Whelp, I caved and ordered Black Winter, Wolfsbane, and Ka-Zar. So like many others I'll soon have my three-legged Zabu since Cable seems to be a no-show.
And having Wolfsbane also means I caved and bought Maverick, Sunspot, and Warpath to finish my Strong Guy.
Damn this habit.
<sniff> I'm so proud of you right now...
I mean, I wanted the green buck ("but he should've been bigger than the female mold!" let's be realistic, no company is doing the same mold slightly larger)...
Or smaller since the current majority thinking among paleontologists is that female rexes were bigger than males, although there's no wide consensus on that since they can't even tell the gender of most fossils. Either way you're right that they've already got the rex molds that they aren't going to replace just to depict the genders slightly differently.
I mean, anthropologically, that could track, needing to protect the young, and all. I like it.
I've been using the exclusive "rainy" Rexy as a male, with the regular release as Rexy herself. Ray rhat rive rimes rast, Raggy!
So my plan was to toss Black Winter right into a donation box...but damn, it's a really nice figure!
The wild hair, the translucent cape, the hammer effect piece...I might have to keep him.
Just waiting on Ikarus & Cable now.

Plus it's a character that they're likely never to touch again.... I'm personally all about world building and having the most different characters I can get.
That's why I get so annoyed with the constant re-dos of the same characters that we've had dozens of times over.... but I also get that those same characters keep selling whereas the lesser known characters likely don't. I just personally only want one definitive version of main universe Spider-Man, Wolverine, Cap, etc. and I don't want to constantly have to upgrade on that character, but I'll new take totally brand new characters every single time, no matter how obscure.
I don't even care if it's a repaint if it represents a completely separate character. So what that this Black Winter is a repaint of a Thor we already got. That's exactly how he was represented in the comic. Web-Man was a Spidey repaint that only appeared in one comic issue ever. I still love it much more than just another version of 616 Spidey or even Miles at this point. Iron Man 2020? Superior Iron Man? I'd much rather have those just another regular main universe Tony Stark Iron Man armor any day.
I'm the same way re: wanting as many unique characters as possible. But at some point in the last few years I've just embraced the nature of the line, and try to greet new costume variations of a-listers with similar enthusiasm. Another 616 Spidey or Wolverine is never going to make my top 10 list, but I know we're going to keep getting them, and I'm going to end up picking up a lot of them - might as well be excited and enjoy it!
Black Winter represents a kind of figure in ML that I really love - not something I was asking for because it wasn't even on my radar, but now that there is a figure I'm going to read the story it's from to get excited for it. ML is the primary way I stay engaged with more recent Marvel Comics.
They experimented with this guy. The chest harness is ok, but the way the belt “continues” the straps that wrap around the lower abs is weird.
They experimented, but why? They've shown they know how to do this the right way with Cyclops and Hawkeye.
They couldn't do with Cable what they did with Cyclops and Hawkeye because of the design of Cable's straps from most of the artwork I've seen of him in this costume. Both Cyclops and Hawkeye have straps that are further in towards the center of their bodies, and that allows the two parts of the upper torso that stick down past the top of the lower torso to hide the sides of the straps. Cable's are further out on the sides so they can't be hidden inside of the ab crunch like the other two are.
I wondered this as well back when they first showed the promo shots--and posted about this exact thing earlier in this thread--but if you spend a few minutes thinking about why you can't see the sides of Cyclops's straps then you realize they're being hidden inside of the sculpt in a way they couldn't do with Cable and still match most of the art.
Wolfsbane's range of motion is very little, just kinda an inaction figure.
I'm finding her pretty frustrating as well - her legs can't crouch enough! She needed drop-down hips or more clearance in the sculpt than they allowed, which really limits her Lycan poses - plus, her ankles need way more bend forward ability - they barely go "up" at all.
She's a weird figure I think they rushed out when the movie schedule shifted, which is a bummer for everyone who waited so long.
Got my Rahne last night, and yeah, I couldn't get her into the same pose as the Walgreens figure, and it's not like that one has better or more articulation. Plus all her joints feel super gummy. Shoulders, hips, neck, elbows, knees, wrists, ankles, biceps, thighs. And that f***ing orange. *sigh*
Also, I'm still waiting on Ka-Zar. They charged me Monday for both, but only shipped her for some reason. And then I get the e-mail that Cable is "soon," and it's like, ship what I paid for first, please? Lol

Just team him up with the white Iron Man from this wave and the Hydra Captain America as an Evil Avengers type team for a display.
Orange Wolfsbane will probably get the orange Tigra treatment "we heard your complaints, so here she is with another color scheme... in a boxset..."
And I would buy it. Just put her in there with a new Quicksilver and a couple of Multiple Men.

They might have to change some things up to get people like me to double dip. A Wolfsbane recolor in the exact same outfit wouldn't be enough to get me to buy a bunch of figures I already have. But, if they included like, Quicksilver in that blue and yellow "X" costume that was pictured a few pages back, and did a different version of Polaris - maybe with a different hairstyle - or if they included Shard. That would get me to consider it.
