Yeah, because no other toy companies ever reuse base bodies for different figures. Except for ALL OF THEM. But for some reason some people act like that only McFarlane Toys should use original sculpts for every single one of their figures, even if they share similar body types. Because reasons.

If anything McFarlane reuses base bodies less than almost any other big company out there. So it comes off just sounding like hating on McFarlane because you have a bone to pick.

If you hate companies that reuse the same sculpts for multiple characters, then you must really hate Hasbro's Marvel Legends, and you must have totally despised Mattel's DCUC line because it was literally 90% reuse. And let's not forget Neca, and Hot Toys, and Mezco, and pretty much every action figure company in existence.

To me, it's not about the reuse (I absolutely love the matching scale of DCUC). It's about improper reuse. Why is Black Lightning on the Speeding Bullets base body? It gives the figure two belts and weird sculpted arm and leg textures. Why is Eradicator on a base body that gives him added cuffs and boots in the sculpt? Why is Return of Superman Supes on a massive bulky body? These are easily avoidable if the correct base body is used. But it just comes off cheap as is, which is a problem as prices are going up...

I agree with you on the proper reuse. Also, I don't know why there is a Collector's Edition. There are some new figures or sculpts but you shouldn't be charged $10 more for a repainted buck that was $20.

The leaks are always interesting but I prefer the McFarlane releases. We get an idea of what is coming. People fantasize about how the figure will look and then we see the end result and are almost always disappointed.

If Plastic Man is a BAF, I hope it is not one of those year long Target releases. I hate having to wait a year to put an action figure together. One of the only good things is that the first 2 figures usually peg warm and go on clearance before the last 2 figures are released.

It wouldn't surprise me if McFarlane made Plastic Man with his Terrifics outfit instead of his classic look. They also might use the Darkest Knight buck for the figure.

@tenzilkem Yeah, Plastic man has my attention, but then again so did Capt. Carrot and look how he ended up. I don't think McF will be able to let the opportunity pass to over think it, Mattel gave us one of the best action figures ever.

@magnusprimal  Sadly, I believe that list is inaccurate. It says they are BTAS figures, but I believe they are in fact TNBA figures.

Have you seen the "cell shading" on the Condiment King Batman?  It's one of the most baffling things I've seen.

I would love to see Todd reissue this line but with retooling to the hips.  I have all the DC Collectibles TAS figures, and those terrible hip joints are really holding back an otherwise awesome line.  They finally fixed it with Two-Face.....and then the line promptly ended.

Yep, I'm impressed with Animal Man's headsculpt.  Now that classic comic figures have seemingly gone exclusively Gold Label I think I'm going to stop pre-ordering and just pick up ones I happen to see in the store.  Like many folks here my excitement for this line has dwindled.

Great headsculpt, but no jacket. Not sure I've ever seen Animal Man without it.

Giving me reasons to pass on characters I'd usually jump at.

Why is Superman so thick?

So bad.

After the Return of Superman, didn’t he start to get stronger and larger due to the energy he absorbed during the fight against Mongul and Cyborg Superman?

It’s been so long since I’ve read those comics.   I can’t recall.  But I recall him splitting into blue Energy Superman, and then the red Energy Supes came along.

And did Parasite play a role in helping rid him of the excess energy?

I may be conflating things, or getting them out of order.

Short story: That body is ridiculously large.

For 30 year old weekly comics, you're pretty spot on with your memory!

After he defeated Cyborg, he had some random adventures. Leading into the next big Superman event (Battle for / Fall of Metropolis), Superman did indeed start to grow larger and was losing control of his powers (which had become more powerful and unwieldy). It turned out when the Kryptonite radiation passed through the Eradicator, it altered his cells. They used Parasite at one point to try and siphon some of it off, which itself later led to a Parasite storyline around the Trial of Superman era.

A few years later, after Final Night, Superman was powerless and got married. He went on a trip to the Sun to try to jumpstart his cells, which weren't absorbing solar energy. The gambit worked, restoring his powers, but he eventually overloaded and his cells became electrified.

Ah, the 90's.

As for this figure, not only do the proportions look bad but even the color of the suit is wrong. Superman wore a lighter blue like this before his death, but after he came back his suit was a few shades of blue darker than it had been. All of this is to say - that's a lazy goddamn figure. Wrong body, wrong head, wrong color...can't wait to see how the hair looks in the back since it appears to be added on to an older head sculpt.

Thanks!  I loved reading Superman during all those years/storylines.  I’m glad I wasn’t too far off. 🙂

The ‘90s indeed.  Remember the bagged issue with Superman Vs Logo Colorforms?  😅

Oh wow! Yes! The Superman vs Lobo polybag, you could design your own battle scene with the parts. Wow, I'd forgotten about that, thank you for the reminder! The Triangle Era for Superman was his best, in my opinion. The 4 titles made it basically a weekly book, it was an incredible time.

Hey, I'm digging Red Vision quite a bit, gonna grab him for sure. This reuse makes sense, I don't have a character on that body on the shelf yet and looks like they've actually used their brains for once and haven't sculpted the gold designs on the new parts but painted them on instead for consistency.
