Why would any of you want to replace the Toybiz Mandarin?Ā You mean to tell me you don't want a giant rubber robe that renders any articulation completely useless?Ā šĀ As much as I like Toybiz, that's one I could never bring myself to track down.
Anyone else a little sad figurelist.co has been down for awhile?
I have visited figurelist several times over the years but never set up an account or invested much in it. I did start using LegendsVerse earlier this year and I really really like it - I paid some nominal fee to sign up ($10 maybe?) but it's more than worth it - it's got a lot of fun features and some fun customizability. The creator/manager of the site Alejandro is very responsive - several times I've sent notes about various things and gotten responses very quickly. As recently as last week I suggested a change to the "Groups" feature, and he made the change and pinged me to check it out within a few hours. He's very responsive to feedback and interested in catering the site to how people want to use it. Definitely recommend it to anyone interested in a good resource/database for their figures!

Yes, but even before it went down they had clearly lost interest.Ā It hadn't been updated in quite a while, and it was HORRIBLY slow.

So, I don't know if anyone has noticed, but all the new art that Marvel has been putting out lately featuring Classic Avengers line-ups all have Carol in her original Ms. Marvel costume. With blue added to her legs.
They seem determined to gaslight us all into believing that she didn't have bare legs back then, and I virtually guarantee that if Hasbro does get around to making a figure of her in this costume, they'll have her legs blue as well. So that's something to NOT be looking forward to. 😤Ā
A couple examples:
I would buy one from that second image if it can pass for a real person so I can have her in my MCU-style Dark Avengers.

And a bare midriff, although by issue 9 they seemed to think that was excessive even for the time so they covered that up.

I looked up the term "gaslighting" because asking people what something means in a forum meant for human interaction usually leads to people being ticked off that you asked a human and not a machine ("GoOgLe iS yOuR FRieNd").Ā Ā
Gaslighting isĀ an insidious form of manipulation and psychological control. Victims of gaslighting are deliberately and systematically fed false information that leads them to question what they know to be true, often about themselves. They may end up doubting their memory, their perception, and even their sanity.
Now that I know this, I question whether Ms. Marvel was EVER pantsless.Ā I mean, I SEE the cover to issue one, but is it just in my mind?Ā Am I going crazy????Ā Is EVERYTHING I know a lie??????
Ā
Or maybe Carol got chilly and decided to put on some pants? I think itās so funny to think these characters have ONE outfit that they have to wear indefinitely in all situations. Iām just waiting to see Ms. Marvelās winter wardrobe next!

You don't hear Quick Kick complaining š

Heheh even Quick Kick got pants and shoes and a shirt eventually.
[canāt figure out how to post an image here, but look up āQuick Kick Pursuit of Cobraā and you will see what I mean]
As for Carol: honestly, Iām good with the pants, and I definitely donāt need the bare midriff. Iām usually pretty into āfirst appearanceā and early/classic looks, but not so much with all the bare skin here. Not about prudishness or anything like that, just seems uninspired, especially as a āfemale versionā of Mar-Vell. Although ultimately I prefer Carolās āWarbirdā identity and costume that gave her her own separate and unique persona . . . although I still think she needs some pants.
Ā
That first image of Carol with blue legs is particularly annoying because they didn't even bother to match her legs to the blue on the rest of her costume, which has heavy shadows and black accents. Leaving the legs a lighter blue makes it stand out more as 'wrong' in my mind. Otherwise, honestly, I don't mind it so much as a look even if it is inaccurate.

On a semi-related note, the 1944 movie 'Gaslight' (where the term came from) is absolutely phenomenal and worth a watch if you've never seen it. The protagonist's abusive husband, in order to make her doubt her own sanity, turns down the gas to dim their lights then tells her she's imagining that it's darker (hence the title). He then does a lot of increasingly worse things. It's a very well done thriller, and features a teenage Angela Lansbury!
Marvel should have been gradually shading Carolās legs darker over the course of years. Pantslighting.
