Is there any possibility for Pabs and TSI to get together and combine forces?  I mean, the Fwoosh is my home but, as many have pointed out, it just hasn't been the same since the blip a few years ago, and the new Articulated Thoughts site is not only stable, but has all the bells and whistles.

To be frank, I'm hesitant to post any customs or content here due to the risk it could all be blipped out again, lost forever.  Also, the lack of any sort of messaging system continues to detract from whatever appeal Fwoosh still retains.  Hell, the customs section here was utterly neglected by the administration loooong before the blip.

I think Pabs needs to have a serious reevaluation of his intent here and whether he really wants to continue with this bare-bones site.  If he does, he really needs to up his game because it has already bled most of its users.

I talked to Pabs on Instagram while they were still working on the site about a month ago and there was some back and forth about the possibility of turning the fwoosh into an app based platform vs a web based one going forward. regardless it was all about finding suitable server space and a host that could sponsor the fwoosh and give this space a desirable home and those issues would more than likely run into the same snags as a web based platform. So its a double edged sword either way....

A joining of forces is an absolute best-case-scenario to me. Is there any reason https://www.thefwoosh.com couldn't stay exactly as it is, with the "Forum" button linking people to Articulated Thoughts? Obviously it's not up to anyone except Pabs and TSI, but I'd love to see it happen. The Fwoosh has a solid brand and a long history, and the front page content is excellent. The AT forums are built on a solid foundation, and TSI has a lot of enthusiasm (and talent) for building and running it. It would be really great to see a meeting of the minds on this.

How's that other forum, is it good, alot of people?

Many or most of the same people who are here.  Feels exactly the same.

Yep, pretty much exactly the same people. Been a lively place so far and seems to be growing at a good rate.

Well this is the first time I've been able to post in a while.  I log back in and I have notifications of people replying to one of my topics one month ago.  I thought this place was down for longer than that.

Not sure if I should stay here or hop over to the new place.  I know the annual site crashes are getting old.  I also know I don't need to be posting in two different places.....decisions.

I honestly stopped looking because I thought this was the last time, and outsde forces have killed my access to IG and FB with no apparent resource to recover those, so I've pretty much given up on social media, as I will not do Reddit or the other current forum "replacements" that have popped up.

If this forum dies, then so be it. I still have my little group of local friends. I guess I can still take pictures of toys for myself and the void of Twitter, though Blue Sky shows promise.

Try articulatedthoughts.com, it's many of the same folks, with the difference being you have someone who is actively maintaining the board, making improvements and most important of all, communicating.  I like, others, hope they can merge so we get the best of both worlds, the name recognition of the Fwoosh with a stable forum to keep the community thriving.

thefwoosh.com server has been dying a slow death for a while. During the crash this year, I left it down, we've been evaluating the wordpress frontpage and forum, both are fine and stable and are not the source of the problem causing the crashes. Our issues stem from a server that is old, used and abused.

I will move the site to new a server. Before I do that, we need to evaluate the data to ensure that we don't copy problems to the new server. I also need to determine what data needs to be moved. We're still in the process of analyzing the data and cleaning up. When we're ready to move we will. You will be informed.

Benty and MattK are informed when there is something to report.

As far as the future of thefwoosh.com, as long it remains self sustainable it will continue.

I'll probably post something on the homepage before long. Or not, you know, in keeping with fwoosh(TM) culture.

Thanks,

pabs

@pablolobo I know you’re trying but as a long time user it’s sad to see all the great articles on customs as well as posts of peoples customs and collections just disappear. The funny photos fummetti stories and so much more gone

@pablolobo, thanks for updating us and for keeping our online home alive. That is a big relief.

But what about the lack of front page content? There have been only one or two articles a month for the last year or two. What about recruiting some volunteers to help MattK and to keep it fresh with current news, editorials and interactive posts?

Bring back the “Top Five most-wanted from ____ series” posts and other similar features.

And please bring Fwoosh’s Marvel Legends Top Ten vote back to the front page. It got much better participation (hundreds of votes, if I recall correctly) and visibility (particularly by Hasbro themselves) on the front page with Disqus than on the forum.

@mr_articulate I don't know what the status on the old php_bb forum is, and if the data can be easily saved. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

@Stormcloud we'll get frontpage and youtube content up again. But I need to get the site stabilized and moved to a new host before going nuts on the frontpage.

While I'm not a huge fan of AI, there are some tools that would allow me to quickly add content to youtube. With my limited time it might be the way to go for now.

Why manage your own server?  Hosting on a managed server like TSI is doing is SO much cheaper and easier.  I've been wondering this since you guys first had your downtime issues.  It would be a big mistake to replace your current server with another one you don't have the time and resources to manage; let the web hosting companies manage your Fwoosh server.

Plus this Wordpress forum software just stinks from a usability perspective.  It was a big step back from what Fwoosh had before, and TSI's new forum has all of the modern forum bells and whistles.  Right now the two sites are in competition and I'm not sure anyone wants that competition including TSI himself, so I'm sure you could just take your Fwoosh branding and plop it onto his site if he doesn't mind.  I'm sticking with TSI's site due to the constant downtime of this one plus the better forum software.  Even if you get a new server you still don't have anyone to fix issues with it that don't lead to days or weeks of downtime that a web hosting company would prevent from ever happening.

@enigmaticclarity moving to a managed server at the same or a new host is still moving to a new server. Right now I'm evaluating hosting and managed server options, but won't do anything until I am available in the summer.

Wordpress development and support is not a problem. Again, I won't be doing anything until the site is migrated.

Super happy TSI struck out on his own, but I won't be collaborating with him. Best of luck to his new venture and wish him all the success he deserves, and I hope you all enjoy the experience there.
