I was really late to the party but I finally went ahead and bought the 89 Batmobile. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to go in on the canopy upgrade as well.
Tempted to do what I can with the Batman (get a wired cape, get a Mezco head) but I'm not going to sink any money into it because Todd will do the Burton movie figures eventually and then this guy will go to ebay.
Speaking of: When Todd does do the Burton movies, how will the wave/waves break down? I would not be opposed to a very streamlined offering from both movies in one wave: Batman Batman, Batman Returns Batman, Catwoman, Joker, BAF Penguin. And get us a Max Shreck some how some way.
@yojoebro82 I imagine just like the Schumacher, Snyder, Reeves and Nolan waves, each movie will get its own respective lineup. So wave one will likely be Batman, Joker, (With a Jack Napier platinum release) Bob the Goon, Vicki Vale and finally Alfred. if there;s a BAF I could see it being someone like Elkhart.
Batman Returns will most likely be Batman, Catwoman, Penguin, Schreck and finally the giant penguin boat as a BAF vehicle? I could also see them releasing a bat ski-boat or a bat missile as separate vehicles. Likewise the batwing for 89
@stoopid_sandwich These are exactly the way I figured those waves would break down. Hope Penguin comes with some rocket toting penguins!
As an FYI, I ordered this case from Entertainment Earth and it did indeed have multiple platinums in it:
The actual case pack-out was 2X normal Dick Batman, 1X normal Batman/Superman Fusion, 1X platinum edition Batman/Superman Fusion, 1X platinum Edition Bullseye Batman, and 1X platinum edition Hugo Strange. I was hoping the second Batman would the blue variant but still glad to get the platinums.
In regards to the Burton Batman movies, something still tells me they may make Joker the BAF. It would be a silly move, as he's pretty much guaranteed money, but with the likeness rights for Nicholson apparently still being pretty crazy, I can imagine Todd might be looking for any loophole he can to save money. Of course, that could just boil down to re-using the sculpt however he can with different variants, but still. The Burton movies could easily be covered in one wave; I don't necessarily need a Vicki Vale personally, and in trying to think like Todd, something tells me he may think she won't sell. We already have a Gough Alfred coming. Assuming it's the typical 4 figure wave, I can see Batman, Catwoman, Penguin, and either Bob the Goon or Max Shreck, with a Joker BAF. I'd prefer Shreck, myself, but again, in trying to think like Todd, I can see him wanting to do Bob, but I don't necessarily foresee Bob or Shreck being popular enough to warrant being the BAF and folks feeling the need to complete it. Then again, I'd say the same for the Forever Nightmare Bat, but that happened. Bob could easily be thrown in to a 2 pack with another Joker variant too. I'd still love a Schumacher Bane somehow too, and wouldn't necessarily be against him as the BAF for a wave (even if a Schumacher figure would feel a little odd in a Burton wave).

I ordered the canopy, don't care about the guns and gas tank so much just wanted a sleeker tinted canopy that looks right. Plus it's not that expensive overall to be done with your ideal Batmobile look.
I think 89 will be its own line and Returns will be its own also. Though if I'm forced to choose between Shreck or Billy Dee Dent I'd rather they did Dent since he was in both films, and it'd be cool if they tossed in an alternate head from some of the trade dress they had in mind for TwoFace for the third film. Definitely need some rocket penguins. Catwoman would probably need a battle damaged Platinum Edition, and Penguin / the Joker could skate by with a couple different looks for reuse on the licensing money spent. I wouldn't be opposed to the Ice Princess and maybe the fat clown from the Red Triangle Gang if they're gonna do Bob the goon. Of course we'll need unmasked Keaton from the end of Returns along with Alfred and much like the Dark Knight films, we're gonna need a Commissioner Gordon for some folks. So Todd can probably get some decent change off both of these films.
McFarlane's store emailed me that the Batman Forever Batmobile with Alfred has shipped.
Gamesstop has it in stock right now as well.
I ordered one.
Billy Dee was only in the first Batman movie as Dent.
As far as the Burton movie wave, I would prefer no BAF. Give us Batman Returns suit since we got '89 twice. Nicholson Joker, Devito Penguin, and Pfeiffer Catwoman and call it a day. If we MUST have a BAF, give us a Pat Hingle Commissioner Gordon as a BAF.
I doubt we get an 89 wave tbh; Returns is easy and could see it being a Batman, Penguin, Catwoman and Shreck with maybe the Strongman as a BAF? I'd also say we could get a Skull Biker with bike also if they wanted to go that route.
89, IF it comes would most likely be a case of Batman and a few Jokers (mime look, standard too). If anyone thinks we're getting a Vale, Bob or anyone like that, man you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
Vale, no way. Bob, maybe. It would be cool if Todd did the same as the new Green Lanterns and give a few Goon heads with one Goon buck; Bob, boom box goon, swords goon. Guaranteed multiple sales.
The Returns suit should definitely get made but you're going to see the 89 suit as a single release at least once. In a perfect world Todd goes back to the drawing board on this. I understand the difficulty for toy companies on this. They WANT to give head articulation, but you just can't do that AND be accurate at the same time. Keaton couldn't move his head. So the head/neck/cowl all need to be one piece. Ideally there wouldn't even be an ab crunch, just a ball joint at the waist, but I'm not expecting that level of retooling. Worst case scenario they do nothing new with the sculpt, but at least give us a wired cape and a few bat accessories. I've got the Adam West and Christian Bale with wired capes and for me they are giving the figures a whole new life. I need all six Batmen to have them!
I would love to see a Bob the Goon figure for an '89 Batman wave and a Bruce Wayne action figure like this for a Batman Returns wave.
Honestly, Gordon in nearly every film before Batman Begins felt so inconsequential. It wasn't too terrible in the Burton films- he was at least there and had a decent enough presence, but in the Schumacher films you could've taken him out completely and not really changed a thing. If we were only to ever get one Gordon from Todd, I'd prefer it be Oldman.
I kinda feel the same about Billy Dee as Harvey Dent- he never got to really live out the role and do the fun stuff as Two Face. I suppose it's always possible that Todd gets the license to the ongoing 89 comic series as well; I'd take a Billy Dee Two Face, and it would be great to get Harley and Scarecrow from the latest series; I especially like the Scarecrow design (no surprise there), and it would be neat to finally get that Marlan Wayans Robin figure too. Even though they're clearly based off some big names- (Madonna as Harley, Jeff Goldblum as Crane, Martin Short as the Riddler, etc.), maybe that comic loophole that allowed him to release Yvonne Craig's Batgirl would still apply here?
