragon as his wildcard. They absolutely nailed those two figures (aside from her painted on details). I've yet to open a Spider-Verse Spot figure to see the butt cheeks they referenced several times, but maybe I should finally crack him open...

@sdcomics Thanks for that info.

I get that this was a time/era specific idea so looking at it 50 years later isn't really fair.  However I think the road trip/buddy/odd couple idea would not have been a great idea.  Granted this was at the time of Convoy/Trucking, hitchiking, etc.  So I can see where the idea came from.

But this was Iceman and Angel, who at the time were not the in depth characters they are now, and not as popular hence why they were out of the X-Men.  So maybe they could have pulled it off with Bobby's humour, but Warren still seems like a stiff, in the bad sense not the "straight man for the funny one" way.

Anyway what do I know.  Again thanks for the info.

If you really think these new head sculpts are bad, I don't know what to tell you...change your taste? This looks like SABRETOOTH. Closer to that old Toy Biz figure.

This looks like a guy with huge head who put dynamite in his mouth

So, now we have Sabretooth and Venom on Omega Red body, just like in the Toy Biz days when Sabretooth, Venom and Omega were on the same molds...
