Decided I want a classic 90s JLA team on my shelf again. I already had the first release Superman, Wonder Woman and decided to get the Plastic Man wave and the Aquaman that comes with him (naturally, Amazon delivered the Platinum deco I don't want). But which versions of Flash and Kyle Rayner best match this team? And seems like the Martian Manhunter version I want is expensive.
This line is frustrating.
@stephenwdavis Had some sloppy paint on my Simon as well. Just got him today.
You mentioning Lightning Lad made me realize - I'd forgotten he was coming out and why wasn't I more excited about it? But then I realized i fully expect we'll never get Cosmic Boy or Saturn Girl (probably the latter, cos girl) let along more Legion figures given the line's tendency to give up on teams if the first few don't sell well. I'm still salty we never got Rat Catcher or Flagg from Suicide Squad.

The Walmart exclusive Wally West Flash would be the correct Flash for the Morrison JLA, and that's the one I use for that team. The best Kyle Rayner would probably be the one that came in the 2-pack with Kilowog. I didn't buy the 2-pack, so I'm using the single release Kyle with the more lime green color.
@docsilence I was originally thinking that the Legion of SuperHeroes might end up being a Walmart exclusive subline similar to the DC vs Vampires. I think that Lightning Lad sold well enough, it appears to be nearly sold out on the site and now only available through a 3rd party for a slightly higher than retail price. I never saw any at my store. I saw a Canadian retailer has the Platinum available for $50 but haven't been able to make myself pull the trigger on it yet at that price. I'm hoping for more LOSH figures regardless. I bought the LOSH 12-pack from Mattel when they put it out years ago and have several of the old DC Direct versions as well but there are still several characters that have never been made that would easily make my Top 10 most wanted DC figures. Only time will tell if we'll get more.
@stephenwdavis I still regret never getting that twelve pack. (On a whim I started looking for LOSH Lego minifigs and impulse bought Cosmic Boy and Lightning Lad this week only to find out Lego never made an official Saturn Girl. I'm going to end up overpaying for a custom I think, but at least Lego customs tend to be decent.
I received the package from EE today with the 2 Christopher Reeve Superman and would you know it EE sent me a platinum version instead of 2 regular versions, lol. I'm pretty sure they thought they were hooking me up but I already have the platinum version from the EQL run fair drawing. I guess now I also have an extra platinum version to trade with Captain Thunder and platinum Red Hood.
All ML spideys become bow-legged after some time, the gummy plastic starts to get out of shape on the legs, terrible.
If you want to continue to rag on ML figures, take it to the Marvel forum. You can choose your wave thread to add your "wisdom" to.

You're going to want the Kyle from the Kilowog two pack for that JLA team.
I don't know that there's a best Wally West option at the moment. The Walmart exclusive is a reuse of the Rebirth Flash buck and that one has a bunch of extra lifework and details that Wall's costume never had (and the head is creepy). The latest Flash from the Darkseid BAF wave WOULD have been perfect except they went for the pixelated video game paint deco.

