I bought the regular versions of Blue Superman, Aquaman and Batman all at Gamestop when I first saw them. I had them on pre-order from BBTS, but found them in the wild first. I then was able to get John Stewart off of Amazon before BBTS got him in but got 3 consecutive Platinums of him (all that I sold for $40 each) before I finally got the regular version. I have never seen the red Superman, but kind of want him, but not enough to pay more than retail for him. I remember hating the Blue/Red Supermen when Mattel made them years ago in the DCUC line but they've grown on me over time.
DC Infinite Hour guys had a conversation with McFarlane Toys Director of Brand Creative, Brian Walters. He manages the DC line along with the rest of their brands. His team makes the decisions on which characters will be made, who should be a Collector Edition/Gold Label/Platinum. For sure Todd has input & final say, but it's more than likely Todd's not sitting in his office all day hand picking characters & making details on minute character detail decisions that seem to draw ire. Understandable most just point at Todd, since his name is the company name.
They talked about Platinums briefly & how they seem to want to restart the toy hunts, get customers into stores to find these. They also discussed if the overall quantities have decreased which they say have been adjusted, but you should be able to find what you're looking for at retail. I'm still seeing mostly empty shelves, so either everyone is buying everything up or distribution is severely deficient.

I suspect sell-through has gone up even on some larger orders after several waves of quick online sellouts. FOMO was planted and sown.
@therealsmallville While I understand the sentiment - I can't connect with it personally. I absolutely love the breadth of the fictional universes I embrace, and while every character in them isn't my favorite character - I do get joy from seeing them on my shelf. The idea that I have Timber Wolf and Killer Moth and Giganta and RobotMan in my DCUC display makes me very happy. Seeing Nepthu and Lodar and Karatti on my MOTUC shelf brings me joy.
But then again I was a kid who could spend hours reading volumes of the encyclopedia and re-read my issues of Marvel Universe and Who's Who countless times. So the breadth of the display is super important to me, even if I don't care about every character as much as the next. It's why I get annoyed when Marvel Legends releases a wave of just another Iron Man, another Captain America, another Spider-Man and another Wolverine. I have all those dudes in almost every variation you can offer so those interest me far less.
It's why 75% of McFarlane Toys output bores me to tears because it's the same dudes over and over and over and over again.
The bolded part is the most important bit of every hobby we get involved in. BRAVO, sir, truly...it feels like so many people I see online talk about this stuff out of an obligation, or an addiction, or the old "filling a hole in their lives" thing (this was me, for a long time, with some OCD mixed in)...it is truly extraordinary to see someone just say "you know what? This stuff brings me joy." Well done, that's exactly what it should all be about.

I snagged a Platinum Grayson Bats at the Walmart I work at this afternoon once I was done for the day. They also had the regular version, Manga Batman and a vamp Shazam.
The Target nearby had Platinum Capt Boomerang and Penguin.

I found Platinum Grayson today at my Walmart as well. The same morning my PoL from BBTS shipped, containing the regular Grayson because I didn't think I'd actually come across the Platinum lol Ah, well. I can probably sell the regular one.
I also came across the new Batman '66, I wasn't expecting that. For a guy who has been talking up being picky with McFarlane's, I sure have picked up quite a few lately. Cool finds, though.
