@hulkster1 there is a guy on youtube who does video comparisons of the original and the two different unofficial versions. The one you can buy now is probably version two, which is actually worse than the first ko version.

Thanks. I’ll check out some videos.

Looks like I’ll have to wait for a new classic Spidey. If it ever happens again!

Yeah, um, can we get actual Halloween characters? Starting with Dracula, Werewolf By Night, Frankenstein's Monster, Simon Garth, Living Mummy?

Friggin’ preach, brother. I’d love to get updated versions of all those guys. They’re basically the last ToyBiz figures I keep on my shelf.

I mean it makes sense to try to raise a lady Spidey villain up in the ranks of his rogue's gallery. Black Cat is really the only one in the A- to B+ range. Madame Web and Silver Sable prob in the B- to C+ range. Though I guess it's par for the course with classic comics characters. What male classic character has more than one A list lady villain? Batman with Poison Ivy and Catwoman only one that comes to mind.

I mean; I get it. It keeps tooling costs down and keeps some form of Spider-Man on the shelves at all times. Just think they could space it out a little better. You'd think the A lister villains would warrant a figure or improvement every 3 or so years. They still haven't displaced my TB classic Kraven or Vulture. As great as their Vulture head sculpt is not sculpting the texture in his body suit keeps him block. Comic Kraven in true Silver Age painting scheme remains undone after like 3 attempts. Classic Goblin still floating around half finished. There are others obviously.

To your first point, we definitely need more notable female villains. Mystique (and eventually Destiny) are the only ladies on my entire Marvel villains' shelf. Batman has Ivy, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn, though they could all be classified as anti-heroes now.

To your second point, absolutely yes. I know redos are sometimes a sore subject around here, but you don't get Namorita and Justice without Black Panther v214 and Vision v109. The new body molds are such an improvement on the Bucky Cap body that you could make a case for updating nearly all of Spider-Man's rogues.

Personally, I've been desperate to buy a new Doc Ock with bendy wire tentacles and I hope to cause such a fuss about a new Green Goblin with a dedicated sculpt that I get Hasbro's attention. I'd add Electro, Rhino, and Chameleon to your list.

Spencer's run was my jumping off point too, I just completely gave up on modern Spider-Man once that went down in flames. Everything I know about this current run is mostly hearsay, but I have peeked it out a little for myself here or there.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't think any writer is going to be able to dig the book out of the trenches, no matter how good they might be. I think one of the reasons Zdarsky's stuff works is because he's sticking with writing Spider-Man in offshoots and non-canon stuff. The main title just has too much editorial meddling going on for anything worthwhile to actually happen in it.

I also realized that Marvel's main Spider-Man comic is aimed at a much younger audience than the rest of what I read from them (which is Al Ewing's excellent new Thor title, DD, and a ton of X-Men). I don't have any hard feelings about it. It just isn't my bag.

That said, I will be picking up Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man title when it starts.

@tsi Duh. How do I leave out Harley. Batman is amazing to have 3 A List female characters in his rogue's gallery. Even if they are anti-heroes they can still be in his gallery. They are opponents as often as not. No other male superhero comes close. Thor is maybe the closest with the Enchantress, Hela and Karnilla. None of which are A list characters; although all really cool characters I like.

The longer my Superior Foes goes without an Overdrive, the more I think we're never getting him. You're right there at the goal, Hasbro, you've been there for YEARS.

At this point, the entire team needs to be redone. Which they will do by releasing a set...

Honestly? I'm still good with what we got for most of them, buuuuuuuut I would like a redo of that Boomerang. The weird grimace and spotty paint on every one never sat right with me.

I think most people around here would rather his classic look get a figure before that, though.

Thanks!

I went searching last night and saw this. It would be so easy to fall for one of the knockoffs if you weren’t paying attention.

I think I’ll play it safe and see what comes down the pipeline.  Something tells me that Hasbro might offer another classic Spider-Man at some point. 😉

Thanks again!

Not sure why anyone would want the 2020 retro Spidey at all at this point except for one thing--to get those two head sculpts.  One is Romita style, the other is Ditko style, and they're both ABSOLUTELY sublime.  I'd pay $100 just for those two heads.  Memory is telling me they fit on the RYV mold and AF15 molds, but maybe not 100% well, can't remember.

So the real question about the bootlegs is how the head sculpts are, and do they fit on the newer molds.  If they're fine and fit the Hasbro figures then they may be well worth it.

In my case it’s simply that the 2020 Retro Spidey best represents the character from the mid-‘70s up to the mid/late ‘80s.  That’s my favorite incarnation of the character.

I have the Amazing Fantasy and RYV figures, which I like quite a bit. But I don’t have a figure front the era I described.

They *have* to release the Renew Your Vows Spider-Man as a solo, right? Right?

I'm actually considering selling my Retro Spidey to offset the cost of an RNV box, but don't really want to give up that Romita head.

A rerelease of RYV Spidey is a definite. Maybe with a little bit of tweaking or two, but there will be a rerelease.

@hulkster1 Hopefully with a new head. I don't particularly care for the RYV head, I preferred the Retro carded heads. Also prefer the blue on the retro.

Word to the wise, you can swap the heads on the Retro Ben Reilly and RYV Spider-Man, to the improvement of both I feel.

The reds are about as close of a match as you could realistically ask for
