I remember when I used to be happy about a figure being made that I wanted, but when it comes to McFarlane Platinums I know that generally the only way that I'm going to get it is to pay twice retail on the secondary market. I've never wanted a line that I collect to change hands so badly. DC is my 2nd favorite IP to only Marvel and McFarlane drives me nuts. I hate that I give them so much of my money when I don't even like their scale or proportions, but that's on me for continuing to buy from them just because I love the property.

I think a lot of us are in that boat for one reason or another.  I was watching dHunter’s review on Geo Force the other day, and here were my thoughts as the review progressed:

Great character choice!  Love that both the red/orange and green/yellow versions are being offered!  Love the use of the faceplates to achieve different sculpts and expressions!  Nicely sculpted details on the gauntlets and belt! I’ll take one of each, please!

Wait…hold on a minute.   What is that sculpted detail on the sides of the arms and legs?  It looks like padding of some sort.  That doesn’t belong there.  Why are there sculpted horizontal lines on the boots?  Those don’t belong there either.  It’s a repaint of the Speeding Bullets Batman?  …and as usual, the green/yellow version is the Platinum version, which means 1 out of a case of 6 and not a 50/50 split.  Sigh.  I’m going to have to pass.

Why, why, WHY, McFarlane?!?   You are shooting yourself in the foot!  You could be selling 2x to 3x as many of these figures as you are.

It’s not so much that I want McFarlane to lose the license.   It’s that I want him to stop being so damn cheap and lazy.

Credit to dHunter for calling McFarlane out on the inappropriate reuse.  You would be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of the line, but dHunter still calls it down the middle.  If the line was as consistently good as as his reviews, we’d be in business.

I just read the first two issues of Absolute Batman, I was getting into it.

What are the chances, particularly with all the hype around it, that Todd does an Absolute Batman figure and sooner rather than later?  100%.  In fact, I expect a reveal in the next two months.

I feel like I should follow up on my mini-rant by admitting that I have bought several DC Multiverse figures during the past month:

Batman (Reborn - Platinum), Robin (Reborn), Robin (Earth 2), Clock King, Shining Knoght, Conner Kent, Sgt. Rock, Cyborg, and Ragman.

So I’m not exactly a hater.  Sometimes I can live with the reuse, and sometimes I can’t.  It’s really on a figure by figure basis, but I’ve had to pass on a lot of figures I would have bought otherwise, and it just seems so unnecessary   All McFarlane needs are a few blank bucks.   It wouldn’t even require 100% new molds in most cases.  For example, just mold a new set of lower legs for the Jon Kent buck.  Easy peasy.

@bat1975 Yep, but the platinum for Shazam! is Captain Thunder and I've got to have that one. Sigh.

DC is my favorite IP and I completely relate to this. The Batman Beyond Batmobile got here today and I felt somewhat guilty opening it. My love for DC outweighs my disdain for McFarlane at this point but it’s becoming more difficult to spend so much money on a company I don’t wish to support.

I wish they just understood that good figures sell. Most people don’t care whether it’s a platinum or a chase or a page puncher. Just make good figures of characters people care about and we’ll buy them.

Objectively - the Batmobile is awesome, though. It’s perfect scale for the Mattel Multiverse Batman Beyond and the stand makes it a cool display piece. The vehicles are where this line still shines, for the most part.

I finally found the regular & platinum Geo-Force figures at Target today. I have been checking my local Targets everyday for 3 weeks in Western PA.

@tenzilkem Thanks for the heads up! I'm going to have to go look again tomorrow. I'm still salty that they won't list the regular release on the website. It's rare for me to find anything good at brick and mortar anymore.

I just received a case of the Earth 2 Robin/Joker digital wave from Entertainment Earth. The case pack-out is:

2X Earth 2 Robin

2X Platinum Speed Force Flash

1X Regular Silver Age Joker

1X Platinum Black Suit Joker

I was pleasantly surprised to get 2X of the Flash. Never sure when buying these EE cases what the pack-out is actually going to be.

@new-batman Thanks New Bats, but can't see it. Sorry, but I might be one of the few people on Earth who still doesn't have an Instagram account (or Facebook, or X, or TikTok, or any other social media).

@new-batman Thanks New Bats, but can't see it.

I don't recognize all of these specific ones, but...

Jeremy Irons Alfred

Platinum Edition Bizarro, art is Silver Age, I think

Platinum Edition Carrey Riddler, picture has the backwards jacket and bowler hat

Platinum Edition movie Batman, I don't know if this is '89 or Returns or what's different about it.

A cowboy Batman on a horse...is that Justice Riders?

Platinum Edition Jade

Eradicator, will also have some kind of Platinum version

Hal Jordan, the art is Emerald Twilight, I think?

Superman vs. Godzilla 2-pack

There's some other non-Multiverse stuff, looks like DC direct has animated Etrigan, Mr. Freeze, and some silvery Batman, who also has a Platinum version.

Found Knightmare Batman at Target. I like him, but he really does feel incomplete without a weapon of any sort. Obviously the gun is the biggest thing, but at least throw in a batarang or grapple or something. I know we got the binoculars, but what's he gonna do, spy someone to death? Has anyone seen a good, yet affordable custom gun for him? Or anyone have an extra from their 2 pack or something?

Nice to see Irons Alfred might be on the horizon. Hopefully he's not tied only to the BVS Batmobile (if there is such a thing). I'm glad there's been some Alfred love lately. Would definitely love to see Michael Caine's Alfred. He got a Movie Master figure way back when, so let's give him the Multiverse treatment too.

I got Digital Silver Age Joker today from BBTS.  I love this figure.  It looks so cool.  One of my favorite Joker figures ever, and I have a bunch.

Man, some more cool reveals/leaks there, but so many of them say Platinum.  I hate Platinum.  Todd has gone Platinum crazy.  All Platinum means to me is "great, I'm going to Ebay to spend between $50-$80 on a $25 figure"

But, oh well.

For some reason, Walmart seems to have cancelled my pre-order for the Snyderverse Darkseid with throne and the LOTR cardboard castle overnight. It's not a payment issue. It just says they had to cancel this previously delayed item. Maybe they took more orders than stock coming in? Did this happen to anyone else? It's actually probably for the best as I didn't really need either of these things. I was only getting Darkseid for the throne.

@stephenwdavis They canceled my Christopher Reeve order too! I immediately added them to cart and checked out again. Pre-order release date seems to have changed from 12/2 to 12/10.

@kryptonian I wonder what was going on. I pre-ordered both items the moment they became available back during their con. I'm glad that you were able to re-order CR Supes. Darkseid was sold out on both walmart.com and MTS. I really didn't care about the LOTR castle. Like I said, it's probably for the best anyway. I really only wanted the throne and have read that it was pretty cheap and flimsy.
