Small update on the '89 Batman: I've had him on my shelf since he released, a very vanilla museum pose with him standing next to the McF Batmobile like the old poster. I got him out on Sunday to check him out, maybe snap a few photos, and he has tears all over. His left knee is completely deteriorated below the kneecap when you bend his knee, you can almost see the skeleton under it (note: his knees have never been bent since I opened the box). The other knee has stress on it, but it's still intact. He has tearing on the back of both shoulders, and he has a small tear in his left elbow (inside).

This figure is falling apart without being played with, without being posed, and merely standing in place. No harsh temps, no sunlight, pretty much a perfect environment. No posing, with exception to the wired cape which I did have posed up. So keep a close eye on your 89 Batmans! I swapped out the head for the bloody injured face, and this damaged Batman will now be displayed with an old busted Toybiz Batwing and will forever be known as my post-crash finale version Bats.

Such a shame, it's a gorgeous figure. Maybe they'll do a version 2.0 someday with a standard body, those face sculpts were wonderful and it would be a shame to only have a withered body to display them on.

Oh man sorry to hear this 🙁

Really glad I cancelled my order now

I was more shocked than mad, but it's pretty damn disappointing. I read everyone in the beginning say that these wouldn't last, and I saw where others had experienced tearing, and I always said "nah, not me. Museum pose + good conditions, I'll be fine." Color me surprised.

Obviously, something must have been off...maybe the room isn't as climate controlled as I believed, or something. But still, museum poses shouldn't lead to degradation like that...oh well. I've seen people use the heads on McFarlane '89 bodies and the kitbashes turn out pretty decent, so maybe I'll try something like that. The heads are perhaps some of the finest likenesses I've seen on any movie figure and it's a crime to waste them.

@therealsmallville I decided to give mine a look over after seeing your post. My 89 Batman has been on display in my New England basement since I got it. Humidity is probably higher down here than it would be on the main level of my house and the figure isn't in direct sunlight. I've had his right arm bent at the elbow for awhile holding his grapple gun, but aside from that the pose is very vanilla. There is some stress marks forming at the end of the right gauntlet likely caused by the bent elbow pose so I straightened the arm out. Aside from that, it looks okay. No visible tearing that I can see. I bent the knees a bit to see what they did, but they did okay. I only bent them about 45 degrees though and I wouldn't dare push it. I never applied any coatings to my figure or even tried to remove the white powdery substance with water. The feel of the body still feels the same to me. It's cool to the touch and I think moisture might be important to keeping it looking as good as possible for as long as possible, but yeah, I assume this is going to be trash ten years from now. I would never buy a figure like this from Mezco again and knowing it's essentially a ticking time bomb gives me some buyer's remorse. When it does get real bad, I wonder if it would be possible to essentially paint over the cracks in such a way that essentially turns it into a statue?

Sorry to hear people are having issues with '89 Batman, I was really excited for this one but early reviews really put me off and made me cancel my order - its a shame cause from the pre-release pics it looked really good

That's good news that yours is holding up so well, it makes me wonder if maybe there were some batches of figures that had different brands of plastics and rubbers used in the factory process. Might explain why the trash-to-okay ratio hovers 50-50. I will say, due to the materials and the color of this guy, I could probably leave him in this generic pose for another 5 years and you'd never see the damage unless you were up close. That is one saving grace of the suit material, even when it tears it's just difficult to see from a distance. So I suppose he's displayable, and I'm the only one who would probably know it's janky.

As for turning them into statues, I bet you could pour clear resin over the entire thing and wait for it to dry. Then patch up any missing spots, and viola - immovable Keaton statue. I've also heard of people using mod podge on a brush to fix cracks and tears like this, but I've never tried it myself. It's supposed to fill in the crack and dry clear. I've seen videos where people fix peeling capes with it, I imagine it would work on Keaton here. But yeah, unless I'm wacky (which is always possible), I bet you could make a statue out of it using clear resin.

Post-release, even with a roughed up body, he still looks good (even if only from a few feet away). I think Mez had that one '89 poster, the one with Keaton standing by the car, and that was what the goal was...to make that poster into a figure. Unfortunately, nobody asked themselves if it would translate to a good toy.

I have to say though, even when he was brand new, he wasn't fun to mess with. I never bent his knees (until the other day) because just moving a leg felt weird. The metal skeleton inside has what feels like non-traditional articulation, and it almost feels like it would be easy to get a limb "stuck", for lack of better word. Like, the joints require certain parts to overlap other parts and when they don't, things don't move. I'm sure that's precisely not how it actually is, but that's what it feels like to me lol After experiencing a little bit of weirdness, I worried about all of his joints so I pretty much just left him in a museum pose. In the movie, after he blows up Axis Chemicals, the Joker shines a spotlight on him...that image, with the cape in the wind, was pretty much how I had him posed up minus the leaning backward. About as basic as you can get.

Ah, well. I guess I'm not mad about it because I knew it was a possibility that it could fall apart. I am a little salty though about the $250 I spent on ebay when Mezco auto-canceled my order out of the blue and I had to scramble to get one. That still stings lol

Another review for Black Suit Superman

I'm excited for this one. I don't have a good representation of long-haired Superman in my collection, I'm considering using the long hair clean shaven head from this on my blue suit Mez Superman. The design of that Supes doesn't match the era, but that's ok. And then this one would be my "Lois & Clark" (2016 comic) version.

I'm shocked they got a way with including a gun. I suppose Mr. Freeze came with one too, but this one I'm really surprised WB let go. This looks like a fun figure!

It looks really good and I love the accessories but think I'll stick with my Mafex version (simply because I can't go down the Mezco rabbit hole!) - its strange that Mafex wasnt allowed laser guns but Mezco was (which is my only real issue with the Mafex version)

I really like the accessories and overall look of the figure... but I loathe that short, stubby body they keep reusing for their comic Supermans.

Wanted to share this Alex Ross Batman custom I got from a guy on Instagram. Technically my second DC Mezco figure but I sold the Previews Sovereign Knight a while back.

The cloth goods just really work for an Alex Ross style Batman, I’m beyond happy with this figure.

Got a notice that they'll be charging tomorrow for the Batman (2022) figure.

Has anyone, anywhere posted images or videos of The Batman? Or is this another one of Mezco's, "We don't actually have the figure yet, but we need a cash injection," things like they did with Solomon Kane, which didn't ship out until two months after they started charging for it?

Looks like reviews for The Batman are finally coming in.

Heads look massive and the necks look stubby. The orange/yellow on the boots looks way too bright. Aside from that, I think it turned out decent. Wonder if the Ascending Knight head will fit on the body.

@therealsmallville The actual ‘89 Mez figure is okay, but where I’m really glad I got this due to the extra heads. With some minor mods, you can attach them to the old Mattel Multiverse Keaton. Then you have something to pose and easily get in and out of the McFarlane Batmobile.
