@jayjonah Ah man that sucks. I get that though. My Gamestop knows me pretty well and gives me the heads up about new preorders being available.
I need a new Domino in the blue/purple Greg Capullo costume to go with that Cable. The original 5 inch Toy Biz figure of her was released in the same wave as Cable in this yellow/blue costume back in the 90s. It's my top favorite look for her.
@stormcloud … and she absolutely has to have the new torso articulation. I’m hoping they do an implementation of the same articulation in a torso without fabric texture/zipper detail for Shanna so that the articulation standard for all females going forward can come up to the standard that the male bucks more often have.
@panthercult Also, Disney. Another publicly traded company. It is interesting to see what is deemed risque to release at retail and what isn't. So many WWE figures are nigh-naked, so I imagine it's not just skin being shown. But what kind of costume is on and what kind of history/context those costumes have had.
@trunks3540 I do believe that if/when they make Shanna (seems like a safe bet given Ka-Zar and Zabu) they'll base her on the same art they based the Marvel Infinite figure on, and this conversation will happen again because "it's not comic accurate" is a stand-in for "it's not based on a sexy enough design" even though there seems to be some embarrassment about admitting that.
I think I mentioned if earlier when I saw the pic of the small figure, but I would be ok with this. It looks practical, and it is comic accurate. If this is what they went with I would buy it.
Honestly the one I would prefer most is her look from XMen TAS, but I think it's probably a little too revealing for them, especially since it's basically what Goblin Queen wears, except in leopard print, and they wouldn't do that figure. And that's only my preference because I loved that show and that's how I got introduced to her. But, again, I wouldn't say no to the above. As long as the outfit is done proper and she looks like she belongs next to Kazar (and not fugly like Sue Storm did), I'm fine with it. It's when they kinda sorta do a suit that looks like another suit but doesn't really match any suit and its on the wrong body and they just call it good enough that I get annoyed. Or when they completely fuck up the faces or the costumes, I just skip stuff altogether. I can't tell you how many figures I skipped because the costume was wrong, or the head looked terrible, on an otherwise good figure. Or how many figures I got when the figure itself was kinda meh, or even crappy, but the suit was dead on or the face sculpt was phenomenal.
I'm a male. I will admit I like me some sexy ladies. It's genetic, I'm kinda supposed to. Reproduce and propagate the species and all that. Sometimes I can be a perv, im a guy, so sue me. But with action figures, that's not it. I don't get *those* jollies off with plastic. It's a different kind of satisfaction. Heaven forbid I want it to look proper instead of a bastardized version cause soccer moms might throw a fit seeing it on store shelves.
Why do I want a new Slave Leia? The Old one sucked. It's an iconic look. And I'd love to display her choking the hell out of Jabba with a long ass chain and recreate one of Carrie Fischers most badass scenes. She told Jabba to shove it in the worst way, and it was the perfect example of female empowerment. And I would absolutely love to recreate that in plastic form. That's why I like most of these figures. Accurate representations of cool moments, stories, and memories. If she did that entire scene in a parka and cargo pants, I'd want the parka and cargo pants version. Just so happens, she did it in a gold bikini. So I want the gold bikini.
*edit* And I just thought of what they should do. Throw Shanna in a box set with Savage Land Rogue and make it online only so us "pervs" can get those figures and you squares don't have to see it.
FYI, I'm not jonesing for Savage Land Rogue, but I wouldn't say no.
My preference for source material in regards to savage land is the 90’s Kubert run as it had a lot more detail on the costumes even though it was still very jungle-chic.
Ka-zar and Shanna both had additions wraps and twine to give their forearms archers’ protection, secure flints and knives to themselves in case of sudden dinosaur attack, it just had a much more tactical and considered aesthetic to it all rather than leaning purely into prehistoric skin flick territory, but still drew the characters very athletic and sexy. I’d really like if the design team at Hasbro deferred to the Kubert art as their way of compromising on what top searches on Google might offer, but since Ka-Zar is already in this more minimalist style, I don’t know if any Shanna would quite match the way the old box set designs did. I wish I’d kept that fig of her so the torso could have been salvaged as a base for a custom perhaps but I probably got a good deal on it back when I had to sell much of my collection years back.
