I'm surprised and mildly disappointed that these were the reveal rather than the Spider-Man retro card wave that I was expecting, but I know that our MCU collector brethren have been left a little thirsty lately so I'm happy for them.

Of these 3 figures shown, I'm definitely in for Joaquin Torres Falcon. I will always buy a character that I don't already have represented in my collection.

I'm definitely out on Sam-Cap. I've never really dug Sam as Cap and I already recently just bought the Target comic deluxe version for $10 on clearance. I'm good there.

I have mixed feelings on the Red Hulk, similar to how I felt about the recent movie Colossus that I ultimately passed on. It looks good, but I strongly prefer comic based figures and I already have the 2 comic iterations that Hasbro has done. This one looks like it could easily fit into a comic collection, though. It's one that I may only get if I ever see it at a heavily discounted price. I'm still ultimately undecided on Rulk for now.

Every licensor has a collection of reference material for their products, it's just more of a question of if they make the licensee adhere to it or not. Disney has been notoriously controlling in the past, but I don't know if that extends to Marvel. With a new movie figure, yeah, Hasbro is probably more or less forced to go with whatever Marvel gives them. For longtime comic book costumes though they probably have reference art and they also have basically every image ever published by Marvel over the past 100 years. They are likely only truly limited when it comes to what art they can put on the package. I would guess for 99% of the comic figures, Hasbro can use whatever look it wants as the basis for a figure and then it's on Marvel to approve it. And I would guess, at this point, Hasbro knows what will and won't get approval and for those 99% there aren't any issues. It's when they wade into the more controversial characters where they probably have to do more back and forth, like the scantily clad Goblin Queen or demonic characters. And even then, I'm not sure if it's really a Marvel/Disney thing with those designs or if it's Hasbro internally.

Nah, they had a good run for many years. Tons of figures with a new sculpt. Imports too.

Comic collectors on the other hand just recently got rid of a Bucky Cap body...

New Falcon is a very impressive figure, I just couldn’t care less about the character, no disrespect to the actor, he didn’t write F&WS.

I *really* want a comic Joaquin Torres Falcon figure, and while his MCU form is obviously very different with the mechanical wings, it might be close enough for me to squint...

Related to this I've always been surprised that Hasbro commissions new art for most Legends packages instead of just using existing art from Marvel.  My guess has always been that they think it draws more interest to the item, but given that even hardcore fans like us haven't seen 90% of Marvel's art and have mostly forgotten the small percentage of Marvel's complete repository of art that we have seen my explanation never fully satisfied me. I have to wonder if it's Marvel's decision that Hasbro can't use their art on packaging.

Anyone have more concrete information about why Hasbro does so much original packaging art?

We all know Hasbro loves the close but not quite. It’s a feature of their product not a flaw. Really lame when its characters / looks they are unlikely to do again in years. I mean they did it with their blue Quicksilver when they didn’t paint his neck and used an old Magneto headsculpt they had in the reject pile.

One reason is it hides when they ignore the decades-old designs and do their own "thing." So the figure resembles only the art that was commissioned to accompany the figure - they just did this with Rogue from the Destiny set and it really annoys me and they did it with VHS Jean and her backwards bangs. And as mentioned, Quicksilver.

It also may be a rights/residuals/royalties thing - they control new assets completely whereas older art assets could be more murky in if the artist is owed money for the usage so they just sidestep the issue.

But if the original art that I throw away nine out of ten figures is adding to the cost, I would love for that to be eliminated and just use existing.

So the Legends reveals from MCM are just the Brave New World figures, right? Nothing else?

They prob own outright all their art from the 30s to the 80s but don’t want to wade into the conflict with past creators that might draw press interest. Then you see the the Figuarts One:Twelve stuff covered in Ditko, Kirby and Sprang Art

Are those 3 the only Brave New World figures? Are they all going up on 28th?

I bet they are, but a Leader figure was on the rumor list. And Sam may be the only one going up then.

@e-rock it makes sense we haven't yet, but I wonder how he'll be released. Are they really shipping cases of MCU Leaders to stores?

It seems so, but remember the 1027 event is tomorrow so we'll see some more new stuff there too. Having these three events (NYCC, MCM, 1027) in a little over a week is probably why they haven't shown too much at any one of them.
