Why is Superman so thick?
So bad.
After the Return of Superman, didn’t he start to get stronger and larger due to the energy he absorbed during the fight against Mongul and Cyborg Superman?
It’s been so long since I’ve read those comics. I can’t recall. But I recall him splitting into blue Energy Superman, and then the red Energy Supes came along.
And did Parasite play a role in helping rid him of the excess energy?
I may be conflating things, or getting them out of order.
Short story: That body is ridiculously large.
For 30 year old weekly comics, you're pretty spot on with your memory!
After he defeated Cyborg, he had some random adventures. Leading into the next big Superman event (Battle for / Fall of Metropolis), Superman did indeed start to grow larger and was losing control of his powers (which had become more powerful and unwieldy). It turned out when the Kryptonite radiation passed through the Eradicator, it altered his cells. They used Parasite at one point to try and siphon some of it off, which itself later led to a Parasite storyline around the Trial of Superman era.
A few years later, after Final Night, Superman was powerless and got married. He went on a trip to the Sun to try to jumpstart his cells, which weren't absorbing solar energy. The gambit worked, restoring his powers, but he eventually overloaded and his cells became electrified.
Ah, the 90's.
As for this figure, not only do the proportions look bad but even the color of the suit is wrong. Superman wore a lighter blue like this before his death, but after he came back his suit was a few shades of blue darker than it had been. All of this is to say - that's a lazy goddamn figure. Wrong body, wrong head, wrong color...can't wait to see how the hair looks in the back since it appears to be added on to an older head sculpt.
Thanks! I loved reading Superman during all those years/storylines. I’m glad I wasn’t too far off. 🙂
The ‘90s indeed. Remember the bagged issue with Superman Vs Logo Colorforms? 😅
New reveals!!
Well, I’m passing on those. What’s up with Mcfarlane lately?

I do!
I was there through most of 90's Superman. I came for Death of Superman which was basically my intro to the series, and I stayed through the electro Supes storyline. That one kind of lost me, but I was graduating high school and going into college at that time (1998-1999) so my attention was on other things. But yeah, overall I enjoyed that decade of Superman.

See, I just don't know enough about the character. I have no idea of his origin or back story, have no idea about his various looks. The fact that the dimples in his suit aren't accurate is something I only know by reading this thread. Still, due to his uniqueness, I WOULD have been interested in this but for the price.

CC isn’t something I’m interested in. Nor is GL Batman. I would be interested in Superman, but it is just not executed well. Todd does this so consistently that I am starting to wonder if it’s deliberate.

I'd say it's two things.
First, the movie figures are pretty good and crossed the line into excellent with everything from the Nolan wave forward. It feels like those are getting all the love, the best sculptors, and the tooling budget. Followed by Page Punchers. Everything else feels a bit like an afterthought.
The other is of course now heavy mold reuse but, in particular, that when the best molds like Knightfall Batman and Page Punchers Superman get used somewhere, the other Batmen and Supermen released in a similar window tend to get made from crappier molds.

LOL, see, if this was Hasbro I would definitely think it was deliberate. With Todd.....I'm not convinced. Maybe, but I half way think it's just because he's not on the same page as the fans.
That Superman....my God......
Im excited about CC BUT i would prefer the cartoon-y version, this one seems 'realistic' look. those all over holes does make it look weird. ill pass on the other 2 figs.
I wanna see Kypto the dog that supes comes with.
Oh Man, I have such a fond regard for Captain Carrot but this figure looks like a guy that dresses up like a Rabbit....possibly due to losing his parents at a young age. Now dedicating his life to fighting crime in Watership Down, humming Art Garfunkel tunes and working out of a secret Rabbit burrow.
All seriousness, probably pick this one up-mainly due to the fact that I have wanted a CC in my collection for just about ever. Loved the series in the 80's. I wish this was a 5 POA 4 inch figure set available on McF Toys. Thats all I need for my display. I get sad just thinking it's not going to happen.
I do like the look of that Superman however...and Krypto-yeah I need one of those!
It looks like the version of Captain Carrot they're doing is based on his appearance in Justice League Incarnate where he was drawn in a more realistic style.
I don't know where they got the texture in his suit from, but I personally like stuff like that. Those are the kind of little added details that makes the McFarlane DC figures stand out from other lines.
@ninjak I have no problem with it being this version of Captain Carrot, I like this version but the suit change just seems a bit odd. Bearing in mind it’s supposed to be a skin tight suit and not a textured one.
The Return of Superman figure actually looks pretty good imo. I think the DKR body works well for that era of the character and the new headsculpt looks good. That said, I kind of wish they also gave him a new chest emblem. The fatter S doesn't really fit this era. The blue should also be darker, but I imagine that'll be tackled by an impossible-to-find chase variant. It'll be interesting to see how Krypto turns out. His inclusion could make the thirty buck price-point make at least some sense, which is why I'm expecting him to be disappointing in some major way, lol.
