The Green Goblin re-release is another gut punch after Magik a few months ago. Looks like a redo isn't on the cards for at least a couple more years.

On one hand, I'm glad Hasbro is rereleasing figures! Great for new collectors or anyone who wants to double up.

On the other, we SERIOUSLY need a new Green Goblin on a different body at this point, oh my god. Haven't they already conned enough suckers (I'm included in that) into buying the inevitable upgrade with the big, super dilated pupils they decided to give this one? Do we really have to wait even longer for that redo now?

Maybe they're just doing this to placate people who want a classic Green Goblin when they make a more modern design into a figure in the next year or two. A Warren Ellis Thunderbolts Green Goblin would be a cool figure! I know, I'm totally delusional.

The Star Wars re-releases make sense - the Marvel ones not as much. SW characters don't have as many outfits and require unique molds (mostly). But re-releasing exact figures instead of say Professor X with his Animated Series chair or an updated Magik in a new outfit or pinless Goblin - these don't make sense. Why appeal to only one type of customer - the customer who missed out - instead of appealing to both that customer AND the ones who already have that figure?

Side-effect is Hasbro doesn't crater aftermarket values because the old product would retain some unique value. But that would be beneficial to long-time customers.

Yeah,  was really hoping for a jumpsuit Chuk - even just using the Hank Pym body from the WCA set rather than a straight rerelease of the suited body version.   Frankly, I'd have taken Chuck in his yellow onesie with the big black X before I needed a straight rerelease of this.

Now I have to see if I can source one of those Pym figures to make a jump suit Chuck.    It seems like an easy lay up and extra sales just to swap in a different body.

It's cheaper. Magik and GG need new parts (or entirely new sculpts).

This way Hasbro can get the new collector now and then hit them again (along with long-time collectors) when we inevitably get upgrades.

For me, the difference is the Magik figure was always bad. It wasn't a good figure in 2018, and it's even worse now. It's small and poorly articulated. Magik is almost the exact same size (height and weight) as Jean. The Green Goblin figure is at least passable, even if it's mediocre.

I'm surprised by this reaction to a rerelease - I really don't think of these as being made in place of some other potential thing I want more, they're just producing more of a thing that sold through a while ago for people who missed out - isn't that a common request? A rerelease of this Xavier obviously doesn't preclude the rumored jumpsuit version from getting made soon - the Warlord Professor X is literally shipping right now. If anything, my cynical read on these is that a new Magik, Green Goblin, and Professor X are right around the corner.

You have to take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. Magik is probably my favorite Marvel character and I don't think she's ever had a good figure. She definitely hasn't had a good figure in a costume I like. I go into every Hasbro Marvel livestream hoping to see her revealed. To me, this is kicking the can down the road. Hasbro recognizes that she's hugely popular and hasn't been made in a while, but can't put the resources toward doing it correctly.

I feel similarly about GG, but not as strongly. Again, I've been asking for a new Goblin since they revealed the first one on this body in 2016. None of Hasbro's Green Goblins are as good as the Toy Biz ML13 figure from 2006.

Hasbro has crushed so many characters recently that I can't help but take Magik/GG a little personally. Classic Loki is the other redo I've been championing for a while, yet it feels as if these figures are as far away now as they were pre-Marvel Legends. I freely admit it's silly. I try to be as objective as I can, but sometimes it stings.

As far as other re-releases, yes. I fully agree. Things that are creeping up on the aftermarket that don't need to be redone? Hell yeah, get them out there. We've got a great Marvel Legends Spider-Man, Daredevil, Beast, etc., etc., etc. Everyone should have access to those figures. I'm one of the many who thinks A-listers should be available as frequently as possible. We're all invested in the health of this hobby. The best way to keep it strong is by making good figures of major characters available at retail price.

i agree with TSI here -  that in the case of things like Magik and Green Goblin, these re-releases are sort of place holders for popular characters where they don't plan to spend the money in the near future to get the character right, and this is a way to get them into people's hands that missed them the last time around.

With the Professor X figure though - I feel like Jumpsuit X is such an easy lay up reuse.   The jumpsuit body exists.   The Professor X head exists.   They could put the two together and do a new release of that same chair with a new version of the Professor and sell it to way more people than just re-releasing the same figure they already sold.

I feel like they missed a bet on that.   And I'm sure they'll still eventually release jumpsuit Xavier eventually, he's too easy not to do.   But it does feel like they wasted a chance there by simply re-releasing the prior version.

Of all the recent rereleases, I think Silver Surfer was a good choice. That's still a nice figure that includes most of what you'd want to come with the character. Sure, it could be on an updated body or have a more alien headsculpt if that's what you prefer, but this one holds up. Not many complaints there.

Green Goblin holds up less so. Eye paint is off, there's no butterfly joints, and he doesn't even have any interchangeable hands. It's even more egregious since we have a new Jack O'Lantern with all these extra features, which makes the Goblins feel extra lackluster by comparison. There's still major room for improvement.

I do think that these rereleases don't necessarily preclude Hasbro from making new figures of these characters in different costumes soon, though. A yellow and black costume Magik, Tbolts Goblin, or jumpsuit Professor X still feel like they could come soon after these. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

Is this the thread to discuss the Sentinels? Got a few of these, and they are very cool. I love the height and proportions. I really like how their large pauldrons are built into the shoulder ball itself. I think this design would have worked better for Neo-Classic Iron Man.

I also like the bulk of their pinless armored limbs. Definitely hoping for some appropriate reuse. The Sentinels have a more “muscular” thicker armored sculpt than Neo-Classic Iron Man, and it looks great.

The colors are vibrant and fun. The deco on the face looks cool, especially the shadows around the eyes which make the eyes pop.

Overall, these are a really fun set. Happy to see army builder two-packs like these Sentinel and the Outriders. Hope Hasbro makes Dreadnaught robots in this kind of format!

Crystal and Lockjaw are up on Amazon if anyone's waiting for the drop. September 30 is a very intriguingly early shipping date, wonder if that's in error,

Wow... I'm not getting that but I saw some speculating $60, some hoping for $50. Yikes.

Wow, and set to arrive at the end of this month as well. *sigh*

I pre-ordered it, but I admit I wish I could just get Crystal. Perfectly happy with the Lockjaw from the old SDCC set I have already to be honest. And $70? Guh.

EDIT: Just cancelled my pre-order. I can't justify that. Maybe I'll find Crystal loose on eBay later.

There's that price creep again! Cost yourself a sale, Hasbro. I was very excited to finally get Crystal - I was even going to get two!

Now I'm not getting any until this comes down to a reasonable price. One almost full-reuse character and one new character does not equal $70. F that.
