I pulled out some extra straps from a Deadpool or Cyclops to try to cover up the weirdly painted boots, but the yellow can come off the blue plastic so I might just use some acetone. Maybe even pull the straps down to the calf cut.

They experimented with this guy. The chest harness is ok, but the way the belt “continues” the straps that wrap around the lower abs is weird. Should have just been one piece, plugging in at the traps to keep from breaking up. The forearms are strangely thin, maybe to allow for more bend range in the elbows? I don’t care for the guns reuses from Silvermane, because they just look too small for Cable. Aside from those nits, I’m pretty pleased with him and will be looking to upgrade him wherever possible.

They experimented, but why?  They've shown they know how to do this the right way with Cyclops and Hawkeye.  It's like a car designer experimenting with the wheel, finding a worse version, then going with that.

This Cable kind of triggers me.  X-Men 97 hype would have sold me on this if there weren't so many issues.

Aren’t you the guy who loved experimentation when Toy Biz did it? Seems that’s what Hasbro is doing here. I wouldn’t say that all of it is successful in this case. Some people may like how they approached the harness. It eliminates gaps and rising up or down or around. The boots are definitely a misstep. But there’s great stuff going on in other places. Proportions are great. Only his right arm still has pins. He’s overall really sturdy and his face sculpt is another winner.

Yeah, these two look great with some Jurassic Park figures.  Even some of the Hammond Collection can work in as pinch!

@h-bird Gawd, I loved Pietro in that series. That X-Factor was firing on all cylinders. Great team chemistry, absolute shenanigans, Strong Guy trolling EVERYONE. Just a wonderful book and that art was on fire.

@enigmaticclarity Yeah, that Drizz't panther was really top notch when it came out - I actually picked up a second set when Pulse put it on clearance so I could put a panther with T'Challa too. And honestly Hasbro's just gotten better with each new animal companion. Timber and Junkyard in the Joes line is superb (as is Croc Master's croc) and they did a fantastic job with some other D&D monsters, so I've been hoping Marvel Legends would benefit from those really great designs. I can honestly say movement, smooth joints, balance, overall articulation, all that stuff - Zabu's the best one I've seen so far. And I say that as someone who literally has had Timber next to my work laptop permanently since I took him out of the package. I don't want them all to be BAFs, but I'll support any other Marvel animal figures they release.

(Am I silently judging the non-articulated McFarlane Krypto right now? Maybe. MAYBE.)

Man did I screw up. I had forgot I had this wave pre-ordered from Pulse and did a pre-order on GameStop. Both are processing now. Once I get the wave in from GameStop I will do a return but for shipping through FedEx so my store doesn't get a negative review from GameStop corporate.

Had some more observations about Cable:

  • The fingers on my copy's left trigger grip hand are stubby, as if the mold ran out of plastic before finishing, leaving off his fingertips. I'll just use his left grasp hand instead.
  • There are seams sculpted onto his trunks that would have delineated where the blue paint would have been. I'm so glad they chose not to paint those hips.
  • They really should have left off the yellow paint from his calves. I'll very likely remove it with acetone, but leave the straps I added. The sculpt of the calves shows muscles and veins, not smooth like the boots.
  • I can't find a suitable rifle for him. I had bought a bunch of Hope Summers on clearance for fodder a decade ago, and I'm surprised I can't find any of those rifles. Maybe the rifle from Bonebreaker...

It's easy to fudge the 1:18 scale Hammond Collection figures in with 1:12 scale figures and just imagine that they're young versions of the adults.

I do hope someone eventually does some 1:12 scale carnivores though, particularly the highly articulated T-Rex every dinosaur action figure fan pines for.  If Mattel would do that as a crowdfunded campaign it's difficult to imagine it not funding.

It really is just so good. To anyone who hasn't had the pleasure - go read it now, while Strong Guy can still be built relatively cheap! I'm sure we'll get another crack at Havok, Polaris, and Multiple Man, but I can't imagine him coming out again.

Whelp, I caved and ordered Black Winter, Wolfsbane, and Ka-Zar. So like many others I'll soon have my three-legged Zabu since Cable seems to be a no-show.

And having Wolfsbane also means I caved and bought Maverick, Sunspot, and Warpath to finish my Strong Guy.

Damn this habit.

@fuzzybluedemon I love this pic, thanks for posting!   It really shows how well the Mattel dinos go with Kazar & Zabu.  Love the way Hammond Rex looks there, and I might just do the same and avoid tracking down one of the colossal T-Rex's now.

If Mattel did a HasLab sort of thing with an articulated 1/12 T-Rex I'd jump on it in a second, and I tend to pass on HasLabs as too expensive.

Mattel does do crowdfunding projects like Haslab, plus high-priced items that aren't crowdfunded:

https://creations.mattel.com/pages/mattel-creations

They did a Jurassic Park gates crowdfund last year that came nowhere CLOSE to funding:

https://creations.mattel.com/products/jurassic-world-the-gates-crowdfund-htv56

I kinda figured it wouldn't fund because they tried to up the price by packing in a 1:18 scale T-Rex that had already been available on the market in a different color for well over a year when the crowdfund ran, and I was really banging my head against the wall wondering why the entire project wasn't a 1:12 scale rex instead which I strongly feel WOULD have funded.  Nothing would have gone better with Ka-Zar and Zabu than a rex--other than of course a red-colored rex that we're unlikely to ever see that would stand in for Devil Dinosaur.

I mean, I wanted the green buck ("but he should've been bigger than the female mold!" let's be realistic, no company is doing the same mold slightly larger)...

I could've done without the Explorer, though. I only have one, and screen accuracy is two, but I don't have the space, and that could've brought the price down a little (though I was 100% willing to pay what they were asking for all of it). Plus, it was cheaper than any HasLab, IIRC. AND because Mattel Creations allows Shop Pay, installments were available, unlike Pulse (I could've gotten that f***ing G.I. Joe helicopter if they did).
