@panthercult regarding the swirly lines on Destiny’s mask, I just watched Robo’s review, and his has the swirls too. It’s definitely intentional.
I don't have my set yet, but I noticed it in Robo's review. I think it's supposed to be shading.
An unmasked Destiny or non-evil Rogue head would've been a nice inclusion.
They let it slip ages ago that Mindless One would get a solo re-release with new deco. That would be a pretty underwhelming announce for NYCC but it tracks. Fin Fang Foom would be better, but there has also been some discussion of Animated color redecos of a Sentinel - not sure which tooling they'd use, but I'd think a smaller version than the Haslab, maybe the DOFP version?
where's this slip at? first ive heard of it
I generally like not to complain because there's plenty of that to go around, but I'm definitely having a hard time stomaching this set at $50. I wouldn't have expected it to be less given that's what a 2-pack costs, but comparing it against similar offerings the difference is glaring.
I can rattle off a list of accessories that would have worked (a crossbow, extra heads for both, another Mystique transforming head, etc) - but rather than loading the box out you know what I would have wanted more than anything? Sculpted boots and a waist cut for Destiny. Really getting tired of buying figures with painted on details.
So all of these are excellent points - the comparison to the other two packs that just came out loaded with extra heads and accessories is an indictment on the choices made for this set - so here's what I think is going on. They cheaped out on this set so hard because they anticipate it might go to clearance and may even have had some sort of money back deal with retailers for any sets that have to be discounted to ensure they'd carry it... that would make it make more sense for such a bare bones offering
The Rogue/Destiny two-pack and Phoenix just showed up at my door from Amazon. Also, the rest of the Strange Tale waves is scheduled for next Monday. AND just got a notice that the Spider-Verse wave is supposed to ship around the middle of the month.
I may actually cancel the Spider-Verse wave. Too much stuff hitting at once, and I'm honestly not too excited abotu that wave. Feel like it'll be readily available for a while.
i actually just ended up canceling mine, same reasons. I can live without
You never know with Hasbro's multi-pack releases. Some easily attainable figures get re-releases while others are ignored. Hell, even their three-pack classic Daredevil hasn't gotten a non-S:TAS re-release yet.
Keep in mind "space" is a big issue with the legends team and finding a right home. They never really re-release a legend in the same "format". Weather it be BAF/Part of a baf wave/Single Carded/Vintage/Box Set, Two Pack, etc... it usually only gets 1 of those boxes checked at a time.
Daredevil Born Again next year could make it a pretty big year for Daredevil... so id imagine we will see some comic figure love as that would be ideal "space" for that figure to show back up.
It's the Perlmutter tax. 2 pack with 2 ladies. For it to exist at all its gotta come out on the cheap. hell just a reformed Rogue head and an unmasked Destiny head would have done it. Or a crossbow for Destiny. Hell; cast it into her hand.
They should have just sneaked over to the G.I. Joe factory and lifted the mold for retro Scarlett's crossbow. Of course, as she is Destiny couldn't hold it because she only has fists and splayed hands.
I'm wondering if they didn't include the alternate Paul Smith Rogue portrait so they can release the figure again later with that head... that's a pretty Hasbro thing to do. Rogue will get more releases. I'm not sure Destiny gets another figure ever again.
It is also possible that the other two-packs had retailer orders that were 25% or 50% (or some percentage) higher than the Rogue/Destiny pack, so they had a bigger budget to work with. I am sure at this point Hasbro can estimate how much retail interest a set is going to have and budgets accordingly.
Or maybe they just felt that extra heads wouldn't matter too much for these characters? The very fact that we are assuming Destiny gets made once is acknowledging that this is more of a niche set anchored by a popular character in maybe their fourth or fifth most popular look.
Decided not to get too annoyed by the lack of accessories with the two pack, but I do wish there was more ROM in Rogue's torso. Just a strange choice. I'm sure it was to not mess up the lines of her outfit but they've improved the torso range the past few years by so much it's pretty noticeable.
I wish Phoenix's phoenix stand came with instructions. I'm not entirely sure I put it together correctly. Really nice upgrade for Jeanie though.

