Red Tornado and Animal Man look great! I really don't mind the Gold Label exclusives. They have, for me, been the absolute easiest exclusives to ever find. I haven't missed one yet that have wanted. These will look good with Blue Beetle, Knightfall Batman, et al. I can't wait.

I wish folks would stop embedding Instagram image links... they don't universally work, and end up showing nothing but the Instagram logo. - Instead, copy the image URL link,

 https://i.redd.it/j31em9wwrc0c1.png

and just paste the image code straight in threads instead... like so. TA-DA!

I swear McFarlane really is like a bad relationship, lol. Gripes with Animal Man but Red Tornado looks great. Those boots could easily be used for classic Shazam.

And, with that I immediately rescind my statement about not preordering.  Loving Red Tornado.  If he and Animal Man go up on the same day hopefully I can pre-order and avoid shipping charges.

Why is Superman so thick?

So bad.

After the Return of Superman, didn’t he start to get stronger and larger due to the energy he absorbed during the fight against Mongul and Cyborg Superman?

It’s been so long since I’ve read those comics.   I can’t recall.  But I recall him splitting into blue Energy Superman, and then the red Energy Supes came along.

And did Parasite play a role in helping rid him of the excess energy?

I may be conflating things, or getting them out of order.

Short story: That body is ridiculously large.

For 30 year old weekly comics, you're pretty spot on with your memory!

After he defeated Cyborg, he had some random adventures. Leading into the next big Superman event (Battle for / Fall of Metropolis), Superman did indeed start to grow larger and was losing control of his powers (which had become more powerful and unwieldy). It turned out when the Kryptonite radiation passed through the Eradicator, it altered his cells. They used Parasite at one point to try and siphon some of it off, which itself later led to a Parasite storyline around the Trial of Superman era.

A few years later, after Final Night, Superman was powerless and got married. He went on a trip to the Sun to try to jumpstart his cells, which weren't absorbing solar energy. The gambit worked, restoring his powers, but he eventually overloaded and his cells became electrified.

Ah, the 90's.

As for this figure, not only do the proportions look bad but even the color of the suit is wrong. Superman wore a lighter blue like this before his death, but after he came back his suit was a few shades of blue darker than it had been. All of this is to say - that's a lazy goddamn figure. Wrong body, wrong head, wrong color...can't wait to see how the hair looks in the back since it appears to be added on to an older head sculpt.

Thanks!  I loved reading Superman during all those years/storylines.  I’m glad I wasn’t too far off. 🙂

The ‘90s indeed.  Remember the bagged issue with Superman Vs Logo Colorforms?  😅

Oh wow! Yes! The Superman vs Lobo polybag, you could design your own battle scene with the parts. Wow, I'd forgotten about that, thank you for the reminder! The Triangle Era for Superman was his best, in my opinion. The 4 titles made it basically a weekly book, it was an incredible time.

I’m glad that I was able to remind you of that special issue. 🙂  And yeah, the weekly triangle Superman era was fantastic!

@mysticmanjrf My concern is that McFarlane is going to use the whole body for a Classic Shazam.

They painted Red Tornado's "Alan Scott" belt and buckle gold despite Reddy never having a buckle.

Why can't McFarlane just make some blank bodies? Every single body has boots or belts or gloves or armor and the redecos just paint overtop them. It really drives me nuts in a way that it wouldn't if they just abandoned sculpted details on costumes entirely and only repainted those and then never redecoed anything with sculpted details.

@magnusprimal  Sadly, I believe that list is inaccurate. It says they are BTAS figures, but I believe they are in fact TNBA figures.

Hmm. That may drop me down to possibly just Two-Face.

I have to admit, unless they really screwed it up I would be all-in on the BTAS figures.

Have you seen the "cell shading" on the Condiment King Batman?  It's one of the most baffling things I've seen.

I would love to see Todd reissue this line but with retooling to the hips.  I have all the DC Collectibles TAS figures, and those terrible hip joints are really holding back an otherwise awesome line.  They finally fixed it with Two-Face.....and then the line promptly ended.

Yes, I saw that Batman.  Baffling is putting it kindly.

I’m not a fan of the cell-shading trend.

I for one would just straight up drop the line if they abandoned sculpted detail.

Just came across this on facebook. So there's going to be a CE edition of WW separate from the NFT bullshit wave.

@tenzilkem Yeah, Plastic man has my attention, but then again so did Capt. Carrot and look how he ended up. I don't think McF will be able to let the opportunity pass to over think it, Mattel gave us one of the best action figures ever.

It's really the only Plastic Man you're ever going to need.  I recommend everyone take five figures out of their storage boxes, figures you haven't looked at since the day you bought them, sell them, and buy that Mattel Plastic Man with the money.  You'll be glad you did 🙂
