I cannot resist an Earth-2 Superman, so he has me. $40 is ridiculous though, no way I will buy the whole wave. I honestly thought $40 was a typo. Notning and I mean nothing equates to $40 for these vs $20 regular releases.

Technically it's 5 figures for $135.99. McF has always charged from the start an extra $5 each per figure for the BAF pieces. I guess he could be charging $10 now per piece. The price listed comes to $27.20 per figure which is a little cheaper than the $29.99 for the Collector Edition. Oh I received Wonder Woman from GameStop today. I am quite upset about this figure having no ears and especially at this price. I received the Platinum Edition for GL Batman. I don't know how I feel about that. Big Superman and Krypto are just what they are.

Yeah, you know I just went to McF to PO Superman. And I just can't. I need to know more about whats going on here. I have already cut back and off loaded more than I bought in '23 anyways. Superman and Sold out Spectre would fit my Batman or JSA only collector brackets but as is I am in a holding pattern.

Yep, I'm wrong, he's definitely charging an extra $10 not including the BAF pieces, lol.

The Superman and Wally look like pretty good figures, but wow... there's nothing that can justify charging that much for them. Hopefully this will lead to the end of the line and a new company getting a deal with WB.

This is going to be an interesting experiment.  I’m already starting to feel the FOMO with Spectre being sold out.   It’s funny how quickly “I’m not paying $40 for this!” can turn into “If I decide I want him, how much would I be willing to pay on eBay?”

Hopefully I’ll have more common sense than that, and I’m certainly NOT endorsing this ridiculous pricing structure.  It’s just a somewhat humorous observation on how quickly the tables can turn.

Superman looks good at a closer inspection, it's an interesting newly sculpted body and the cape seems to be wired. But skip.

Psycho Pirate is on the BB body so skip.

Spectre I actually like, especially that cloak, but skip again.

Wally looks dumb, just dumb.

Price is ridiculous.

Experiment indeed.  We can go on for pages and pages and scoff and moan, but in the meantime, are $40 *mostly* reuse figures selling?  Well, I guess so in Specter's case.  And THAT'S all the toy companies are going to care about.  And you can bet other toy companies (Hasbro) are watching this experiment too.  What message are the fans going to send?  "No way" or "Well, I won't like it, but I'll pay it".

These went from instant preorder to "yikes...nope." The more I look at this Superman, the more I really like it so this is a bummer. I even like the exaggerated S on the back of the cape. At a regular price, I'd have bought 2 of him so I could have the version from Crisis and also a younger version with a new head. I like the Toddy take on the Monitor, and Pirate and Spectre look great.

I hemmed and hawed a bit with myself last night and what finally made the decision for me was an email from BBTS telling me that the Beast Kingdom DAH Batman (The Flash) and DAH Batman Returns would be hitting my POL soon and that I'm about to be charged for them. These are $55 each, unique sculpts, more accessories, nicer materials, taller/more plastic. I'm not in any way saying they are better or worse than something from McFarlane, I mean that's pretty subjective; but just based on cost vs the goodies in your hand it would appear that I'm getting more value from Beast Kingdom (and it helps that I like their figures to begin with). I try to never compare McFarlane to Mafex/Mezco/SH Figuarts, or vice versa, as import figures are definitely their own thing. But most Beast Kingdom, aside from being taller, is comparable enough to me to look at cost vs goodies. And with these BK being $55, I just can't pay $40/each for this wave. That sucks, but I have to speak with my wallet there as I just don't see the value.

I'm not someone who complains much about cost, I think that things typically cost what they cost and you either pay it or you don't based on whether you feel you are getting your money's worth out of it. On a glance, I don't see $40/each here. Perhaps I'll be wrong when the reviews come out, we'll see.

I don't think this a price hike - it's an unexpected exclusive on MTS and they had to compensate.  We'll see.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if this isn't the case.  I mean, this is an absolutely bonkers hike, almost TOO bonkers.  I don't know, man, we'll have to wait and see what other waves are priced at.

So, I know Spawn is sorta niche now, but I do enjoy collecting and following that line.  He was asked about a retro Spawn line and how it could be done on his site since he'd want packaging that Target wouldn't go for (I'm sure other reasons exist as well).  Could this be a test??  See I would 1000% sign up for classic redos of Spawn at this price, but not regular DC releases.  Let's see what the BvS wave MSRPs at.  I expect $25 ish.

I think it will be fine, and honestly I need a Superman fix after a lite 2023 with McFarlane DC.  I like this series a lot so not gonna blow my lid here, but understand why many others would.

Saw in a Facebook group that Todd announced a livestream tomorrow. I wonder if it’s to directly address the price hike for these, or just a general announcement for multiverse.

Even as a limited run, the amount of re-use should cut down on costs so these aren’t $40. Monitor looks to be completely new, but Psycho Pirate and Wally are nearly 100% reuse, with Spectre sharing some parts from Martian Manhunter. I can’t tell if Superman is using Knightfall Batman legs (except for calves) but it looks to have similar wrinkles on the thigh.

I assume the Livestream will be on Facebook??  We need more of this from him. Hasbro is great at it and Veebs does NECA interviews on Youtube a couple times a year.  It would help us and Todd's business.   Spectre really got me psyched since I don't recognize it.  Superman is new, it's not Knightfall Batman.  I think it was originally for the upcoming Page Punchers wave that got rearranged.

I've already been cutting back on figure purchases, but if $40 is the new price for these then I'm out completely. This hobby has already gotten too expensive, but this is ridiculous. I simply cannot justify that kind of cost when I'm having trouble buying groceries these days.

@therealsmallville

I hear ya, but remember Todd is the king of playing with price.  I hate suggesting "waiting for a sale" because usually this spells doom for the line and such - but in this case it makes perfect sense.  I think it's a great series and worth being pumped up for.  Especially with that sharp Anti-Monitor staring me down at Target.  Just wait it out if you need.

Interesting about Beast Kingdom because I have had my eye on those, if they do a Flash then I might dive in.  I really wanted a Superman fix this winter since that Page Punchers line and new52 Cyborg Superman were leaked.  I'm gonna jump on this since those are like...in limbo (?) Damn you Todd!

According to their website, it looks like their Flash from the movie has released already:

https://beast-kingdom.us/dah-083-the-flash.html      They have a regular one for $50, and a deluxe for $60 that lights up. I didn't preorder Flash, but he does look pretty good there.

Bringing it back around to McF, I think I will definitely be waiting around to see if a sale emerges. With Specter selling out already, it does give a person a little bit of FOMO but that's ok. Between the BK Batman's and some 1/6 product that I have coming in soon, I'm certainly not hurting for toys. Wanting, definitely, but not hurting lol

I've been cutting back too.  I actually just looked at my checking account and it's at a high that I don't recall seeing probably in forever.  It's a very good feeling especially seeing as my job does not pay a lot.  Regardless of this price hike, my New Year's resolution for figures this year is 99% fewer super heroes.  I have so many.....sooooooooo many.  Boxes and boxes of Marvel and DC.  Why do I need to keep buying these same characters in perpetuity?  There's so much else out there.

It sounds like it’s not intended to be the new price going forward for the standard releases.

I’m not someone who has ever cared about the damn chase variants, so that being a factor in the price hike here is really annoying.