It's still crazy. I'm pretty sure classic comic DD hasn't gotten a single-carded release since the Hobgoblin wave. That was nine years ago. He's one of Marvel's 15 most-popular heroes, maybe even top 10.
I don't really buy the "space" thing. Hasbro doesn't put out a fixed number of figures every year. It might be around the same number, but nothing is stopping them from adding him to a Spider-Man retro wave or releasing him as a stand-alone figure through Fan Channel.
I sold the mediocre Hobgoblin wave figure a couple years after it came out. When the three-pack came out, I thought it'd be smarter to wait, but I wanted to have a Matt in my collection after years without one. It's a good thing I caved, too. That figure is fantastic and costs a fortune on the secondary market now.

I can't understand it. It's two steps forward and one step back with the Legends team sometimes. They finally give the ladies double-jointed elbows and butterfly joints and now they're back to making aesthetic choices.
They're action figures. They have ugly cuts and joints. If we cared, we'd collect statues.
If they didn't want to break the line of Rogue's costume they could have at least made up for it by giving her butterfly joints. That would have given her a lot more expression, and she is a flyer/fighter. Also, Destiny gets SO MUCH MORE movement out of her neck joint vs Rogue that Rogue really could use.
And they are totally going to re-release her with hood up insteading of including it here. Very lame.
They could have included a glove holding hand and an ungloved hand. As silly as they are, for this character, I love that. Or even a power effect that either one of them could use.
I have no reference for Destiny using a crossbow, but for those that want it they could have re-used the crossbow that MCU MoM Mordo came with. He certainly never used it.
Also, I appreciate Rogue's sculpted gloves. But I'm really over painted on boots. They just did this with Crystal (not to mention Phoenix), Destiny - just stop. Boots have dimension!
I'm wondering if they didn't include the alternate Paul Smith Rogue portrait so they can release the figure again later with that head... that's a pretty Hasbro thing to do.
Of course they will. With the light green stripes painted white.

Isn't there some legal reason they can't do this? Gone are the Mego part swap days. Curt Connors Gorn and all
That’s a good idea to use MCU Mordo crossbow, but good luck finding color matched grip hand to hold it. She just has open and fists.
Also, I don’t think Rogue could fly at this point in her appearances. Not that she doesn’t need more neck range, but she doesn’t necessarily need it to pose flying.
Also, I don’t think Rogue could fly at this point in her appearances.
Her first appearance is in Avengers Annual #10, and that's the same issue she stole Ms. Marvel's powers. So at the start of that issue she couldn't fly, but by the end she could. She had Ms. Marvel's powers from her first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #158 onwards. She wore a different costume in #158 shown below, but they did put her back into the costume that this figure has in issues after #158. She was still a villain as of #158, but Claremont flipped her and she asked the X-Men to help her starting in #171.
This costume has a darker-shaded color that I never fully understood what color they were going for that's evident in the cover to #171 shown below, but the style of it does match this costume so maybe I'm just misunderstanding the coloring and this figure does match it perfectly. The coloring discrepancy reminds me of the confusion surrounding Storm's white/silver/black costume where we were never sure from the shading which of those colors it was supposed to be. Anyone know what they're going for on the cover to #171 below? It's shaded like that inside of both Avengers Annual #10 and Uncanny X-Men #171--I just checked and confirmed that. I know they're doing it to communicate that it's a shiny plastic kind of material like Storm had, but what actual color it is with flat, even lighting such as the figure has to have confuses me.

Depends on the license agreement and to what extent, but since GI Joe is Hasbro's own property perhaps they wouldn't care. Then again, it may be a case of "one hand not knowing what the other is doing" where Hasbro's legal dept would take issue. In other words, who knows.