(I just remembered why I don’t use this place as much since losing Tapatalk 😕)
I will almost always prefer looks from the original volumes of the Marvel Handbook. The image ctv posted is fine for a modern look, especially since Shanna doesn't really wear a specific costume per se anyway, but the most iconic element for classic Shanna is the leopard print. If they could do the above khaki version and then re-release it with a leopard print deco I'd be happy. Or if they want to do this Handbook version with more coverage over the midsection that would be cool too.
Regarding the complaints about Cable's strap system--isn't it mostly the same as the one they used for the VHS Cyclops and the new X-Men '97 Cyclops? That strap system is WAAAAAY better than the Warlock wave and Love Triangle Cyclops straps, and it's even better than the straps on the Mafex Cyclops which were also an improvement on the ones they used for Warlock and Love Triangle Cyclops.
Given that assumption by me--which may easily be incorrect, someone please correct me if I'm wrong--I was really glad to see they used those on this Cable when they showed him during the live stream. That VHS Cyclops was a top 20 figure of 2022, and a big part of it was due to how incredibly functional those straps are while not hindering the articulation of the ab crunch whatsoever.
No the straps on this Cable look significantly different, from shots where the belt isn’t pushed up to cover the sides of the ab crunch crease it looks like the straps are a continuous loop running down the front, under the ribs and back up round his back, with four cut-off sections of strap sprouting from the belt to *look* like they seamlessly join the braces but they’re actually floating overlay. It’s a really odd choice that I can only guess was settled on because it made some slight comparative saving in the manufacturing or tooling costs 🤷♂️
if this picture link displays then it should show what I mean, and if it doesn’t then look at the figure listing on Amazon and see the third picture
Here's the image you're referring to followed by an image of VHS Cyclops--you should be able to click both images to get a larger version of them. From what I can see the straps go up into the sculpt on both figures, but on Cyclops they're on the lower ab and on Cable they're on the chest piece. They both have the little hanging straps on the opposite part, so with Cable the hanging bit is on the lower part and with Cyclops the hanging bit is on the upper part.
I hadn't noticed that distinction until now. I'd say the strap system is 90% similar, but the one on Cyclops is more hidden inside of the sculpt so it's better. They're both far better than the Love Triangle/Warlock Cyclops, and they're both more functional than the Mafex. Not sure why they reversed the location on Cable, and it's definitely aesthetically unpleasing to see the strap going inside of Cable's torso. It looks like it should hypothetically function as well as the one on Cyclops does, but it looks a bit worse. I'm still glad they did it this way as oppposed to having one full strap on top of the torso.

Wait, nevermind, I know why they did it--Cable's two straps are further out towards the sides than the single strap on Cyclops. Whichever 1990s Marvel artist designed the two straps on Cable put them further out to balance out the graphic design of the costume, and that's a challenge for action figure makers. They couldn't use an ab crunch on Cable and put the straps on the lower ab because it's too far inside of the figure's torso.
One question is would the straps have worked better on Cable with a diaphragm joint instead of an ab crunch? I doubt it because the sides of the straps would still be too far out on the sides to be hidden inside of the torso and you'd still see them on whichever half of the torso they decided to roll up into the torso's sculpt.
So while I agree that the straps going into the torso is a bit unsightly I'm not sure what the alternative would be, but if anyone has ideas please do share. I'd still rather see what they went with than all of the previous attempts to work those straps into a sculpt. I'm starting to look at Jada Toys as the industry leader at solving these types of engineering problems so I'm curious as to what they would have done, but I can't guess what their approach might have been.
The alternative would've been a strap attached to the belt. We've seen how that articulates.
I'm somewhat stunned by the negative reaction. It's easily the best possible solution.

Consider the source.
I think it looks odd from the sides. I'll have to see how it looks and works in person, so the verdict is still out. But I figured it may be worth discussing, hence why I brought it up. I was curious of other people's thoughts. I'm also wondering if it's gonna make his ab crunch tighter because of where they're located. Or if they're gonna leave a small gap to accommodate so it isn't overly tight. But if they may make it more loose. Honestly I think I would prefer it connected to the belt look wise, but that does limit posability unfortunately. So if it looks better in person, cudos to them. As of now I just think it looks odd.
