So, I've been kinda slowing down on my McF DC purchases lately, then The Question is released, but I can't find him in-store because only one of my local walmarts sells McF toys at all, and Todd decided to make him exclusively a Platinum, so I'm pretty much SOL there. Then he announces a Mr. Terrific but the proper version is Platinum and it's not even totally accurate. Then he finally makes a Legion character and he's a walmart collector con exclusive and sells out before I even wake up.

The recent leak list has a bunch of stuff I want for my collection, but I'm really starting to lean towards giving up on this line. It's just too frustrating and disheartening to try to collect without resorting to ebay flippers.

Right there with ya. I'm die-hard DC, and Todd has taken the fun out of this. Great business model, Todd! Purposefully deny willing customers product!

@kryptonian Thanks for the link. That was enlightening. I found it odd that they were kind of hyping up the fact that they don't produce very many of some figures so that they become scarce and then the prices go up on the secondary market. Like that's a positive thing. It's almost like bragging that you're helping the scalpers screw over your loyal customers. Gee thanks.

This struck me as well. The way they spoke about was really a slap in the face. They just…know they are making our lives harder? And they think that’s cool because the toys are rare and valuable on eBay?

Keeping your product out of the hands of your customers is such backwards logic.

Todd thinks it's cool and fun because he had to track down chase sports cards back in the day and it reminds him of that.  He doesn't HAVE to make these products hard to get, it's just his ego.  The DC toy license is in the hands of an egomaniac......that's unfortunate for the fans.

90s dudes never got over the hunt/chase mentality. I think they might be convinced that a strong secondary market bolsters a toyline or something like with the 90s comic book bubble, but I don't think that's true at all in 2024.

I've been saying for nearly a year now that after I walked away from buying any more Neca products last summer, things were going so well....that is until the day that McFarlane burst into my home and buried me in a metric ton of "fuck you."

Every so often I fantasize about the licenses to my favorite properties going to Jada Toys.  You're all triggering another one of those now 🙂

Wow, has it been a couple of expensive days! From DC Multiverse alone I've ordered 2 Lightning Lads, Darkseid with throne, Platinum Jonah Hex, Batman Beyond Batmobile, Mr Terrific, Simon Baz and Grid. I've also ordered ML Quicksilver, MOTU vintage Skeletor and Zodac and the LOTR castle. And pre-orders are supposed to go up for a new ML X-Men '97 Sentinel which I'll probably buy multiples of. What an expensive hobby! I even skipped most of the DC movie stuff!! I also received my ML Outriders, Spidervese wave and the Amazon DC Multiverse Shazam/Freddy 2-pack this week. My wallet needs a break!

It looks like 1978 Superman comes with 2 heads.  Is the one head supposed to be evil Superman?   If he does come with 2 heads, it's a shame one of them isn't smiling.

For those looking for him, Best Buy also has him: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/mcfarlane-toys-dc-multiverse-superman-the-movie-1978-7-figure-mcfarlane-collector-edition-25/6576251.p?skuId=6576251

@ashtalon here is a shot with the second head:

The BvS wave is up at BBTS (and other places, presumably). I ordered the Wonder Woman, but declined to pull the trigger on the rest. The Superman/Doomsday 2pk was tempting, but that Superman sculpt is so ugly...if it had been a new head, I'd have pounced on it. As it is, I don't want to pay $70 for that Doomsday and I already gave my blue Cavill JL Superman a wired cape and custom head. So that one was a pass.

Armored Batman doesn't look so hot, and the Knightmare looks like the Endless Winter Batman with some new parts (maybe it's just the same coat, but it looks cheap). None of these did it for me, so I'll keep my custom JL Blue Superman and pair him with this new WW and my Beast Kingdom Armored Batman (he's bigger and bulkier than a McF figure, but he will look more like man-in-suit with them) and call it a day on the BvS display.

Please note that I had to put it in quotes to keep WordPress from trying to post an image that wouldn't work and you couldn't see the link.

THIS!!! I'm really fed up with Todd, and at this point am only getting characters I find essential IF I run across them in store. I'm not going to eBay for these, and I've long given up on trying to complete any teams. The ridiculous, backwards thinking Todd and his cronies display has really soured me on his figures, to the point I won't be picking up any other properties he makes figures of either. I'm not going to be a hard-ass and refuse to buy a figure I really want, but I'm definitely to a point that I don't care about trying to track down anything. I don't find it "fun" at all. The fact I wasn't able to get a classic Wonder Woman, because I happened to be in a meeting when she went up for preorder, is beyond frustrating, and I absolutely refuse to pay scalper prices for a figure I KNOW isn't worth the price they are selling it for.

Honestly, I would love it for Todd to lose the license and it go to a company like Jada. Todd is an @$$, and I really hate that he gets any money from me at all.

What's funny is that I would consider the general McFarlane secondary market to be poor. Most figures barely sell for cost + shipping + fees on eBay. The scarce ones get inflated then eventually come down to semi-reasonable prices as they become available. Agent Liberty is a great example. If selling for $100+ on eBay was an indicator of demand, then it would have sold out instantly when it became available on MTS instead of lingering in stock for over a month. This is in stark contrast to my Marvel Legends which are almost all worth more now than when I bought them.

If they were smart they would flip the main version and the platinum. 90s blue Hawkman and New 52 Mr Terrific become more valuable than the main version if they are scarce...but probably pegwarm more than the classic versions as a standard release.

While I admit to sometimes doing the same...the past year has given us Batman & Robin, Batman Forever, several Batmobiles including a Beyond version, some new Nolan figures, Adam West and Reeve, plus some pretty iconic classic Batman characters. The Snyderverse figures are incredible in my opinion despite my disdain for the universe.

There is a lot of nonsense, and objectively, they can and should make their classic comic figures more readily available. But there are also a lot of cool releases that I'm not sure we'd get from another line. I did not think we'd be 5 years into a line and still waiting for a proper comic book Superman with double elbows and no wrist cuffs....but I didn't think we'd have a near full set of Schumacher film characters either. Trying to enjoy the good stuff and go stare at my DCUC when I long for the JSA.

Pre-order for Christopher Reeves' Superman figure at McFarlane Toy Store just worked for me (10-18-2024 at 3:25pm eastern).  Now it's sold out again, but might want to keep checking back if you want this figure.