Superior Knowledge actually.
But hey, me and you always see eye to eye on DCUC's and MOTU Classics. So, we've got that. And PantherCult.......isn't that all we really need.
Absolutely. And I think it's genuinely interesting that those things that are a turn off for me are the things that you enjoy about the line.
I've accepted that McFarlane is never going to be my DC figure line... I just have to wait and see if eventually someone else does make the one for me. But that's the issue with the exclusive license thing. Until Todd is done playing in that sandbox, no one else gets to. I kind of envy TMNT fans at the moment since there are currently like 4 or 5 companies actively making Turtles figures, so you can choose which type works better for you.
One more point about DC Multiverse that is irrelevant to non-customizers but that annoys me to no end: there is no standarization of hand sizes and hand pegs. Was hoping to use the Ultraman 2 pack Superman's hands on the original McF Superman and the hands look a different scale and don't attach properly. Likewise, if I'm using a McF figure as a base for a custom and need to buy different color/style Multiverse hands, feet, or wrist joints off eBay for the custom, it is a total crapshoot whether they'll attach properly to each other or to the arms/legs, or whether they'll look absurdly undersized. This is not the case for Marvel Legends. More standardized.
I was going to add my sixpence worth (again) about why I think ML is a weaker line, but in my older days I just don't want to get into silly debates where each person's view is going to have some bias/subjectivity. Feel free to ignore, or tell me I'm wrong about any of the below! I'm not precious about this line, nor ML, nor even Jada. Nor do I hate any of the lines (although I am maybe suffering from ML fatigue, and McFarlane's line seems more fresh as its a much smaller part of my collection).
* It is a fair point though about the joints- the McFarlane ones can be really frustrating to get right when they use ratcheted joints, but then the question is whether the ML style joints would be an improvement. This original discussion I think started from mentioning Jada- it would be nice if both companies could just take a look at how they could both do better.
* There is also a fair point being made about the proportions of the legs- reminds me of the earlier Masterverse line. Mattel have been correcting that over time, but its a running issue with McFarlane. That being said, ML might have better leg proportions but have many other sins of their own that I don't need to get into. It is crazy that Jada, again, can hit the ground running and have figures that look so much more cohesive and well planned than the DC, Marvel and MOTU lines. A bit more love for the product goes a long way, it seems.
None of the modern retail 6/7 inch lines are perfect- and even Jada has its issues- as I said, I only dip into Multiverse, but I've been mostly happy when I do. The platinum/chase figures nonsense is probably the most frustrating and being a UK collector there are some figures that are clearly popular but never seem to reach these shores, whereas some of the less popular ones are sitting on shelves and ending up on clearance. The company's strategy is just bewildering- its like they are still doing what Hasbro was stuck doing in the early days of the Return of Marvel Legends (anyone else remember the 'running changes' nonsense?).

These are all fair points. Two years ago I would have put McFarlane over Hasbro ML but these days the two companies are pretty comparable to me. Each have strong points and weak points. They both crank out a lot of product and there's a lot of mediocrity in both. I wouldn't put 100 Marvel Legends on one side of my figure room and 100 DC Multiverse on the other side of my figure room and say one collection is SO much better than the other. But if you cherry pick, each company has its gems. In McFarlane's case, I will say that I love the incorporation of wired capes. That's an example actively trying to improve on your product that I think is lacking a lot in domestic figures. Then on the flip side he pull that "chase figure" BS, which, if he were to drop, would bring back about 90% of my goodwill. And I could make similar comments about Hasbro. See, it's one step forward, one step back.
Jada--Their mindset just seems to be different. To me it looks like each figure they make is made with the goal of being the BEST it can possibly be right now. "So what if we cut corners on this Wolverine/Batman? We'll do another one next time, correct the issue, and cut a different corner." Jada, it appears, is not playing this game. Yes, they'll resell you the color variants of the SF figures (which is in keeping with the actual game), but they aren't holding anything back with sculpt, with engineering, with articulation, with accessories. They appear to be doing their best with each release. I love that!
Can’t you like both McFarlane DC Multiverse and Marvel Legends equally?
I grew up a Marvel Maniac, reading Spider-Man, Daredevil, Captain America, The X-Men, The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, etc. And I’ve been collecting Marvel Legends since day one, going all the way back to the very first Spider-Man Classics figures. I love Marvel Legends and in my opinion it’s the undisputed all-time greatest action figure line in history, and it would be nearly impossible at this point for any other line to ever usurp that title.
That said, I also grew up reading DC Comics and watching DC cartoons on TV, and I love Batman, Superman, The Flash, The Justice League, The Teen Titans, and etc. And I love McFarlane DC Multiverse figures and I’ve been on board collecting the line since day one as well. And in my opinion it’s the best DC figure line of all time. I especially love the way most of the figures have unique dedicated sculpts, and some effort is put into trying to match certain artists styles from the comics.
So I would be hard pressed to choose which line I like better. But if you put a gun to my head, I would probably go with McFarlane just because I’m more into those figures right now. I have a huge collection of Marvel Legends, but I nearly have every Marvel character I really want at this point (with a few exceptions), so I’m not buying as many Marvel Legends as I am DC Multiverse figures these days.
Also, if you gave me the choice of Hasbro taking over the DC license or McFarlane taking over the Marvel license, I’d definitely go with McFarlane doing Marvel figures. I mean who wouldn’t love a McFarlane Multiverse Spider-Man figure (or The Hulk) done in Todd’s art style? That would be insanely cool. We all pretty much know what a Marvel Legends style Batman or Superman would look like, but with Todd you never know what you’re going to get, and that’s half the fun, IMO.
