Β

Β

DCUC is better?!?!

Β

I don’t see how you could actually think thatΒ

Β

Β

I like the paint shading from Mattel and musculature looks better.Β  Plus I just don't like the "diaper" piece.Β  I never have.Β  No doubt McFarlane figures are striking with their size and some are damn impressive putting other lines to shame.Β  But it's wildly inconsistent to me.Β Β

Β

I watched another McFarlane interview.Β  I have always liked him and his takes, keeps the entrepreneurial and artistic spirit alive, but it's the same shit - always about longevity, being different and a bunch of BS.Β  It's never about making a good story or a better figure.Β  Or satisfying fans.Β  Hell his staple is cheap prices, and now prices exploded.Β  I know the COIE wave is unique, but Collector Edition is a fiasco.

Β

I still think we're lucky to have him making toys, but there was a time when I was buying probably 70% of what he produced.Β  Now it's like 25% if that.Β  Maybe too many fans waited for clearance years ago and this is the price we pay.Β  Seems like a lot of us have cooled off on his line.Β  I remember when Spawn just went to statues of literally Spawn, Spawn, Spawn.Β  That's when I walked away from that too.

Β

Β

I think the colors pop more on the McFarlane RT, but the musculature and proportions are better on the Mattel.

Β

Β

Β

isn’t it just the same body they used for Superman Batman green lantern Β flash and damn near everyone ?

Β

Β

Yes it its.Β  It was a heavily reused standard buck, but aesthetically speaking, from an anatomical standpoint, it was a very good one.

It seems most like Mattel because of a nostalgia feeling rather than the actual piece.Β

You could go the other way too.Β  Often I see people go crazy for the newest offering, whether is's DC or Marvel, and I just don't get they hype.Β  I wonder if people sometimes just feel "newest" automatically equals "better".Β  It's all subjective.

I touched on this in the DCUC thread:Β  Personally I don't feel that, in general, there have been very many advances that make the 6" action figures leaps and bounds better than they were 20 years ago.Β  Yes, you can give me a laundry list of improvements, and I'm sure someone here will, but usually something was taken in that process.Β  Sure ball jointed hips and T-crotches are gone now, but maybe they took away paint detail or maybe Impulse is now as tall as Batman or maybe there was a completely "WTF" design choice made that didn't have to be there.Β  I'm not saying old figures are better than new figures or vice versa, I'm saying that in the vast majority of cases, I see a give and take.Β  Some things are done better now, some things I miss.Β  Figures are made differently now but it doesn't always equal "better".

I got Lobo and his bike yesterday from amazon.Β  His left arm fell off πŸ™Β  Being that it's amazon, I'll be able to return it no problem.Β  But do I exchange it, or just return?Β  I'm very satisfied with my Mattel SDCC Lobo, the dog is better, and the two Lobo's are the same size.Β  The bike itself is great, but do I really have room for it?

Β

my arm came separate…I just popped it back in no further issues

have you tried that?

Β

I did.Β  It went back on, but not secure enough to my satisfaction.Β  There was no "pop" back into place.Β  It was not as sturdy as the right arm seemed to be.Β  Again, it's a really nice piece and I may give it another shot at some point, I'm just in a money saving mode right now.Β  I returned a $90 figure along with Lobo and it felt really good.

Β

Β

I had the same problem with my Lobo. The arm came apart at the bicep swivel, but mine wouldn't stay on at all. I did some examining and discovered that there is a little black socket in the upper part of the arm that the peg in the lower part of the arm inserts into. The socket is what allows the arm to swivel at the joint. So I took some Krazy Glue and glued the peg into the socket (being very careful not to use too much glue so that there was no overflow into the joint). The joint now works perfectly fine and seems very secure as well.

Since this seems to be happening to a lot of the figures, I suspect there was some problem with the gluing process at the factory.

DoJ Batman is up for preorder now.Β  Not sure I really need this.Β  My goal is one each of the live action Batmans and for me, whether my Ben Afleck Batman is the JL or DoJ version is neither here nor there.Β  I have the goggles-up JL Batman, so I think I'll just keep that feather in my cap.

Β

Pretty much yes 😆Β  Β Sorry if I was snarky yesterday, been buried under snow all week.Β  I like Gold Label Tornado perfectly fine. You're right Mattel's crotch is probably worse.Β  McFarlane's stuff really impressed me up until he went cheap in 2023.Β  The diaper was my only gripe, but that was when it was egregious.Β

Nonetheless I haven't collected 6 inch stuff since he came on the scene and have been missing it of late.Β  Maybe it's all the snow, maybe it's Mafex or LooseCollector luring me in, or maybe just nostalgia. I wouldn't want old DCUC back, but would like the guy who sculpted Caveman Batman to do more figures.

Β

McFarlane updated the Kickstarter Spawn.Β  Maybe not of interest to DC fans, but that figure is insane looking - figure of the year.Β  So he still has it, it's just slowed down compared to the bonkers reveals and updates we used to get so much of in the earlier days.

I originally just wanted the chase Captain Carrot, but now that I have both of them in hand (but unopened), I think the modern version looks a bit better.Β  The grey fur shows up the detail of the sculpt better.Β  Same with the darker yellow.Β Β  I find myself torn on which to keep/open.Β  I may very well keep both.Β  Never thought I'd have/want two Captain Carrot figures, but here we are.Β  I'm kinda surprised Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew have never been adapter to animation.Β  Seems like they'd make a good cartoon.

Have there been any sightings of Captain Carrot in Target physical stores?Β  I'd like to find the chase but not interested in paying more than MSRP or playing the "buy and return game" online.Β  It sucks having chases in a line that's already a "chase" to buy, they're so hard to find.

Unrelated, but that Batfleck figure really could use an "action" head to swap.Β  He looks bored.Β  Looks fantastic otherwise.

I'm underwhelmed by that Batfleck, so many years after the movie it should've been a near perfect figure. It's just ok from the promo pics.Β

On the other hand, unmasked Bale seems pretty dope.Β

Β

For me the entire argument is irrelevant since Todd is making figures an inch taller than Mattel was.Β  Β If the scale had been remotely close I would likely have been buying a ton of McFarlane figures to mix in with my existing figures - even if I thought some of the proportions were bad.Β  Β But because he chose to deliberately go with an all new, bigger scale - it was just a pass.Β  Β It doesn't matter if any of the design choices or articulation points are better since the main design choice rendered these a pass from me from the get go.Β  Β

Β

Todd's got every right to produce whatever figures he wants in whatever scale he wants - but had he chosen to stay in line with what Hasbro is doing and what Mattel had done I know for sure I would have bought dozens and dozens more figures from him.Β  Β Β

Β

But I'm glad my yuck is someone else's yum.Β  Β It's cool that people who like different things than me are getting a figure line they like.

Β

And honestly - if he had released the Monitor as a stand alone figure I would have bought it.Β  Β Mattel didn't make one and he's a character I could live with being a different height than others.Β  Β  But there's zero chance I'm buying 4 figures I don't want at $40 each (even $30 each if I ordered direct from him, I guess) just to get the one figure I do want.Β  Β  I'll take my chances that he'll be cheaper than $150 eventually on ebay and if not - I've lived this long without a figure of the character.

Β

I know what I would be missing...Β  a robust line of Marvel figures for one thing.... Good GI Joe figures for another...Β  Β  not worth trading those for a line of 200 Batman variants and every classic DC Character I want being some kind of exclusive, gold label offering.Β  Β But thanks for trying to tempt meΒ  Β  Β 😉Β
